The captain and heart of the Ghost's rebel crew, Hera Syndulla was a gifted pilot and leader. Her command of her crew and the respect she earned from the Phoenix Squadron prompted her promotion to squadron leader by Commander Sato.

As people who aren’t too impressed with the Star Wars: Rebels television show, it makes it difficult to get excited about the action figures Hasbro makes based on characters that show up in this media event. However, once these figures are produced and released, the general consensus from collectors is that they end up being the greatest efforts by Hasbro. The same is true for The Black Series [Phase III] Hera Syndulla 6” figure. Wow. There is really no other way to out it. It was easy to comment on how wonderful the prototype looked when Hasbro revealed the figure officially, but we all sarcastically exclaimed that the final figure wouldn’t come close to looking like it. We have all been proven wrong about that. Hera Syndulla is easily one of Hasbro’s finest efforts in The Black Series 6” line and they should be proud of this accomplishment and be patting themselves on the back for a job well done. Hera Syndulla not only captures the realistic interpretation flawlessly of an animated character, the action figure is one of the most functional we have seen Hasbro produce. With thinner arms and legs Hasbro spared no expense here, nor did they try to dumb her down when it came to articulation. Hera Syndulla is a Hasbro triumph, and she has been done so well it makes us want to get to know a little more about her and how she influences the Star Wars timelines. See, Hasbro is solely responsible for Star Wars’ popularity. (That’s a joke for those that do not see that.)

Hera Syndulla has an incredible likeness. Hasbro had to carefully translate her unique animated features into a realistic interpretation that didn’t sacrifice the integrity of her special features. They succeeded here. Her head is about as perfect as you could hope for and they manage to capture her warm expression that exists behind her eyes to impressive levels. The excellent head sculpt has been brought to life with lovely paint operations. They have been neatly applied and expertly colored. We literally cannot find any places on the figure where we think Hasbro goofed. The green color of her skin complements her orange and brown outfit beautifully. Although they have very different features from one another, something about Hera Syndulla gives her a strong resemblance to Cesi "Doc" Eirriss from Star Wars: X-wing Rogue Squadron (which was released as an action figure in 2008's TLC Rebel Pilot Legacy (Series II) Evolutions set). The similarities we see extend beyond the species and kin color they share. As she was being developed, Hera Syndulla underwent a significant retooling. Originally intended to be part of the Darth Revan (34) wave, Hera Syndulla was pulled so that Hasbro could rework the articulation in her legs to be more humanoid. The joints were in the wrong place and gave her form a very strange appearance. We’re so happy that they took the time to perfect, even if it meant she would arrive significantly later than anticipated. The wait has paid off and we have a nearly perfect super-articulated action figures of Hera Syndulla.

Like so many other The Black Series 6” figures, and we’re not going to let Hasbro off of the hook with this, Hera Syndulla is too lightly accessorized. She comes with a tiny blaster pistol that can be housed in a holster that has been sculpted on her right lower leg. But why is this the only accessory with her? We’re not too familiar with the show, but there has to be other relevant accessories that could have been included with her. These are expensive action figures and there needs to be enough “stuff” included with them to make that MSRP much more acceptable. Perfect sculpting and nice paint operations certainly help make it easier to swallow the expensive price of these action figures, but Hasbro could do a whole lot more to make things better for collectors. In the case of Hera Syndulla, why not include removable goggles? Or why not include another larger blaster? Or why not include some sort of handheld console to recreate her flying the Ghost? These are all just some simple ideas for Hasbro, but the point here is that they have to start giving us more value for the very expensive figures. Now that we have Sabine Wren (33) and Kanan Jarrus (19) along with Hera Syndulla now, it seems we’re not too far from getting Ezra Bridger, Chopper and Zeb. They seem like they’re obvious choices for the line and it wouldn’t feel right if they didn’t make them for The Black Series 6” at this point. They must complete this crew. But if they don’t, they did pick three great ones so far.
