Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasflm with figures inspired by Star Wars: The Clone Wars!

Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are two of the best choices for The Black Series [Lucasfilm 50] line based on The Clone Wars animated series. Of course, for these releases, Hasbro created the action figures in a realistic interpretation. Hasbro released 27 action figures in the “blue” phase of 2008’s/2009’s The Clone Wars line. It’s a shame that Hasbro didn’t create Ahsoka Tano from this line in a realistic style, complete with little Rotta the Hutt. But hopefully, that figure will come soon enough in the mainline. Collectors might have lost their collective poo if Hasbro relegated a popular figure like that to a store exclusive. The dynamic duo of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Clone Wars-inspired The Black Series 6-inch line are two of the best figures Hasbro produced in this format to date. They encapsulate the many episodes of the popular and beloved television show. And chronologically, they’re No. 1 and No. 2 in the sequential lineup of the original Hasbro The Clone Wars line. They’re perfect in every way to commemorate this remarkable and original toy line.

Anakin Skywalker finally gets a 6-inch counterpart to the hugely successful 2012 TVC Anakin Skywalker (VC92) figure. And it’s lovely to see how far they brought the sculpt with today’s technology. From what we can tell, Anakin Skywalker is a mostly all-new figure, but it does use a few parts from previous Anakin Skywalker action figures. Whatever Hasbro did, they made all the parts look brand-spanking-new, thanks to a clever combination of parts and paint operations that bring everything together. There is a new layer of molded goods to complete the outfit in the upper body, and they added both a molded outer skirt and a fabric inner skirt to create a layered effect in the figure’s costume. The paint operations throughout the figure are excellent, and Hasbro incorporated Photo Real deco in the all-new head sculpt. The final results are fantastic. As you’d expect, Anakin Skywalker has an excellently functioning articulation system and can attain many poses as desired. Hasbro developed this action figure with great care, and it’s nice to see the final result pay off.

Anakin Skywalker comes with a lightsaber that breaks down into hilt and blade. A port along the belt also stows the hilt when not in use. Anakin Skywalker looks amazing, swinging and wielding the lightsaber. It would have been wonderful if Hasbro added additional accessories with this figure, but they kept things simple and probably contained costs for all the new tooling. Packaged in replica packaging of Hasbro’s 2008 and 2008 The Clone Wars line, Anakin Skywalker is placed in front of a Phase I Clone Trooper helmet image, and the bubble is curved for a sleek contemporary design. The Lucasfilm 50 logo is on the front of the packaging, but Hasbro also incorporated the original insert graphics of the animated character on the front bubble section. On the back, you’ll find reference text commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm LTD. But that’s about it. They don’t talk much about the influence of The Clone Wars on the Hasbro Star Wars toy line, which was powerful and influential at its release. Anakin Skywalker is a Target exclusive with an MSRP set at a whopping $24.99.
