Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasfilm with figures inspired by the original Star Wars trilogy!

Hasbro decided to release three characters from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope in replica The Power Of The Force “2” packaging to celebrate the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary. And in our opinion, they picked three of the worst characters possible to choose for this exclusive packaging. Let’s face it. Greedo, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker never turned out well in the 6-inch scale. In some strange twist of cruel fate, we’re seeing them once again, placed in ugly packaging and with an increased MSRP. And it seems the collecting community is amenable to all of it. Han Solo finally gets a Photo Real update. Based on 2013’s TBS [P1] Han Solo (#08), Hasbro gave the figure slightly different coloring throughout and exclusives two removable hand attachments, probably for a cost-saving goal. For us, Han Solo feels “meh,” and we’re not sure if too many other 6-inch collectors will be jumping for joy to add this figure into their collections. Other than the Photo Real “upgrade” and new packaging, Han Solo is nearly identical to previous releases, of which there are many now.

Based on his appearance in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Han Solo was one of the standout 6-inch figures in the original run of The Black Series [Phase I] line. The tooling is approaching a decade in age, and it’s beginning to look tired. Hasbro brought the 6-inch line with the latest technology so far, but they took many steps back, deciding to re-release these figures. There is some wonkiness to Han Solo. The likeness is not perfect, and we attribute it to the fact that Hasbro didn’t have a firm grip on human likenesses back then. Thankfully, they’ve mostly perfected this aspect of the line over time. They’ve already retooled Princess Leia Organa’s portrait; maybe they’ll update other head sculpts in the future, and hopefully this one too. Besides, this action figure is a fine plastic interpretation of the onscreen character. For the first time, you’ll be able to attain poses that you never thought would be possible, thanks to the accelerated articulated and intriguing joint system he possesses. The joints move a little better with this version, so that’s a plus as well.

Han Solo comes with 28 points of articulation. The figure comes with a removable holster, an interchangeable Stormtrooper belt, an E-11 blaster rifle, a blaster pistol, and a removable vest. The two interchangeable hand attachments that came with previous versions are absent here, and that’s fine by us. To replicate the 1995 The Power Of The Force “2” Han Solo figure, they needed to do whatever they could to match that likeness. We suppose they included the Stormtrooper belt for a little additional play value. Who knows? All of the accessories interact nicely with Han Solo. Han Solo is lean and athletic and has a slightly cocky expression on its face. The Photo Real brings these details out as well. The Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary “The Power Of The Force “2”-themed” packaging is unattractive to us. Others disagree. Regardless, Hasbro felt it would tug on the heartstrings of collectors to pay homage to the era of superhero-esque action figures with glaring red or green packaging. Whatever your feelings are on these releases, there available to purchase for your collection.
