It takes a defiant courage to stare down the threat of the First Order, and while Captain Poe Dameron is eager to fight, he worries that some in the Resistance leadership don't have what it takes.

Here are some fun facts for you. While preparing the RDR pages, the Photo Gallery and Collector Notes, we called Captain Poe Dameron, Captain Cassian Andor. We think that’s more than just a subconscious coincidence. Was our oversight a product of the two characters looking so much alike, despite being from two different Star Wars eras almost 40 years apart? They’re both donned in earth tones in an almost perfect one to one ratio, have similar skin tones and appear to be fighting for the same, but different, cause. He is still a pilot, but marketing has him being called Captain Poe Dameron now, and in all honesty, this is perhaps the best he’s looked in the Sequel Trilogy yet. Disney goes through the wash, rinse and repeat when it comes to the merchandising for the Star Wars films. Instead of getting a diverse cast of action figures, we tend to get the same main characters ad infinitum across every scale. Although, in all fairness, while still true, at least we are seeing one outfit in once scale and then another outfit in another scale. The repetition has somewhat diminished for The Last Jedi product line: a little bit. Admittedly, the 12-Inch Figure line has its moments, and then it doesn’t. But Captain Poe Dameron may be one of the highlights in the line. If you can accept what this line brings to the table, you should be able to see how this one stands out from the crowd.

But back to getting a figure in every scale possible, the same pattern is true for Captain Poe Dameron. This particular version of him (in this outfit) HAS been made across every style and scale in the line thus far. We have the decent The Black Series [Phase III] Captain Poe Dameron (53) figure. We also have the pack-in vehicle from the vehicle assortment in 5POA. And now we have the Captain Poe Dameron 12-Inch Figure which may rival them all when it comes to the character’s likeness. Not perfect, Captain Poe Dameron has a fantastic likeness in 12-Inch Figure scale. And Hasbro stepped up to the plate for this figure’s paint operations too. A fair resemblance to the actor is evident here, and Hasbro has tooled details into this figure that we just cannot take for granted. For example, we love how his sleeves go over the tops of his hands. It’s very realistic and matches the design of the higher quality 6” figure made of this character. The jacket he’s wearing has a fantastic fit and looks like a separate piece, but that’s all because of clever tooling and amazing attention to detail. He seems to be in perfect scale to other characters in the 12-Inch Figure line, and we’d say his only fault is that he only comes with seven points of articulation, although it’s probably easier to say he only comes with five as his sleeves inhibit his wrist movement quite a bit.

Captain Poe Dameron only comes with a, single accessory and that’s his blaster pistol. The nice thing here is that Hasbro has tooled a functioning holster on this figure and it fits perfectly inside of it. It is cast in an attractive bronze color, something we don’t see that often in the Star Wars line. It fits wonderfully in his right hand, but due to the limited articulation, you can’t get too many neat action-oriented poses with this figure for reasons unknown. Aside from a few missed and sloppy paint operations here and there, Captain Poe Dameron may be one of the nicer 12-Inch Figures we have seen produced in the Star Wars toy line in recent memory. We are interested in seeing what Captain Poe Dameron’s role will be in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. He is one of the few realistic characters in the Sequel Trilogy, and he has become a favorite with many new fans already. It feels like he is best served as a leader in the Resistance, and judging by his title and outfit, we don’t see him straying too far from that role. As far as toys, Captain Poe Dameron is looking pretty fine. There are sometimes human characters that are relatively easy to replicate well into toys. Obi-Wan Kenobi is one that immediately comes to mind. Captain Poe Dameron is seemingly another. Other than perhaps appearing a little too repetitious to other characters, we hope Hasbro keeps up the fine work with this character in the toy line.
