First Order General Hux - TBS [P3] - Six Inch Figures (13)

A young, ruthless officer in the First Order, General Hux has complete confidence in his troops, training methods, and weapons.

In The Force Awakens, we learn that First Order General Hux is temper tantrum prone overgrown babysitter for Kylo Ren. Some fans thought he overacted in The Force Awakens, but for us he was one of the strongest characters in the film. Interestingly, his action figure in The Black Series [Phase III] 6” is equally strong. Coincidentally, the likeness on both 2015’s TFA First Order General Hux (Space) Build A Weapon figure and this one don’t resemble the actor all that well. Yet both action figures look splendid. How is that for inconsistency? If you spend some time, we can get the full picture of just how a 3.75” super-articulated version would get approached by inspecting the 6” version should Hasbro decide to add this character to the Walmart exclusive line. But if they never do, the 6” version is a nice addition to the toy line by itself and we’re glad that he is part of line, even if it is a larger scale. As you expect, First Order General Hux comes with plenty of articulation points. and they been worked into the action figure perfectly. The figure is very streamlined and we like the alternative options you have displaying him. First Order General Hux has become one of our favorite action figures in the line. But it makes us wonder how full of a 6” collection we’ll have because time is ticking away before the next film.

The head sculpt doesn’t really favor actor Domhnall Gleeson at all, but for us it doesn’t affect our appreciation of the action figure at all. There is a Nazi aura surrounding this character, and it is perhaps the reason why we have taken the character so seriously and appreciated the work that went into making a leader in the First Order so particularly evil. That has also been translated well into the action figure. First Order General Hux has a very athletic, albeit smaller, frame. Yet he still feels like a leader despite some larger characters that surround him in both the film as well as the action figure line. First Order General Hux has been cast in quality materials. The main figure is solid and can maintain poses quite well. But we’re especially impressed with the removable full length jacket shell that also adorns the figure. It has been cast in a pliable and softer plastic material that bends when you pose the figure. Even in action stances, First Order General Hux can move pretty freely as needed to reach you posing goals. The cap isn’t removable, but we’re honestly happy about that as Hasbro struggles to make them look natural as a separate accessory. They either sit too high on the figure’s head or don’t rest low enough on the head. Still, we'd rather complain about why "First Order" preceded his name. It is so odd.

First Order General Hux also comes with a pretty cool blaster pistol. We’re not entirely sure if it was intentional or accidental because we don’t have the source materials handy next to us, but only one side of the pistol is highlighted with white/silver detailing. The other side is solid black. If it was intentional, our interest has been piqued by this unique decorative design. There is no place to holster the gun when not is use, so we guess that we have to assume that he holsters it somewhere within the interior of his long coat. What’s nice about the figure when you remove the shell is that First Order General Hux looks complete without it which gives collectors an alternative style for this figure. And if you look at stills without First Order General Hux wearing his coat you can see that the First order insignia remains on his left upper arm. It’s a perfect arrangement here. Part of the fourth wave of The Black Series [Phase III] figures, distribution woes prevented most of the allotment from making it out by the end of 2015. It wasn’t until the beginning of the year that most of us finally began seeing this wave at retail, a trend that has frustrated us to the point of indifference when it comes to collecting these things.
