In The Power Of The Force “2” era, exclusive multipacks went over very well. The final for 1998 was a fantastic duo of cantina denizens and was released as Kabe And Muftak to much fanfare and happiness amongst those in the Star Wars collecting community. This Mutt and Jeff pair, although not witnessed together in Chalmun’s cantina, had a lot more in common that you might think, save for their diametrically opposite statures. Both were thieves and wasted a good portion of their lives drinking in the famous space watering hole. With many background alien creatures, fans have to look to the Expanded Universe to learn about and understand their back-stories, but many collectors took the time to do so because some of them had some truly remarkable tales to tell. For years, collectors have wanted Kenner/Hasbro to make all of the various cantina aliens. In The Power Of The Force”2” line, Kenner/Hasbro made a concerted effort to make these wishes come true. It was a bit of a surprise when announced, but collectors couldn’t wait soon enough for the release of the internet exclusive Kabe And Muftak two-pack. Both figures were excellently sculpted, albeit simply articulated. But between the sculpts and the paint operations, there is no doubt in our minds these figures will stand the test of time. They’re that good.

As mentioned, both Kabe And Muftak have excellent sculpts. But what really sets them apart from so many other basic figures in the Star Wars line are the paint operations. These highly detailed figures have remarkable deco. For instance, Kabe’s outfit is entrenched in beautiful copper detailing. And Muftak’s fur has a pearly finish to it. Although both figures lack high levels of articulation, the Kabe And Muftak set will undoubtedly appeal to all those who collect Star Wars figures. These completely unexpected characters look fantastic in any display, but you’ll likely want to pair them with Greedo, Ponda Baba and Momaw Nadon (and others) so they feel appropriately at home. For those who aren’t aware, Kabe is a female Chadra-Fan and Muftak is a male Talz. Both characters made very brief appearances in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, but their brief appearances were memorable and as such fan boys and girls want them developed into action figures. Our wishes have become Kenner/Hasbro’s commands and the final results are truly impressive. We will concede that maybe not all of the colors used are 100% screen accurate. But the quality of the applications are extremely important here and for that we’re quite thankful.

Kabe comes with a knife that honestly looks too big for her hands. But this accessory is tooled and decorated incredibly. It's probably also important to point out that her vest is removable too. Underneath you can find a highly detailed outfit. The craftsmanship is extremely impressive. We should also note that Kabe has a tiny bit of a balancing issue. Muftak on the other hand comes with a large gun, also not screen accurate, but appreciated that it has accompanied the action figure. He also possesses a flawless center of gravity. He has no problems standing whatsoever. It would have made more sense for Kenner/Hasbro to include bar glasses with these action figures instead of weapons. As thieves, maybe they do need weaponry, but since we remember them from the cantina we think scene specific accessories are more important than “outside of the box” other ones. As far as articulation, Kabe has a minimal four points of articulation while Muftak comes with six points of articulation. There isn’t a whole lot you can do with so few points of articulation, but it prevents them from being too statuesque. The nuts and bolts of the Kabe And Muftak two-pack make these great figures. And every modern collector should own a set.
