When the Rebels' secret base on the ice planet of Hoth is discovered, the Empire launches a full ground assault. As Rebel transports take off in a desperate attempt to flee the Empire's clutches, a few pilots are brave enough to attack the invading AT-AT Imperial walkers. Flying T-47 snowspeeders (2-person modified airspeeders). the Rebel pilots attack the walkers head-on with dual laser cannons, harpoons and tow cables.

Zev Senesca (A.K.A. Rogue TWO), a Rebel who saved Luke Skywalker and Han Solo from freezing to death in the harsh Hoth climate, is the pilot of this particular snowspeeder. Zev is also one of a few daring pilots to fly his snowspeeder into battle against the AT-AT walkers.

The morning after Han Solo and Luke Skywalker are left stranded in the middle of a Hoth blizzard, Zev departs Echo Base and embarks on a sweeping search for the Rebels. After making audio contact with Captain Solo, Zev calls back to Echo Base to announce, "I've found them!"

Sadly Rogue TWO is shot down by enemy crossfire during the Battle of Hoth, but his selfless contributions to the Rebel Alliance will never be forgotten.

What a thrilling time 2006 was for collectors! A diverse collection of figures evenly picked from across the Star Wars saga came in color-coded packaging was then joined by a healthy dose of exclusive and mainstream vehicles. The Saga Collection brought all six films together under one banner for the very first time, and it was an exciting time to collect. Hasbro even thought outside of the box when it came to store exclusives too. One perfect example of this was the releases of the Rogue Two Snowspeeder, a fantastic TARGET exclusive which for the first time gave collectors their very first action figure and vehicle take on this “B” character from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Retailing for a fair price no less, Rogue Two Snowspeeder helped us add to our already thick Hoth centered collections while bringing something new to the table instead of the same old thing. How many more Luke Skywalker snowspeeders do we actually need? Not going with the first knee jerk reaction is something Hasbro is succeeding in as evidenced by releases like these. And we hope Hasbro keeps it up. This is the way to do exclusives, and they’re appealing to hardcore collectors like never before: it’s a great time to collect Hasbro Star Wars stuff.

In all fairness, Zev Senesca may be one of the most underrated heroes in the Star Wars saga. If it wasn’t for him, most likely two of our favorite Rebel Alliance heroes may have become two well-preserved popsicles on the icy tundra of Hoth. Zev Senesca braved the cold to locate Han Solo and the injured Luke Skywalker and brought them back to safety at Echo Base. While a decent pack-in figure, it’s out opinion that we still need a definitive update to this character because while he is a good figure, there are still issues with him that we would like to see improved. For example, his helmet it way too big for his head and it wobbles around too much for our liking. Hasbro decorated it beautifully, but is needs to be better fitted on his crown. And while he does have ball-jointed knees, he has static arms that only move at the shoulders and the top of his gloves (forearms). This is never good articulation for an action figure’s upper body. Zev Senesca has the same legs as 2004’s SW [S - P3] Dutch Vander: Gold Leader (Battle Of Yavin) (’04 #13) figure. But the torso, head and arms are all-new. His portrait is excellent and the likeness is very recognizable to the actor. What’s more, Hasbro ensured that they gave Zev a coat length that falls below the hips. As you know, this is a very important detail for snowspeeder pilots so we give Hasbro credit for capturing this detail.

How about the Rogue Two Snowspeeder? Well, we’re fond of it too, but it isn’t without its own set of issues. For scale, these snowspeeder sculpts are too big. These vehicles (in the film) are much smaller and we wish Hasbro would revisit this and get the size done in a more accurate fashion. That being said, we’re thrilled with the enhancements they gave it for this TARGET exclusive release. They’ve added articulated airbrakes and underneath the flaps is exquisite detail. They look great open or closed and add a tremendous amount of authenticity to an already great vehicle sculpt. The canopy is big enough to fit two pilots, although, unlike 2002’s POTJ Luke Skywalker’s Snowspeeder (a Walmart exclusive) which included both Luke Skywalker and Dak Ralter, we only get a Zev Senesca figure with this release. That’s alright however. We have options to give Zev a copilot if we’re so inclined. The rest of the vehicle is beautifully painted and distinctly different than previous versions (as far as the deco is concerned). Collectors should immediately adore this release. Exclusively available at TARGET, Rogue Two Snowspeeder has an MSRP of $29.99 and you do get a nice amount of “stuff” for that price. For us this exclusive is a must-have. Hopefully you’ll agree.
