The wampa ice creature is a horrible, carnivorous beast that roams the frozen wastelands of the planet Hoth. Standing more than two-meters tall, the bi-pedal wampa has yellow eyes and very sharp claws and teeth. Because of its white fur, the wampa is naturally camouflaged, which makes it easy to take its prey by surprise. Wampas do not hunt when they are hungry, but save their living prey in ice caves for later consumption.
These fearless beasts carve lairs out of the ice forming huge caves in which to nest. Luke Skywalker, while patrolling the snow-packed tundra of Hoth, narrowly escaped the wampa by severing its arm with his lightsaber.
Authentically styled straight from The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker features his highly detailed uniform complete with lightsaber, removable holster, Rebel blaster and comlink. Also includes wampa ice creature. This special edition set, available for the first time ever, is destined to become a classic collectible.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
When Kenner/Hasbro announced that the Luke Skywalker Vs. Wampa Collector Series set was going to be a TARGET exclusive, the collecting community panicked. In 1997, TARGET was in its infancy when it came to how many locations existed per state. In New Jersey, there were only three TARGET stores when this set was released. And each store received a limited allotment, somewhere around a dozen units. Obviously, collectors were deflated, angry, and quite upset that the Luke Skywalker Vs. Wampa didn’t come close to meeting demands. Thankfully, over time, Kenner/Hasbro produced additional runs of this set, and more units made their way to stores. It remained elusive on store shelves for the next year, but demand slowly but surely got filled because of the additional units produced. Luke Skywalker comes with a nicely designed outfit that faithfully captures the on-screen costume well. But the buck underneath the outfit has aged and needs to be retired. Luke Skywalker (In Hoth Gear) comes with a lightsaber hilt and blade, blaster pistol and macrobinoculars, and multiple layers of clothing, including a scarf. The Wampa, despite its inaccuracies, is charming and universally adored by the Star Wars collecting community. Essentially a plush furball that keeps its shape by way of bendable wires underneath, the Wampa is a great-looking Collector Series figure. Too small and a bit too plump, the Wampa has great things going for it, including a stunning face sculpt and alarmingly large hands and feet. Kenner/Hasbro did a great job on both figures, plus or minus a couple of problems. The set came with an MSRP of $44.99.
