Vehemently opposed to the corrupt and oppressive Empire, Alderaan's Princess Leia Organa is one of the most proactive young leaders in the Rebel Alliance. Beautiful and intelligent, Leia has made a name for herself in the Imperial Senate and has a reputation for levelheaded politics and maturity far in excess of her years. Under the cover of her diplomatic errands, the headstrong young noble carries out the work of her father and his allies, surreptitiously coordinating Rebel activity right under the noses of Coruscant's Imperial elite. The risks to both Leia and her family can hardly be understated. While Leia and her father Bail Organa, Alderaan's senator and the husband of Queen Brea, go to lengths to conceal their activities and avoid openly attacking the Emperor, their discreet opposition to his policies is known to the Empire.
When the Princess is apprehended by Lord Vader on a secret mission to find lost Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Emperor's lieutenant believes he finally has the proof he needs to arrest Organa and her Rebel allies. Wily Leia, however, hides the stolen Death Star plans he seeks in a plucky astromech droid and instructs him to deliver them to Kenobi at all costs. Though thwarted, Vader nonetheless detains her as a traitor and an enemy of the Empire and attempts to extract information from her through intimidation and fear. But, with a will every bit as strong as the Sith's, Leia resists giving up the rebels, even faced with such terrible sights as the obliteration of her homeworld and her family.
Leia's scheduled termination by the Imperials is also prevented when the Princess is rescued from her Death Star prison cell by Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca, thanks to her foresight and trust in Artoo. It would be a fateful meeting of heroes that would see unlikely friendships formed, love kindled, a scattered family reunited and ultimately, free a galaxy from tyranny.
Sideshow Collectibles has been criticized for overlooking or intentionally avoiding certain Star Wars characters for their 1:6 Scale Figures line. It seems that they lack focus in general and have no rhyme or reason really for why they’re releasing certain characters and not others. Star Wars 12” scale enthusiasts are praying for the day that Sideshow announces Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 among many overdue characters. Likewise, we wondered why it took so long for them to announce and release Leia Organa (Imperial Senator: Alderaan) in the Heroes Of The Rebellion line as well. The wait is over and Sideshow Collectibles has fabricated a very solid representation of everyone’s favorite princess, but we wonder how well she will age throughout the years because in the very short time that Sideshow Collectibles has had the Star Wars license there is an obvious progression of improvement. Leia Organa (Imperial Senator: Alderaan) has a very good likeness mind you, but it’s quite possible that Sideshow would be bale to do an even better one a few years down the road.
We also find it a bit odd that Sideshow Collectibles neglected to use “Princess” in the figure’s name. If there was a very appropriate version of Leia to use this identifier with, it would unequivocally be this one. Gone is the corn silk hair and instead are molded “star puffs” (sorry, that’s a term that Kenner used to describe her hairstyle and it’s left an indelible mark on our brains). The portrait looks very good in general and strangely looks better at some angles as compared to others. Her outfit seemingly has all the right parts to it, but we’re not too crazy about the texture of it. Correct us if we’re wrong, but Princess Leia Organa’s white robes had a drape of a jersey like material (stretchy and clingy) in the film. The material used for the 1:6 Scale Figure is too stiff and feels a little too much like those really gaudy bedspreads that are so shiny that they reflect light. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but the material used doesn’t stay in place like you’re going to want it to and we find that a bit of a setback here. She doesn’t come with many accessories, so it would have been nice to see a little more effort get put forth into the costume.
Her accessories are perfect and the number of them is light. She comes with both her standard long barreled pistol in addition to the BlasTech E-11 stormtrooper blaster. She can hold both of them with relative ease and she looks great armed with them. Also included are the “Death Star plans” which is about the smallest accessory we’ve seen in the 1:6 Scale Figures line we believe. It doesn’t come with any adhesive like the communicators do with the Jedi, so be careful or your carpet might swallow it up forever. For exclusive collectors, Sideshow Collectibles have given you a pair of separately sculpted left and right wrist binders that adjoin so you can pose her as a prisoner and have Darth Vader lead her to Grand Moff Tarkin. This exclusive addition is very simple but it’s functional and looks great on this figure, so we’re pretty happy with it. And the good news here is that Sideshow Collectibles vows that these exclusive accessories will NEVER be available in any capacity again. Leia Organa (Imperial Senator: Alderaan) is a great addition to the Heroes Of The Rebellion line. Sideshow Collectibles has not added too many products in this line so it’s nice when they do. We hope they’ll bring us a few more in the future.
