Weequay

General Analysis

Weequay may have been one of the most regularly available action figures of 1983. But despite his constant presence on store pegs, he’s always been one of my most favorite figures in the Return Of The Jedi line. By today’s standards, we’d much rather prefer to have articulation be the pathway for an action figure to hold up a vibro-axe attention, but in 1983 Kenner did that for us, with a pre-posed stance that relegated this figure to one position. Surely you could pose Weequay without his weapon, but he’d look like he’s missing something because of the wonky pose. Something about Weequay’s aqua blue shirt made him stand out from the rest of the Jabba retinue Kenner made in the first wave of RETURN OF THE JEDI figures. And if the past is any indication, the color of a figure was always a huge selling point for Kenner during the original Star Wars line. I remember taking my “Battle At Sarlacc’s Pit” board game and using it as a real Sarlacc pit for my Kenner action figures. Weequay was a repeating victim of the maw of the beast. It took a while, but Hasbro gave us our definitive Weequay action figure in THE VINTAGE COLLECTION, and aside from fixing some joint color issues, it’s a flawless specimen.

Hasbro's Most Definitive Modern Counterpart: 2012's THE VINTAGE COLLECTION Weequay (VC107) figure.
