The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.

Ooh! We’re telling! Disney forgot to refer to the new Kylo Ren Star Wars Toybox figure as “Supreme Leader” Kylo Ren. Come on, Disney. You have to give credit and authority where and when they’re due! In all seriousness, the latest Kylo Ren Star Wars Toybox figure didn't deviate all that much from the first release a couple of years ago, but there is enough newness to warrant an all-new sculpt. The Star Wars Toybox line is as cookie-cutter as Hasbro’s The Black Series 6” line. The articulation system barely deviates from one figure to the next. Because of Kylo Ren’s battle-damaged helmet, it necessitated a new head sculpt, and the slight differences in the Episode IX comment allowed Disney to take liberties and produce a new figure for the line that turned out better than the first release. This animated line was unique until Hasbro’s revitalized Galaxy Of Adventures 5” line came into existence. But they each still possess unique characteristics, and we hope it doesn’t inhibit full appreciation of each line. Admittedly the lines are quite similar, but the exaggerated traits of the two lines are different.

We wondered this from the beginning, but now we know that Hasbro has been inspired by Disney’s Star Wars Toybox line. We’ll have to wait and see if the lines conflict with each other or not. Disney entered the competition with the 5” line years before Hasbro showed interest in it. The Star Wars Toybox line features super-articulated action figures (smaller than the popular 6” scale), and they’ve done a fantastic job only a couple of years into the line. Kylo Ren doesn’t bring much to the table when compared to its original release, but there is also enough newness here to warrant a purchase. Kylo Ren comes with an astounding 27 points of articulation. This total articulation is more than most The Vintage Collection figures. With a wealth of premium ball-jointed articulation (including a ball-jointed head), Kylo Ren can be posed in a variety of positions that most collectors desire to see with their action figures. The sculpt of Kylo Ren is beautiful and had it come without any articulation; it would still be desirable, as ironic as that sounds. Disney developed a fantastic line here, but we hope they develop it with a little more risk involved.

But adding 27 incredible points to this beautiful sculpt has just completely blown us away. Imagine if this figure was made in a realistic style? Disney may have had the hit of the year on their hands. Let’s hope that a realistically-styled line in this scale is in the cards one day. It would provide greater competition with Hasbro, and perhaps inspire them to up their game more. Unlike the first version, Kylo Ren doesn’t come with a hood. The hood is hanging down his back this time. The cloak isn’t removable either. The lightsaber has also been tooled in an animated style, as well. Kylo Ren holds the accessory well in his right hand. But the left hand has his fingers outstretched in a Force-conjuring way. Disney tooled lower plastic robes for Kylo Ren, but he can still achieve a vast array of movement thanks to the clever cuts Disney made in the tooling to allow his legs free movement as needed. We’re still excited about what’s next in this exciting action figure line from Disney. They seem to be skipping over characters that would make fine additions. They should think a little more outside of the box for this line.
