Jedi Council member Saesee Tiin is well known for his exceptional starfighter piloting skills and daring space battles. His telepathic abilities and strong connection to the Force make him a powerful member of the Jedi Order.
One look at 2002’s SW [S - P1] Saesee Tiin (Jedi Master) (‘02 #20) figure and you know that Hasbro just wasn’t playing fair with collectors. So many of the Jedi from the Geonosis Arena sequence were relegated to miniature plastic statues for the 2002 basic figure line. And while the excitement to buy new Star Wars action figures took over collectors’ bodies, we quickly realized just how poorly designed these figures were. Hasbro utilized the 2005 Revenge Of The Sith basic figure line as some sort of weird apology to collectors. They design good to great new Jedi action figures, many with premium articulation, that forgave the egregious sins of those early 2002-2004 figures. Frivolous additions like the blast effects and unnecessary accessories were eliminated or abandoned and better sculpting and awesome use of soft-goods all became the new focus for 2005 and the effort paid off big time. Collectors, kids and even Hasbro was happy with the new approach taken for Jedi action figures. And it’s a precedent that has been sent for all future action figures as well. We think that Saesee Tiin is a little more special that the other Jedi in the line. Let’s see if we can explain why this is true for us.
Saesee Tiin may have one of the best face sculpts in the entire Revenge Of The Sith basic figure line. We can’t say that Hasbro executed a perfect paint job on it, but the detailing in the sculpt is second to none and an expression of grit is forever immortalized in his face. He has a very extravagant pattern on the back of his head. It seems like Hasbro used some sort of stenciled application to get this perfect on the figure, but it also looks natural as well. Saesee Tiin’s face is a little too “white” for our liking, but sometimes finishing paint operations are often and sadly ignored on some of our best action figure sculpts. Saesee Tiin lacks his outer Jedi robe. This is indeed disappointing. it seems that Hasbro may have been inadvertently updated the Episode II “Geonosis Arena” version of Saesee Tiin instead hence the omission of his outer robes. But in a day and age where most of our Jedi figures come with soft-goods robes, we’re sure you can find an extra to give to Saesee Tiin. Just try and focus on the good that Hasbro brought to this action figure, otherwise you’ll miss out on some great stuff here.
Saesee Tiin comes with a green lightsaber that comes apart in two pieces: the hilt and the blade. By now you probably know that we’re just not crazy about this lightsaber design. The peg that holds the blade to the hilt can easily break off into the hilt and you’ll be left with a blade that you can’t do anything with. It’s probably possible that if you were to somehow remove that broken (and extremely tiny) peg from the hilt you could glue it back onto the blade, but we have never had this success. And figures can fall over at any time in your collection. One fall forward (or back) could wreak certain disaster for his lightsaber. Saesee Tiin comes with a good amount of articulation. A ball-socket head is joined by ball-jointed shoulders and knees and then the rest of his joints are swivel articulated. Contrary to popular belief, Saesee Tiin is able to attain good amount of movement and looks fantastic in various action poses. He can be arranged in truly realistic action stances. And because of this, we’re quite proud to own him. An update with super-articulated will be needed at some point, but for now this figure is something you can enjoy in the meantime.
