By the time the Freeze Frame phase of The Power Of The Force “2” collection arrived, we were well into completing the modern updates to the vintage Kenner lineup. But along the way Hasbro granted the wishes of many a collector by incorporating never before offered action figures into the mix as well. Character like the Sandtrooper, Grand Moff Tarkin and others were warmly embraced by collectors who thought that they would never have the opportunity to ever get these characters in 3.75” scale. Maybe because they were wary about a single-carded release or maybe because she just feels like an exclusive figure, Hasbro reserved Oola And Salacious Crumb for a nice boxed release for the Star Wars Fan Club. Part of the 1998 POTF2 “The Kenner Collection” (which encompasses most 1998 Kenner/Hasbro products), Oola And Salacious Crumb were eagerly anticipated exclusives and collectors couldn’t wait to get their mittens on them. Interestingly, 1,000 units of Oola And Salacious Crumb were reserved for the International Collectible Toy Expo in Philadelphia in 1998 which included an autograph by Femi Taylor, the actress who played Oola in both the original 1983 footage and new 1997 footage of the film.

Oola is a splendid action figure. She is part “static” pose and part “dancing” pose. Although limited to only six points of articulation, you are able to position her in a variety of way. She can sit, she can stand with her arms outstretched and you can even have her slightly bend over without falling down to the ground. The figure adds a healthy dose of versatility into the 3.75” action figure line as well as looks beautiful. Oola has a wonderful likeness to the onscreen character. Her skin is a little too yellow in appearance, but the design of her costume is spot on and her makeup looks faithfully recreated. She comes with three accessories technically, but only two will come off of the figure without potential damage to it. The leggings are cut from a netted fabric, have elastic and can be pulled off of and replaced onto her lower legs as you desire. This is a premium enhancement given to this figure and does a great deal for its aesthetics. And it’s one of the first examples of soft-goods in the modern era. Well-played, Hasbro! Oola looks great and it’s frankly wonderful to finally have her available in 3.75” scale. She is the perfect addition to The Power Of The Force “2” line.

With a slender figure and delicate proportions, we’re elated that Kenner/Hasbro decided not to make Oola look like a superhero. This action figure truly represents the character in the film with accuracy and aplomb. Alongside Oola comes an all-new sculpt of Salacious Crumb. For the first time ever we have a properly scaled and hyper realistically interpreted version of the Kowalkian monkey-lizard for our collections. Sadly, Salacious Crumb comes with no articulation at all, but he looks great nonetheless. His color is definitely off as he has been decorated in too many pastels instead of the dark tan his actually skin color is. The sculpt however is excellent. It favors the puppet from the film perfectly and Kenner/Hasbro even sculpted him with a little bit of attitude with his right hand on his hip and his body cocked to his left. They really did a fantastic job on him. Oola And Salacious Crumb are a nice duo as they complemented each other as Hasbro’s “property” during the beginning of Return Of The Jedi. Sadly, Oola doesn’t suffers from a terrible fate in the film as she becomes the rancor’s fodder. But because of her beauty and striking demeanor, she will forever remain an important character for Star Wars collectors. We like how she was given the deluxe treatment to emphasize her specialty in the Star Wars universe.
