After his first taste of combat during a brutal First Order night assault on a Jakku village, Stormtrooper FN-2187 defects from Kylo Ren's forces, becoming a fugitive.

The first act of The Force Awakens was an exciting rapid fire sequence of action. These scenes really helped gel or glue together all of the pieces of the puzzle that we got in forms of sneak peeks through the online trailers and stills (in addition to some production photographs that were leaked to the internet). One of the most curious things revealed was that Finn was actually FN-2187, a stormtrooper without any identity save for his number, who received his more common nickname from Poe Dameron. This character felt that something was missing in his life, and he was disturbed at the First Order’s actions (as reflected during the attack on the innocent Jakku village). During the battle, one of his comrades was mortally wounded, and a smeared bloody handprint from his injuries transferred onto Finn’s helmet. A great take on this character for an action figure, Hasbro has already produced a couple versions of this figure in the various scales, and more are coming. We’re happy to report that the Build A Weapon version has turned out splendidly well and it’s become one of our favorites in the line already.

It’s no secret that Finn (FN-2187) is made from previously existing parts. His body is produced from 2015’s TFA First Order Stormtrooper (Snow) Build A Weapon figure with the slightly retooled head from 2015’s TFA Finn (Jakku) (Desert) Build A Weapon figure. A newly tooled removable helmet with bloodstain has also been included here. We can’t help be jettisoned back to when 1985’s The Power Of The Force Luke Skywalker (In Stormtrooper Disguise) was released. Finn (FN-2187) has the EXACT feel and vibe, and the static yet relevant pose amplifies this even greater. Simply put, we thoroughly enjoy this action figure. As with all Finn action figures, Finn (FN-2187) has a fantastic likeness and good proportions to the onscreen actor. He’s simply but perfectly accessorized with the aforementioned removable helmet as well as a First order blaster. Because it uses the standard First Order Stormtrooper body, the blaster attaches to the figure’s right leg. Both hands can also hold the blaster for various posing purposes as well. Everything is in place with Finn (FN-2187). We have very little to complain about here.

Finn (FN-2187) comes with an interesting Build A Weapon part. Like previous parts, it looks more like a technical gardening or lawn tilling tool than a believable weapon, but that is what the pack-in premiums look like for The Force Awakens line. When combined with parts from other figures in the wave, you can assemble some sort of sentry gun that seems somewhat believable, but is it necessary? For example, the part that comes with Captain Rex looks like a stretch to include here. Would a sentry gun need a flame projectile staff too? It’s just all very strange. Aside from a little more dirt on the armor, we think that Finn (FN-2187) has turned out remarkably well. We’d love to see this version of Finn (FN-2187) produced for the Walmart exclusive The Black Series line. They already have most of the parts ready to go. And we believe that they could reuse this helmet to complete the figure. But even if they don’t, we truly believe that this figure will fit into the lineup quite well regardless. It’s a different era we live in now. The super-articulated stuff is few and far between right now. Thankfully, a figure like this makes the 5POA line a little more palatable.
