Mythrol, The - TVC - Basic (VC225)

The release of The Mythrol in The Vintage Collection irritates us as much as it exhilarates us. And there are many reasons for each feeling. An obscure character like The Mythrol is best done in the 3.75-inch line. We won’t argue with that. It’s a world-building line, and there’s plenty of room for background characters and all of the other “blink, and you’ll miss it” aliens that populate the Star Wars universe. We’re thrilled to see that the current Star Wars team is willing to take a risk on a character like The Mythrol, especially since the character appears in only a couple of episodes in The Mandalorian. Hasbro loaded it up with excellent accessories to help make the action figure a little more interesting. And while we strongly feel that they approached the deco of the face incorrectly, the final figure looks excellent, and fans of The Mandalorian are likely going to be thrilled with the final results. In case you’re not aware, The Mythrol is the name of the sentient humanoid species with amphibious traits and not a proper name of the character. So, we don’t know this action figure’s real name (yet). Once again, The Mythrol is a well-designed action figure, but it’s a bit of a conundrum as well. It feels more like a character from The X-Files than Star Wars. Regardless, did we need this character before so many others?

With characters like Imperial Dignitary Sim Aloo, The Bad Batch, EV-9D9, all the clone commanders, and Jabba’s palace aliens, or Chalmun’s cantina patrons, it seems that the release of The Mythrol is not appropriate. But since The Mandalorian is a new area of new Star Wars Entertainment, Hasbro likely believed they had no other choice. They either needed to do the character now or never, especially with the Razor Crest around the corner. If you enjoy The Mandalorian and you’re excited about The Mythrol, that’s great. But we think it’s an unnecessary character at this point in the line. That said, the action figure is another excellent accomplishment in The Vintage Collection, although we don’t believe it’s free of issues. Firstly, the deco sed for the head is just wrong. The character doesn’t have a vac-metalized head. Yes, it’s an amphibious-like head, but the character doesn’t look metallic in any way. It seems as if Hasbro looked to add the “second best” type of metallic paint on this action figure, and the final result looks off. The Mythrol has a light blue skin color if you look at reference materials. Hasbro could have done with this effect with the shimmery and metallic texture. The rest of the figure is panted lovely and looks excellent.

Hasbro gave collectors four accessories to The Mythrol. First up is a blaster pistol. It fits perfectly in the figure’s left hand. The trigger finger is in position, ready to shoot the weapon. You also get a pair of binders (or shackles). And Hasbro designed them to fit The Mythrol’s hands beautifully. They fit like a glove, and that’s about as secure as you want them. Hasbro also included a blowtorch. It’s a detailed accessory, and The Mythrol holds it well in its right hand. He uses a tool while in servitude for his crimes in The Mandalorian. The last accessory is a holographic image of The Mythrol. We’ve seen stills of this character in this form, but we’re not sure what it’s officially called in the series. The miniature accessory is quite detailed for its size, and it helps make this action figure unique from so many others released in The Vintage Collection line. We won’t criticize Hasbro for choosing to bring The Mythrol into the lineup. It’s not one of our favorites by a long shot, but we’re sure there are plenty of collectors out there who are equally excited for this character’s release. It’s also nice to have a figure in The Vintage Collection that isn’t in The Black Series 6-inch. Goodness, gracious, are the tides turning or what?
