A reprogrammed Imperial security droid now loyal to the Alliance, K-2SO is an alarming sight standing within a secret Rebel base. The pragmatic droid is an effective insertion agent, as he can blend in perfectly at Imperial installations and outposts.

Here we go again! Hasbro is taking the opportunity to release an entire collection of action figures from a single Star Wars source and release them through the Fan Channel with deco updates and new packaging, along with the brand new figure of a character they negligently omitted previously. We’re, of course, talking about the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story lineup. All of the previously released characters from The Black Series [Phase III] line are now all repainted with better paint operations that reflect screen accuracy, along with Bodhi Rook, the lone all-new figure in the collection. If you recall, Hasbro did the same thing for the Star Wars Rebels characters and released Zeb as the new figure of the group. We like this way of thinking, and it gives Hasbro a chance to correct the dreadful facial operations these figures had pre-Photo Real. And while many of the figures in the Rogue One collection were terrible peg-warmers, it’s still nice to see these characters again in The Black Series [Phase IV] line with refreshed “everything.” Supply chain issues are wreaking havoc on how these figures are arriving to collectors, but we’re getting them in dribs and drabs, which is working out fine.

If you can think back to 2016, you may remember that the original version of K-2SO came in two versions. The first version had white photoreceptors, and then the running change variant came with white photoreceptors with red pupils. For the “third” release of K-2SO, Hasbro reverted to the original version of the character. We’re not so sure why they decided to do this again. Still, there are significant updates throughout the rest of the figure, mistakes they wanted to fix with a “premium” version of the character in action figure form. We have to admit that the paint operations on this latest version are the best. Also, it’s worth noting that we see the red pupils clearly on the character in the film and reference stills. Perhaps on this action figure, it’s not that big of a deal. Whatever your position on this, there is no way you can deny the improvements Hasbro made to the figure’s deco. The orange lines around the extremities are bold and bright, and you’ll see all-new battle damage and wear, just as we see in the film. Hasbro did an excellent job here. You’ll want to replace your other version or version with this one.

Check out the fine lines of color that beautifully frame K-2SO’s controls, buttons, and gears. Look at how Hasbro carefully placed the “insignia” and how they added personality without overshadowing the integrity of the sculpt. Look at how the joints bend and allow the collector to situate the droid in various poses. These and more are all things that we should expect from all of the action figures Hasbro produces for us. We’re particularly fond of how they attached this droid’s head too. They’ve crafted an inverted ball-socket joint for the neck and a typical ball-socket joint for the head. But the range of movement you get from this “double” ball-socket articulation is pretty impressive. Because of the droid’s natural design, Hasbro needed to work in hinge-jointed and swivel articulation to many of the droid’s areas, but they’re all aesthetically accurate anyhow. K-2SO is gigantic and towers over most other action figures in The Black Series 6” line. And Hasbro worked in an incredible 26 points of articulation. K-2SO is a beautiful 6-inch action figure. It’s quickly become one of our favorite characters based on Rogue One so far. And K-2SO is a favorite of many other fans as well.
