Inside the Death Star's detention corridor, Darth Vader is intent on snapping Princess Leia's defiance. Accompanied by an Imperial interrogation droid, the Sith Lord enters cell 2187, determined to learn the location of the hidden Rebel base from his royal prisoner.

“Where is his fully lit lightsaber?!” collectors cried out all across the Earth. And they were so worried about what wasn’t included inside of the bubble package that they almost overlooked the very important addition to this release. The Power Of The Force “2” Darth Vader brought the collecting community’s first action figure representation of the IT-0 interrogator droid, here called an Imperial Interrogation Droid by Hasbro. We’ll get to this droid in better detail in a few moments. What those who do not open their figures might have missed however with this Darth Vader figure is that Hasbro sculpted a permanent unlit lightsaber hanging from his belt. So he does “come” with one. This is more than satisfactory for us because he didn’t duel a fully lit lightsaber in any of the scenes involving the “torture” droid. So, what Darth Vader (With Imperial Interrogation Droid) brings us is a good update to Darth Vader that is complete with screen accurate details, soft-goods and a little bit more articulation. Can anyone find fault in that?

Darth Vader (With Imperial Interrogation Droid) is a significant Episode IV update to the classic Star Wars villain. He was very bulky when The Power Of The Froce “2” line made its debut, and Hasbro has trimmed him down quite a bit over the years by giving him a more streamlined silhouette and enhanced screen accuracy. The robes go over his shoulders, so you know this is the Vader from A New Hope, and the distinct pattern of his ribbed gloves also prove that this is the first incarnation of the Darth Vader costume. Hasbro has added two swivel biceps to Darth Vader that at first look looks like elbows, but if you inspect the figure carefully enough you will see that it is indeed the biceps that are articulated. What makes this articulation wonky is that his arms are bent at 90 degrees already. There isn’t much you can do with his arms now aside from having them rest along his belt line. It seems for us that Darth Vader needs outstretched arms first and then bent arms second. But they updated his helmet beautifully. It’s a nice upgrade for sure.

The Imperial Interrogation Droid, correctly referred to as an IT-O interrogator, is such a welcomed “character” for the basic figure line. And honestly, Hasbro has sculpted the droid beautifully. It obviously doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of the actual prop, but there are enough utility and medical tool looking devices added here to make a statement. It has been painted beautifully with a black base coat and then accented with white, silver and red accents. Hasbro has also tooled a nice “invisible” display stand at a nice height so that the Imperial Interrogation Droid “hangs” in mid air at about the right height next to Darth Vader. You won’t find the words “BRITISH MADE” on it, but it still is a faithful replica of the onscreen prop. It truly completes this set beautifully. Darth Vader (With Imperial Interrogation Droid) is a nice addition to the modern Star Wars basic figure line. There will ultimately be better versions of Darth Vader in the future, but it’s likely that the Imperial Interrogation Droid will hold its own for years to come.
