The Star Wars Retro Collection is inspired by the 1980s STAR WARS figures and features original figure design and detailing! Continue your collection from the galaxy far, far away!

Many fans of The Mandalorian wanted to know why Jon Favreau added an all-new character like IG-11 to The Mandalorian Disney+ series when we already have an incredible IG-Assassin Droid part of the canon: IG-88. Favreau admitted his love for IG-88 from The Empire Strikes Back, but the directive for The Mandalorian series was to introduce all-new characters whenever possible to the storyline. Favreau and company decided that bounty hunter IG-11 would be an all-new character. More troubling, however, is Hasbro’s complete lack of respect for the character in a 3.75-inch super-articulated scale. After a long period of complaining and whining, Hasbro finally announced IG-11 for The Vintage Collection. But sometimes too little comes too late. The first 3.75-inch version collectors can purchase is IG-11 from the Retro Collection. While collectors appreciate the gesture, it’s a bit underwhelming to get an expensive novelty action figure before the screen-accurate version. But, that seems to be the way that Hasbro works. Interestingly, it looks like we have a first glimpse of what The Vintage Collection card art will look like for IG-11, as all other characters share the same cart art with their TVC counterparts. Hasbro closely modeled IG-11 after 1980’s ESB IG-88 (Bounty Hunter) action figure. But since the characters aren’t identical to each other, you’ll find a lot of differences too. IG-11 wears a double bandolier that crosses over the front and back of the figure. Also, IG-11’s color is more bronze, whereas IG-88’s coloring is more silver and gray. Coincidentally, IG-11 comes with the same weaponry as IG-88 (Bounty Hunter), but Hasbro cast the blasters in black instead of blue for this release. IG-11 is an excellent addition to the Retro Collection, but it feels like the cart is before the horse regarding The Mandalorian toy line. Hopefully, Hasbro will play catch-up long enough in the line to finally, well, catch themselves up.
