At an early age, it was evident that there was a dark will behind young Veradun's sensitivity to the Force. Acknowledging his impressive potential, his adoptive father arranged for Verandun to attend the Sith Academy of Dromund Kass where he would train under Sith Master Vindican. Now, having risen to the status of Sith Lord, dubbed Darth Malgus, he has become a formidable commander in the Imperial Army. Following his vision that he will be responsible for the fall of the Republic and its Jedi Order, Malgus takes his place as a defining force in the Great Galactic War.

Sideshow Collectibles means serious business. And they have proven this with the release of Darth Malgus (The Old Republic) in the 1:6 Scale Figures line. Showing that they eager to move away from the standard Prometheus body types, Sideshow Collectibles crafts an amazing body for the figure. You’re going to think it’s an all-new body buck to fit the style of the evil Sith Lord Darth Malgus’ very bulky outfit, but the standard Prometheus body can be found under the armor. The figure itself is a stunning accomplishment. If it’s possible for a 1:6 Scale Figure to be perfect, Darth Malgus is pretty dang close. Some aesthetic issues exist, but for the most part there is an inordinate amount of reasons why this 1:6 Scale Figure will impress you and make you thankful that you plopped down the money you did for it. Based on The Old Republic video game, Darth Malgus has quickly become one of the most popular characters in the Expanded Universe. First starting off in Hasbro’s basic figure line entitled The Vintage Collection, the Darth Malgus (VC96) figure became one of the most sought after action figures of all time. It’s clear why every other licensee is following suit and releasing their wonderful interpretations of the character too in the respective scales they provide to Star Wars collectors. Darth Malgus (The Old Republic) sets a new trend for Sideshow Collectibles. And collectors are going to be enthralled with what they see here.

As mentioned above, Darth Malgus utilizes the Prometheus body type. This amazing buck contains 31 points of articulation. On an “unarmored” figure, this many points of articulation is quite an impressive feat as it gives an incredible range of movement. That being said, you’re going to be misled in believing that Darth Malgus (The Old Republic) comes with quite a bit less articulation. The pleated body glove and outer armor severely limit how well this figure can move. Please don’t misunderstand our point. You do get a good range of motion out of this figure, but it’s nowhere near the amount of movement that you would get if the buck wasn’t so encumbered by what’s housed outside of it. We noticed right away that Sideshow Collectibles used a very pliable plastic to design the interchangeable hand attachments. This made adding the lightsaber hilt or fully lit lightsaber to his hand extremely easy. If you own some of Sideshow Collectibles’ earliest 1:6 Scale Figures, you know how nearly impossible it was to add accessories to hand attachments without breaking them. It was quite maddening. You shouldn’t have any issues with the new figures, and especially Darth Malgus. The hand attachments aren’t the only things to like about the figure obviously, however. Darth Malgus looks fantastic. He couldn’t looks any better ion his Sith Raider armor, and the few accessories he comes with won’t overload your senses. There is just enough here. It’s perfect.

Another nice feature here is the removable respirator mask. And if you’re one of the lucky Sideshow Exclusive collectors, you’ll be thrilled to know that the removable respirator works with both the regular scarred as well as the exclusive undamaged portrait. It fits like a glove on his face and the detail on it is astounding. The fabric cape is equally impressive. It’s been permanently attached to his removable upper body armor, but the drape on it is just simply mind-blowing. It has a luxurious texture and is weighty so it hangs heavy and feels like silk when you run your fingers through it. We just never have great luck with the wiring that is adding to from the hood of these figures. Some people have great luck, but we don’t and therefore we wish that Sideshow Collectibles would eliminate this feature from the capes, because we just can’t get it to look right. If you like this feature, then more power to you, but we just cannot stand it. Don’t worry, it’s not enough for us to label that a setback. Sideshow Collectibles also ensure that delicate parts were cast in a pliable material. We were nervous that we would break a part sticking off from the body, but were relieved to discover that they bent when pressure was put on them. It was great to know that they weren’t going to break off and necessitate a replacement from Sideshow Collectibles. Both portraits are absolutely gorgeous. Sideshow Collectibles really knows how to design head sculpts now. We have restored confidence in them. In short, Darth Malgus (The Old Republic) is a must-have 1:6 Scale Figure. We don’t think they’ll be able to top it.
