Smooth and sophisticated, Captain Lando Calrissian stands ready to retire from the life of a smuggler and instead become a full-time gambler (or "sportsman," as he calls it), shuffling from card games to card game across the galaxy.

There is a part of the brain that refuses to reconcile that new actors playing younger versions of our classic Star Wars heroes are actually those same heroes. This is especially true when it comes to the cast of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Sure, we know who Han Solo is in this film. We know who Lando Calrissian is in this film. Yet it’s difficult for some brains to process that they’re indeed those characters when portrayed by new actors. We’ve always been of the opinion that relatively unknown actors and actresses work best for creating younger versions of established characters. It worked perfectly in The First Wives Club. It worked perfectly in Once Upon A Time. But for one reason or another Disney wants known actors to squeeze into the shoes of these established characters whether or not their likenesses are a dead ringer for them. It goes without saying that Donald Glover is a load of fun as an actor. His role in Community is an enjoyable one. But can he pass himself off as Lando Calrissian? He doesn’t remotely have any of the similar features of Billy Dee Williams. We don’t think he could even pass for his son. Hopefully, he will embody the character in the film and make us forget that he doesn’t look like a young Lando Calrissian at all.

Unlike the actor, Hasbro has created a The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figure that could be more accurate to actor Donald Glover. With the implementation of “photorealistic” technology, Hasbro is making the best action figures they’ve ever made. This new process breathes life into the action figures they make and shows what is capable in the 6” scaled line. Ever since the 6” line made its debut, collectors always believed that Hasbro has some dynamic sculpts in the line. It was the inferior paint operations that made the figures look like Hasbro was sophomoric in their efforts. Although we’re now deep into the line, at least we’re finally on the right track. And all of us look forward to what Hasbro will release next in this line. The Solo: A Star Wars Story version of Lando Calrissian is another example of a great-looking action figure in The Black Series [Phase III] lineup. The figure is an exact replica of actor Donald Glover, and the “photorealistic” approach take with the paint operations solidify this fact. From the shape of his hairstyle to the expression on his face, Lando Calrissian possesses the spirit of Original Trilogy Lando Calrissian and channels him via similar wardrobe and obvious attitude.

Lando Calrissian not only has beautiful paint operations in the face, but the rest of his costume has been giving bright colors and a deco that is even and smooth. You’ll notice that the figure’s costume has elements of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Knight outfit subtly mixed in as well. He possesses a strong Star Wars vibe throughout. The figure comes with four accessories. The cape and scarf are two removable outwear pieces. And then his gun breaks down into two separate pieces as well. One of the pieces looks like a communicator or microphone. It’s an odd accessory. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about it in the film. Lando Calrissian also comes with a holster where the two-part blaster can be housed when not in use. It’s a bit wonky, but with a little patience, you can get the blaster to fit inside of it nicely. With a wide range of premium articulation, Lando Calrissian can be posed in a variety of ways. He looks great no matter which poses you choose, and because of his outfit’s removable parts, you can configure him in a multitude of ways which gives this figure many options for various display scenarios. It will be interesting to see how audiences embrace this version of Lando in the film, but one thing is certain; this action figure is beautiful.
