Rey is a resilient survivor, a scavenger toughened by a lifetime of dealing with the cutthroats of the harsh desert world of Jakku.

Huh. Believe it or not, we believe we’re impressed with the Rey (Jakku) figure from the Rogue One line. What is so perplexing about this is that the figure borrows most of 2015’s TFA Rey (Starkiller Base) Build A Weapon (Snow) figure and that was a figure we didn’t find favor with all that much. This new take on the original figures adds a brand new head sculpt and removable upper robes and gives this Rey (Jakku) version a very screen accurate figure with a better than average likeness. This truly looks like Daisy Ridley and one could argue that the makeup is a bit thick, but look at the likeness from all angles. It’s the best likeness of Rey we have seen to date. That includes both scales in The Black Series [Phase III] line. Sadly, the head sculpt probably won’t look good on the super-articulated version without being repainted. This 5POA version is frankly good as is, but when we’re talking collector-focused figures, some of the pancake batter and raccoon eyes need to be diminished a whole heck of a lot more. Still, we want to emphasize that we’re quite impressed with this Rey (Jakku) figure. We truly believe Hasbro has done the character right by this one.

We should also mention that although this figure is primarily that 2015 The Force Awakens version, there are indeed subtle differences between the two. Remember during The Power Of The Force “2” days when two versions of Luke Skywalker looked nearly identical, but there were actually very subtle differences between them? It’s the same principle here. It may or may not be wrong to consider Rey (Jakku) and all-new figure, but the sculpt just visually isn’t that different at all from the original 2015 release. We’ll leave that verdict up to you instead. Rey (Jakku) comes with the same accessories as her predecessor. This time the paint operations are a bit different. The backpack will give you rage when trying to fasten the straps with those annoyingly bending plugs. And for the Rogue One release we get an off-screen gauntlet cannon thingy that looks like a miniature version of her speeder (or sideways landspeeder) that we say her ride in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. It comes with a bright clear blue projectile with a removable rubbery tip. In all honest, we like the new approach to these projectiles. If we must get them, then this is the way to do them.

Obviously Rey (Jakku) can’t do too much thanks to her limited articulation. She comes with a ball-socket head, and then the standard swivel shoulders and swivel hips. But she does look great outfitted with her gear and just standing around in your collection. And while some may disagree with us on her paint operations, we think the likeness has been nailed, even if it looks like she is wearing too much makeup here. There seems to be an unvoiced trend in Star Wars collecting that the best versions of the characters from a certain Star Wars film as an action figure looks best well after the release of the film. If there is any clout to this perceived trend, Rey (Jakku) certainly fits this billing perfectly. If you’re a fan of Episode VII, and a fan of Rey, then we’d say this release is a must-have. In our opinion this is the best Rey figure Hasbro has produced. Again, she isn’t perfect, but she is significantly better than anything else we have received in the 5POA range. And for us, her head sculpt is better than what we have seen in The Black Series [Phase III] line (which in all honesty is an apples to oranges comparison anyhow). We’d recommend Rey (Jakku) for your collection. See for yourself why she’ll impress you too.
