Celebrate the legacy of Star Wars, the action-and-adventure-packed space saga from a galaxy far, far away, with this collection of premium, highly-detailed 3.75-inch scale figures and vehicles. (Each sold sepaartely. Subject to availability.)

Many longtime Star Wars fans found favor with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film takes viewers right up to the opening crawl of A New Hope, so it has strong Original Trilogy ties and elements. These things helped us appreciate the film more than say the ones part of the Sequel Trilogy on a different part of the Star Wars timeline. The whole cast of Rogue One was excellent, but some characters stood out and interested fans more than others. One character that gripped everyone’s attention in Rogue One was K-2SO. The extremely tall protocol droid started life as part of the Galactic Empire. But then the droid was reprogrammed and assisted Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor in their quest to steal the plans to the dreaded Death Star. Agents of the blossoming Rebellion, the duo end up as the protagonists of the film and reach an untimely end. May the Force be with them. After Hasbro gave up on the 3.75” super-articulated line in 2015, they focused most of their all-new action figures in the infamous 5POA lineup. For the 2016 Rogue One line, K-2SO was one of the first figures produced. For a figure that came with simple articulation, Hasbro made an admirable effort with it. The 5POA RO K-2SO figure impressed us despite its limitations. Instead of one-plane swivel articulation, Hasbro worked in ball-socket articulation to the older K-2SO action figure, but collectors didn’t seem to care.

Aesthetically, this simple design is mostly how this character functions, but getting a super-articulated version is what collectors wanted to see. Because the range of motion the articulation offers the Rogue One K-2SO figure, collectors wanted to see what Hasbro could do with the character is they released a version of the droid in The Vintage Collection. Anyone knows K-2SO needs elbow and knee articulation, and the only figure at that time that had it was The Black Series 6” figure. Now 3.75” collectors needn’t fret any longer because The Vintage Collection version is now available! We like the figure, but we wanted to love it. And unfortunately, we don’t love it. We’ll explain. K-2SO comes with upgraded articulation in the head that includes a ball-socket head, and a reverse ball-socket neck. This approach allows you to make the figure look down and around as well as turn the head. The amount of movement here, just in the head sculpt, is staggering. We’re thankful that Hasbro threw collectors a small bone here. On top of decent articulation, Hasbro tooled an impressive sculpt. This figure looks exactly like the on-screen K-2SO character. The ridges, lines, shapes, and detail is beyond impressive. The paint operations are overall quite lovely, but we think Hasbro could apply them with a little more precision. We feel K-2SO looks a bit too dark, and Hasbro ignored the red irises in the eyes for the TVC release, but overall, collectors will likely appreciate Hasbro did for the figure’s deco.

K-2SO has an excellent center of gravity and can stand unassisted. The figure can stand in action poses well, and that makes us happy collectors. Interestingly, The Black Series [Phase III] K-2SO (24) 6” figure didn’t come with any weapons. That had to have been a mistake. But The Vintage Collection version does, a blaster pistol. Hasbro tooled both of K-2SO’s hands to accommodate the blaster pistol as needed. You’re going to like posing the figure holding the gun! So, with so much positivity, what could be wrong with K-2SO? Well, the plastic used is too pliable. And to make matters worse, K-2SO comes with very, very tight joints. We usually appreciate incredibly tight joints. But Hasbro cast the figure in soft plastic, and it feels like you’re going to break the figure at EVERY joint. Some have advised using hot water to soften the joints a bit. And others suggested pressing inward/into the figure while articulating the ball-jointed articulation points. Some points are so stubborn that they bend instead of articulating. And you know that too much pressure in the wrong direction could result in breakage. We imagine that over time K-2SO’s joints will because more mobile. Still, it’s unfortunate that Hasbro had to use soft plastic because a more rigid or sturdier plastic would have ultimately remedied this. We’re happy to see a super-articulated K-2SO. The figure has 28 fantastic points of articulation, and for that we’re thankful. We hope we see more action figures from Rogue One, and we’d love to see a TVC U-Wing. Just please make the figures more sturdy. Thank you!
