The beautiful Princess Leia Organa is a symbol of diplomacy, strength, and hope within the Rebel Alliance. While serving as the youngest member of the Imperial Senate, Princess Leia secretly leads the struggling Rebellion in their mission to overthrow the Galactic Empire. After being captured and forced to witness the destruction of her homeworld, Leia continues to place her dedication to the Alliance above her own personal needs and safety. She makes a new family within the Rebellion and with her rescuers, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. Soon, the Princess develops feelings for Han and begins to display a tender warmth previously hidden beneath her brave exterior. During the Battle of Endor, the Princess discovers Luke to be her twin brother, separated at birth to protect them from their father, the villainous Darth Vader. Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi had placed them in hiding because he knew that if Vader's offspring were allowed to realize their latent Force abilities, they would be the only hope in returning peace and order to the galaxy. Through this realized potential and strong resolve, Leia helps the Rebellion succeed in bringing the Empire's tyranny to an end.

The Premium Format Figures line is the perfect way for Sideshow Collectibles to showcase a Star Wars character. Not only does it realize the character in a much larger scale than collectors have been accustomed to, it brings the details, silhouettes and accessories of these characters with amazing detail and in a very high quality platform. This mixed media line which seamlessly blends polystone, metal, fabric and other materials is becoming increasingly popular, yet the edition sizes don’t seem to be growing. This is certainly good for aftermarket value, but ultimately it may frustrate those who need to save up for these expensive pieces and it certainly eliminates collectors that haven’t kept up from the beginning. Good for releasing anywhere from one to four pieces a year, Sideshow Collectibles brings Princess Leia into the line and those who are exclusive collectors benefit by getting an extra arm/gun combination accessory for some versatility. The Sideshow Exclusive version comes with an extra right arm sporting a stormtrooper’s blaster (which was seen mostly throughout the second half of the film). Princess Leia in her silky white gown is easily the most memorable for Star Wars fans. Sideshow Collectibles did this piece justice and just love how they made her unique from any other high-end collectible produced.

The Premium Format is done up in what Sideshow Collectibles confidently claims is exact 1:4 scale. Skeptics incessantly debate this, but we have found incredible accuracy in Sideshow’s assessments and rarely do we feel that their measurements are off in the slightest, if at all. The Premium Format Princess Leia figure captures every last drop of attitude that she has in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Carrie Fishes brought a great deal of sass to her character and so does Sideshow bring it to the collectible interpretation. Her hips and head are cocked in a very confident manner. And regardless of which interchangeable hand attachment you use, she is holding up a blaster in a warm yet threatening demeanor. Most of her is cast from “high quality” polystone which has been hand-cast and then hand-painted. Sadly, you need to see the figure up close and in person to appreciate all of the meticulous details that they’ve included on this piece. What makes Princess Leia especially unique are the “real” eyelashes added. They are real fibrous soft-goods that have been painstakingly adhered to the base of her eyelids. It’s impressive to say the least. She has the right amount of makeup including her brightly colored red lips and the black makeup around her eyes make them pop out at you.

Princess Leia is dressed in deluxe soft-goods which are near exact imitations to the costume seen in the film. The long gown is high cut at mid length on the side so she can show off her boots, sexy legs and underwear (if you so choose to lift her gown higher). The gown has a long hood attached to it so that you can display her in an “incognito” type of way, just as she appeared to R2-D2 to hide the secret plans of the Death Star. Her outfit is the finished off with an exact replica of the belt that was seen in Episode IV too. Frankly, the belt is one of our favorite parts of this Premium Format Figure. Sideshow Collectibles did a fantastic job recreating this detail of the white leather and metal ornaments and we think it’s the best replica of it you’ll find in this scale and other similar scales (if you’re looking for such things). On the other hand, the display base is a little bit boring for us. It looks to be a portion of the Death Star, but it’s hidden mostly by Princess Leia when the piece is fully assembled. If we had input to offer, we would have asked Sideshow to add real hair to Princess Leia instead of having sculpted hair. It might have been hard to accomplish, but we think it would have made this piece even better. The Princess Leia Premium Format Figure is excellent. It’s one to consider for your collection.
