The Power of the Force is in your hands with Star Wars: Episode I Mega Action Figures! Each figure features battle actions straight from the movie... and YOU control them! Let the battle begin!

A young Jedi strong in the Force, Obi-Wan Kenobi is an expert in the art of hand-to-hand combat. With seemingly effortless grace and power, Obi-Wan cuts down several battle droids with the burning blade of his lightsaber, Now with Mega Action Obi-Wan Kenobi, you can recreate the same battle moves – just like the movie!

The Obi-Wan Kenobi Mega Action figure may have just as much wrong as it does right with it. A great sculpt, a cool angry likeness, premium soft-goods and a nice accessory are without a doubt its strengths. But it is its one really bad weakness that makes this figure ultimately fail. And that would be the action feature system it has. You’d think Hasbro could squeak in a little button for an action feature and call it a day, but it order for kids to hold onto the figure better, Hasbro sculpted an actual ring (that is quite necessary) and it protrudes out from his back. It’s big enough to house two fingers if needed. As you can imagine, the sight of this is ridiculous and totally ruins the aesthetics of the sculpt. But we would be lying if we claimed that it certainly didn’t help in achieving the action feature with relative ease. If you can overlook the ring and the action feature, which will be nearly impossible in our estimation, Obi-Wan Kenobi is actually a very nice looking figure. He is perfect and the likeness isn’t a dead ringer for the actor in the film, but Obi-Wan Kenobi may not be an action figure you would easily pass on normally.

Obi-Wan Kenobi comes with nine points of articulation. Hasbro added swivel elbows to give him more movement with the included lightsaber accessory. The lightsaber accessory itself is a little odd. It tapers down the closer you get to the point and it is very reminiscent of the lightsaber that came with Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi and Luke Skywalker in the Kenner Large Size Action Figure lineup. Anyway, thanks to this added articulation, you can achieve some very cool posses with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Of course, he has a very scene specific look of aggression on his face, so that severely limits just how many scenes you could utilize him. He sadly has no outer robe, but that’s alright because this figure is definitely meant to represent Obi-Wan Kenobi during the scenes where he battled Darth Maul alongside Qui-Gon Jinn in the Theed hangar areas. The color of his costume and the coloring of his features like his hair seem to be perfectly colored. So we really have no complaints with the finishing touches of this action figure. The packaging instructs you to hold the ring with your finger and then push the lever on his back downwards with your thumb. This makes his arms flail with some “cool” lightsaber action.

Obi-Wan Kenobi comes with swivel hips and a wide stance. This means that you can recreate the appearance of Obi-Wan Kenobi when he kicked up both legs at the same time to take down some B1 battle droids. (And that trusty finger ring will help you to hold him in the air while he does this.) And lastly, Hasbro sculpted a beautifully think Padawan braid that is able to be moved to the front and the back of him as needed whenever you decide to pose him. We are definitely on the fence about this scale. We believe it could have potential in the long run, but Hasbro would have to abandon action features and instead put all extra dollars into dynamically tooling excellent sculpts. Obi-Wan Kenobi is perhaps about the same quality as Darth Maul. They each possess about the same number of positives as they do negatives. It was probably a smart thing that Hasbro held off this line until after the Episode I line had ended because these figures certainly would have been completely lost in the shuffle. But don’t expect this line to take off like a rocket either. There are too many collectors wholly invested in the 3.75” scale anyway.
