On his homeworld of Mon Calamari, Ackbar was content with leading the citizens of Coral City. It was a peaceful system until Imperial ships invaded and took the Mon Calamari as slaves. Ackbar was one of the first to be enslaved by the Empire, and presented as a gift to Grand Moff Tarkin.
As he served as Grand Moff Tarkin's personal servant, Ackbar was able to learn much about the Empire and its military, as well as the Rebellion. While en route to the Death Star, Grand Moff Tarkin's ship was attacked by the Alliance. The Rebels escaped with Ackbar, and he then pledged his aid and alliance to the case of the Rebellion.
He returned to his home of Mon Calamari where he convinced his people to support the Rebellion. They immediately began designing ships and weapons for the Alliance. Ackbar was made a commander in the Alliance when, along with another alien species, he designed an answer to the Imperial Nebulon-B frigate. The result was the B-wing starfighter!
Ackbar was then promoted to the title of Admiral by the leader of the Alliance, Mon Mothma, and became one of her two top advisors. The master tactician also carries the responsibility of Commander of the Rebel fleet. He prefers to personally lead important assaults and was in command aboard his flagship during the Battle of Endor.
Authentically styled straight from Return of the Jedi, Admiral Ackbar comes outfitted in his jumpsuit, belt and rank badge. This special edition 12" figure, available for the first time ever, is destined to become a classic collectible.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
If you were collecting the modern Kenner/Hasbro Star Wars line for the first three years (1995-1997), you probably remember getting overwhelmed with every new figure announcement in both the 3.75” and 12” scales. When it came to Hasbro’s Collector Series line, they started proving to the collector-base that they were going to push boundaries they nary entered in the classic vintage Kenner line. 1997 was one of the highlights of the Collector Series line, and Hasbro began expanding the character selection broader and wider to include characters from Return Of The Jedi, most notably, Admiral Ackbar. Hasbro had to design quite a few extra parts to complete the Admiral Ackbar Collector Series figure. Both arms needed new forearms and hands, and then Kenner/Hasbro also had to design an all-new portrait with clear eyes and a mottled pattern on the shell. With a fuzzy shell including his signature ranking badge and a white jumpsuit with yellow blood stripe, Admiral Ackbar entered the Collector Series line as one of its finest additions. The shell color is a bit too dark, but the figure has a wonderful likeness to the onscreen character. Admiral Ackbar came without any accessories. It would have been incredible if they tooled a replica of the staff that came with the 1983 Kenner figure.
