A KOTOBUKIYA Japanese Import! The galaxy's most feared bounty hunter returns to the hit line of smaller scale Star Wars Saga Collection ARTFX+ Statues. A clone of Jango Fett and one of the freelancers chosen to hunt down the Millennium Falcon for Darth Vader, the armored jetpack-toting mystery man joins the ARTFX+ line in a new version representing his appearance in the final film: BOBA FETT RETURN OF THE JEDI VER.! With an all-new sculpt and paint scheme this is a great successor to the previously offered The Empire Strikes Back Boba Fett.
Cold and calculating, Boba Fett is never encountered without his full suit of Mandalorian armor and trusty blaster rifle. The armor plating over a full-length bodysuit clearly shows the wear and tear of a life of crime, along with all of the personal touches added by Fett over the years like the cape and unique built-in weaponry. The bounty hunter is a perfect likeness of the character specifically from Return of the Jedi, down to the correct colors on his armor and cape. Boba is posed in a new fighting stance and comes with interchangeable parts so you can display him wielding his iconic blaster or preparing to fire his wrist-mounted gauntlet weapons! Like all of the Star Wars ARTFX+ statues, Boba Fett has magnets in his feet for extra stability on his included display base.
ARTFX+ Statues are fun-to-assemble pre-painted snap-fit kits that can be easily put together in seconds without glue or modeling skill. Boba Fett stands over 7 inches tall (1/10th scale) and looks great displayed alongside all of the other Saga Collection statues!
When you’ve been in the business for 60 years you would assume that if you couldn’t master your craft by now that maybe you should call it quits, right? Thankfully, this is not an issue for the people at Kotobukiya who have managed for six decades to provide amazing stuff for the high-end collectibles market. Obviously they haven’t been working on the Star Wars franchise that long, but they’ve developed years of skill sets to apply it to the line and are doing wonders with it. As far as Star Wars fans are concerned, Kotobukiya has interestingly only had the Star Wars license since the early 2000s, so that license is relatively new by comparison when looking at the company’s history and timeline. But they have managed to deliver one quality product after another while perfecting their processes every step of the way. Kotobukiya struck proverbial gold with the 1/10th scale ARTFX+ “model kits” (for lack of a better word). These multiple piece vinyl statues are really unique in the world of Star Wars collectibles. You don’t need a license to build models and if you can figure out how to snap-fit an arm and leg into a body cavity, this line is for you. And one of their most successful lines to date, they show no signs of stopping bringing us high quality Star Wars collectibles.
It’s evident that the artisans at Kotobukiya adore Boba Fett, but then again who doesn’t. Always on their “plan-o-gram” in some aspect or another, Boba Fett now gets the royal treatment in the ARTFX+ series. Based on his specific appearance in Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, the vinyl statue, with its reduced scale in comparison to their 1/7th scale line, is a very impressive collectible. In the past they have focused on his Episode V appearance, so it’s very refreshing to see a collectible that focuses on his appearance from the final film in the Original Trilogy. A screen accurate (and very memorable) sculpt has been given to Boba Fett and the attitude, color palette and design are evidently ripped right out of Episode VI, right before he met his untimely “death” in the Sarlacc pit. Boba Fett is made whole from ten unique pieces. Kotobukiya even made each Wookiee braid a separately sculpted piece. This isn’t something we take lightly because little details like this not only something that often isn’t attempted with other licensees, but it helps create and air of screen accuracy that otherwise cannot be obtained.
Boba Fett’s details are what make this piece look as fantastic as it does. He’s been done a million times in a million different formats, yet Kotobukiya has managed to find a fresh approach with this particular piece. Collectors may also find some solace in the MSRP too. In an era where Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 Scale Figures line ranges between $149.99 and $199.99, the Boba Fett (Return Of The Jedi Ver.) ARTFX+ figure is a mere $49.99. This is also significantly cheaper than Gentle Giant Ltd.’s Mini Busts, which now hang around in the $75 ballpark anymore. Obviously other licenses have their own niche and specificity of why they’re in the Star Wars collectible market, but it’s nice to know that you can find a high quality collectible (of the full character no less) for around fifty dollars. With a gorgeous paint job and with clear painful attention to detail, we can hardly find reason to find fault with the piece. We wish Kotobukiya would have constructed his rangefinder out of a stronger material because it droops, but it’s not something that really detracts from the overall piece. There is a great deal to love here. This is a line that you should at least consider for your own collection.
