After his first taste of combat during a brutal First Order night assault on a Jakku village, Stormtrooper FN-2187 defects from Kylo Ren's forces, becoming a fugitive.

The first act of The Force Awakens was an exciting rapid-fire sequence of action. These scenes helped gel or glue together all of the pieces of the puzzle that we got in forms of sneak peeks through the online trailers and stills (in addition to some production photographs that were leaked to the internet). One of the more interesting things revealed was Finn had become a rogue First Order Stormtrooper. His official designation was FN-2187. And this meant that he was to exist without any true human identity (and even remain under the helmet at all times). He got his “Finn” nickname from Poe Dameron who felt that FN-2187 was just too awkward and clumsy for a name. And the two forged a brief, but instantaneous friendship to escape the grips of the First Order. Finn felt something was missing in his life, and he was truly disturbed at the First Order’s actions (as reflected in the attack on the innocence in the Jakku village). Now Hasbro loosely bases the scenes of this character in a new 12-Inch Figure. But what is missing may aggravate you more than the unnecessary scale.

An all-new figure, Finn (FN-2187) is another “cookie cutter” release in the seemingly repetitious 12-Inch Figure line. Harshly referred to as “shampoo bottles” by critical collectors, Finn (FN-218) gets his turn in this up-scaled line. But not all may be happy. Although he comes donning his First Order Stormtrooper gear, the figure comes without a removable helmet (and this also means no cool blood smear). This is a big setback for fans of this particular version of the character. And we honestly don’t know why Hasbro didn’t make an effort to cost this out. It is an essential accessory. Thankfully, he does come with a First Order blaster that can attach to his thigh armor. Still, the figure feels like it is missing something important—because he is. As with all Finn action figures, Finn (FN-2187) has a fantastic likeness and good proportions to the onscreen actor. Some could criticize that this particular version may be a bit too tall. We’ll leave that for you to decide. Both hands can also hold the blaster for various posing purposes as well. So everything is seemingly in place with Finn (FN-2187) except for that one major issue.

Finn (FN-2187) comes with seven points of articulation. In addition to the standard articulation found in the head, shoulders, and hips, the figure also comes with two swivel wrists. This extra articulation helps him hold the gun a little bit better. Regardless, this newly approached style of 12-Inch Figures isn’t going to offer much play value for those kids and collectors looking to place their figures in action poses. It’s just not possible with this line. Aside from wishing that Hasbro added dirt on the armor, we think that visually Finn (FN-2187) has turned out remarkably well. The head sculpt in particular looks pretty fantastic. Still, as hardcore and longtime 3.75” collectors, we’d love to see this version of Finn (FN-2187) produced for the Walmart exclusive The Black Series line. They already have most of the parts ready to go. And we believe that they could reuse this helmet to complete the figure. It’s truly a different era of collecting that we live in now. The super-articulated stuff is few and far between right now. We don’t have any expectations for the current 12-Inch Figures line. It seems to collect badly at retail. But hopefully, it brings Hasbro the sales they need to produce more stuff for us.
