Darth Maul is a pure manifestation of the dark side of the Force. Ordered by Darth Sidious to destroy the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Maul uses his personal repulsorlift vehicle – the Sith speeder – to carry out his sinister mission. The speeder supports a deployment system capable of launching a seeker droid known as the Sith probe droid. This droid maintains ultra receptive sensor arrays capable of tracking down practically anything. Swift and focused, Darth Maul speeds over the desert sands of Tatooine in search of his Jedi prey; meanwhile, the welfare of the galaxy hangs in the balance.

It might be said that the Episode I Sith Speeder And Darth Maul vehicle set is the most-anticipated release in the whole line. Getting Episode I’s villain paired with a vehicle he uses for a sudden attack is a hit-it-out-of-the-ballpark favorite item. And on Midnight Madness is sold out immediately. Hasbro designed the Sith Speeder And Darth Maul set in a way that will appeal to both kids and collectors. Hasbro tooled the vehicle faithfully to the on-screen prop, and the included pack-in Darth Maul action figure is unlike any other Darth Maul figure in the Episode I line. He sits, he’s wearing a soft-goods cloak, and he’s engineered to seamlessly interact with the included vehicle, including holding onto the handlebars and while also being able to wield a double-bladed lightsaber. The Sith Speeder And Darth Maul two-pack is also admirably priced. For just a little over $10, you get an all-new Darth Maul action figure and a vehicle. You could do worse. We’re certain that the Sith Speeder will hold up well throughout the years. And right out of the gate it appears that Hasbro did a nearly-perfect job matching the color to the vehicle seen in The Phantom Menace. The paint operations are clean, and the details of the speeder are quite stunning and impressive. We feel Hasbro did an excellent job on it and it’s nicely tooled and beautifully painted too. Let’s take a closer look at everything.

As mentioned, the Episode I Sith Speeder And Darth Maul Deluxe set sold incredibly well upon its release. For us, the selling point is the fantastic Darth Maul action figure because he looks remarkable piloting the vehicle. It’s a treat to get a figure of this Sith Lord that is functional. All of the other Darth Maul action figures are incredibly limited with what they can do. It’s incredible how natural Darth Maul looks riding the Sith Speeder. Darth Maul comes with a relatively excellent paint job, but his face looks too dark in places. Still, overall, we’re very pleased with how he turned out. Darth Maul comes with a wide stance, but that’s all for the Sith Speeder. He needs to straddle believably, and to accomplish; they needed to give his legs a wider spread. His soft-goods cloak is woven from premium material, and it possesses a nice drape. Darth Maul wears it well. He also comes with a double-bladed lightsaber. Darth Maul comes with a decent amount of articulation so he can hold the lightsaber in multiple poses, which is always nice to see. Darth Maul’s hinge-jointed knees are solely for the Sith Speeder too, but they also assist the figure in achieving additional action-oriented poses in your collection. The figure offers a tad more versatility than the typical Darth Maul figures released in the basic figure line. We think you’ll be surprised how this figure grows on you over time.

The back of the Sith Speeder opens up and houses a Sith probe droid projectile. This is the part of the toy that Hasbro catered towards the kids, but we can’t say it’s a bad feature. It keeps things interesting. The Sith Speeder doesn’t come with any other accessories than the probe droid projectile, but there are enough things to appreciate instead of one accessory. Remember, Darth Maul looks amazing riding this vehicle. That’s very important here. If you want to talk gimmicky, Darth Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber can be threaded through the handlebars of the Sith Speeder (for reasons unknown). Instead of this approach, we would have appreciated a lightsaber hilt with removable blades much more instead. And if they didn’t want to give us removable blades, a lit and an unlit lightsaber/lightsaber hilt would have also been appreciated. We didn’t get to see that much screen time with Darth Maul riding the Sith Speeder, but the scenes we did see are enough to make us want to have this vehicle in our collections forever. Although small, collectors shouldn’t take the Sith Speeder And Darth Maul set for granted. It may appear small, but it packs a lot of punch, and we’re confident that collectors will enjoy what Hasbro provided to them with this release. We also hope for better articulated Darth Maul figures in the future. This character needs to do it all in our collections, and we need super-articulation for that!
