Celebrate the legendary Star Wars trilogy that changed the universe forever, with The Original Trilogy Collection. This collection brings to life the incredible story of good versus evil that captured our imagination and took us to a galaxy far, far away. The finest recreations of the iconic Star Wars heroes and villains are back with incredible detail and premium features to commemorate each epic tale in the original trilogy: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. And, as a tribute to the dedication of Star Wars fans everywhere, we are re-releasing elements of the original packaging that harken back to the creation of Star Wars action figures, which began over 25 years ago with the original trilogy.

Hasbro may never be able to explain their choices for The “Vintage” Original Trilogy Collection Large Size Action Figures line. They didn’t choose poorly, but some turned out better than others. Although significantly updated, Luke Skywalker and Stormtrooper didn’t fully meet collectors’ expectations. Whether it was deco issues or ill-fitted armor, it felt like Hasbro needed to tweak the figures’ features a little bit more before anyone would consider them definitive. There was one exception, however. Boba Fett. The Boba Fett Large Size Action Figure was a figure that exceeded collectors’ expectations. And it has an interesting evolution too. Previous versions of Boba Fett 12 Inch Figures came with poor articulation, ill-fitted costuming, and helmets were much too small. But it feels like Hasbro got everything right with The “Vintage” Original Trilogy Collection Boba Fett Large Size Action Figure. With a relatively new and updated buck, Boba Fett has an athletic frame. Hasbro ensured they sewed a fitted jumpsuit to maintain the integrity of the figure’s streamlined appearance. They also added a molded torso with armor that fits over the jumpsuit, and it pulls everything together. Keeping Boba Fett from looking bulky is key to making a great Boba Fett figure, and we feel strongly that Hasbro did everything possible here to develop the best Boba Fett figure in this scale the line has ever seen.

Originally, Boba Fett was previewed with a dark blue jumpsuit underneath the armored parts. Worried, Hasbro assured collectors that the final outfit would be more mint green or tan as reflected in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Interestingly, the dark blue jumpsuit version DID arrive to retail, but only to Kmart. To date, no other store reports confirm another retailer received this version. Soon after, the update gray/green and corrected version arrived at other retailers, and collectors were pleased to see the screen-accurate version of this figure finally arrive at brick and mortar. A little known other variation exists too. Some collectors found Boba Fett with a light tan jumpsuit. But this version is tough to find. It’s quite a rarity. The Boba Fett figure comes with an articulated rangefinder, a first for this character in the 12 Inch Figures range. Unfortunately, the material used to design it is cast from a weak plastic, and it doesn’t keep its shape. It’s disappointing to see this part of the figure not have the rigidity it needs to combat gravity and be more functional, but it is what it is. Perhaps a future version will address this issue a little bit better. For the first time, it feels like Hasbro mastered the helmet shape and size of Boba Fett beautifully. What’s more, the paint deco on it is done beautifully too. There’s a lot of battle-damage, and Hasbro recreated it perfectly.

As mentioned, the pocketed jumpsuit is perfectly designed. Hasbro included three tools found in the shin pockets. They are accurately tooled and match the props worked into the costume from the film. You’ll find a host of other ornamentations added to Boba Fett’s outfit too. Hasbro added multiple Wookiee scalp braids on the figure’s right shoulder. They also painstakingly added the insignia found on his chest and shoulder armor too. The gauntlets are highly-detailed and come with articulation for maximum posing. And then the knee armor completed the main outfit wonderfully. One of Boba Fett’s biggest features is his jetpack. Hasbro designed an accurate one for this figure. But it doesn’t come with any features like a removable or firing rocket or projectile. It’s one piece with a lot of detail and nicely painted applications. Lastly, Hasbro added Boba Fett’s infamous sawed-off blaster rifle, although, this blaster is part of his ensemble for Return Of The Jedi, and not The Empire Strikes Back. Hasbro has messed this up often for years. It’s time to get this straight once and for all. Overall, Boba Fett is the greatest release of The “Vintage” Original Trilogy Collection Large Size Action Figures line by far. We would have loved to see them update Darth Vader in this scale too, but that wasn’t part of the plan. The best part of Boba Fett, however, is the recreated vintage Kenner packaging. It’s BEAUTIFUL.
