For 800 years he has trained Jedi. All of them. Sharing with his students nearly a thouand years of accumulated wisdom and knowledge, he has led them through their youngling years, teaching them the mysteries of the Force until their acceptance by their Masters as Padawan learners. He has maintained a connection with them through the Force, offering guidance to each as they require it. He feels the life and the death of every Jedi he has taught, regardless of the distance between them.

And so, Jedi Master Yoda feels a great disturbance in the Force as the young Jedi, Anakin Skywalker, is seduced by the dark side and becomes the angent of evil, Darth Vader. He feels the death of every Jedi Master, Knight, Padawan, and Youngling slaughtered en masse on the order of Vader's Sith master, Darth Sidious.

Heavy of heart and burdened with terrible purpose, Master Yoda understands that only her has the strength and skill to combat Lord Sidious and end his reign of darkness before it begins. So he sends the only other living Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi, to destroy the Dark Lord's apprentice who was once his best friend. Leaving Yoda to face the newly-crowned Emperor on his own.

After an epic battle that shatters the Republic Senate chamber, Yoda ultimately fails in his quest to destroy Darth Sidious. He consigns himself to exile on the planet Dagobah, where he awaits the coming-of-age of the twin babes who represent the galaxy's final hope against the oppression of the Sith.

We know it’s true for Hasbro that they try to amortize tooling costs by creating as many different characters out of one all-new sculpt. A simple example would be the phase I clone trooper. Once they lock down the “all-white” design, they can make the clone trooper officers as well as delve into some phase II and Expanded Universe clones as well. Logic then dictates that this would be especially true for a high-end collectibles company because there are even less opportunities to reuse a sculpt and with even more expensive larger figures the costs become astronomical. So it isn’t odd that we have now received the third Yoda 1:6 Scale Figure in Sideshow Collectibles successful twelve-inch scale collectible figures line. Just like Yoda (Jedi Mentor) and Holiday Yoda before it, Yoda (Jedi Master) is perhaps a little bit more aggressive than the previous two. This version of Yoda focuses on all three Prequel Trilogy films, including the Blu-ray release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace where the quirky puppet version of Yoda was replaced with a digital one for a more seamless look from one film to the next. This may be controversial, but our personal nitpick here is that there should have been three portraits included instead of two. We would have loved to see the “puppet” head sculpt of Yoda included here as well, for posterity if nothing else. (We’re sure that was immediately turned down by Lucasfilm, Ltd.) That being said, the two portraits included looks amazing. There is a generic (or pensive) looking Yoda, as well as a more “angry, lightsaber wielding” portrait.

Fans of the Prequel Trilogy or not, Yoda (Jedi Master) looks relatively fantastic beyond his hgead sculpts. You get a gaggle of incredible accessories to accentuate his Prequel Trilogy presence, all of which have been designed incredibly and painted even better. Most notable is the Jedi Council chair accessory. It’s fairly huge in comparison to Yoda. Its design perfectly matches what we witnessed in the Prequel Trilogy and the coloring looks fantastic. The chair’s outer design is metallic baby blue and the cushion parts are a deep orangey red color. Sideshow’ sculptor’s added a great deal of detail in the cushions. The best part is Yoda (Jedi Master) can sit comfortably and naturally in it. Accessories can work hard to make a 1:6 Scale Figure look even better and the Jedi Council chair succeeds in doing this beautifully. That being said, the Jedi Council chair is hardly the tip of the iceberg here because Sideshow Collectibles have included a nice supply of additional accessories here too. Yoda comes with a total of five sets of hands (four extra sets to be precise) and two sets of feet. One pair are curved for standing on an arc like surface, like a log for example while the other pair is flatfooted. We found that Yoda (Jedi Master) is most easily posed with the flat surfaced feet. He also comes with a lightsaber hilt and fully ignited lightsaber. We found it a bit difficult to add the hilt to either lightsaber in his “gripped” hand attachment, so be careful when you receive your piece. The lightsaber hilts are very fragile and can snap easily. He also comes with a cane (gimer stick) and fully removable three-piece soft-goods outfit. The outer robe is wired for more posing options. We feel Sideshow goofed and included a more rugged "Original Trilogy" outer robe here. The one seen in the Prequel Trilogy is more fitted and has a clean drape.

The exclusive accessory is a Jedi Holocron Cube. We find it a slightly off choice. Sideshow Collectibles is committed to making Sideshow Exclusive accessories unique to the figure at hand and to never be used again. So if they attempt more characters from The Clone Wars, they’ll have to avoid including a Jedi Holocron Cube with those characters. And we know how many storylines were set around the Jedi Temple and this item. Also, we never saw Yoda interacting with a Jedi Holocron Cube in the Prequel Trilogy. So as a result we find this accessory to be a gimmicky nod to a realistic interpretation of Yoda from The Clone Wars television series. Maybe this was Sideshow Collectibles’ way of covering all the bases with Yoda (Jedi Master) and if that was the case it works. We personally love the accessory. It’s pretty big. In fact, we might be inclined to think that it’s a tad too big. But we don’t have evidence to prove this detail. For $99.99, you do get a ton of value for your money. We’re actually impressed with how much Sideshow Collectibles has packed into this box. There is something here to make him specific to each film in the Prequel Trilogy. Even his “stand” is a cleverly designed hoverchair (as first seen in Attack Of The Clones) along with Jedi Temple flooring for a base. Yoda (Jedi Master) does look incredible. Sideshow Collectibles made the most of this sculpt and have not disappointed. We hope you’re a fan of Prequel Trilogy Yoda because this one was done incredibly well. It will be interesting to see if Sideshow Collectibles finds another way to reuse this sculpt for another Yoda release. But for now, all the major bases are covered.
