Polis Massans are known throughout the galaxy for their extraordinary medical skills. They are compassionate and value freedom highly. Obi-Wan turns to this gifted species in a desperate attempt to save the life of a friend.

Every new Star Wars film has been great for introducing us to new alien species. And what’s somewhat interesting for Revenge Of The Sith is that we were actually introduced to a species that resembles the definition of what we define as “alien” (as in the Roswell aliens). We’re not trying to imply they look identical, but they have movement, eeriness and the way they carries themselves similarly to those we’ve seen in American folklore or even the X-Files franchise. The peaceful Polis Massans were sought out by Obi-Wan Kenobi in an effort to save Padmé Amidala from certain death. While empathetic to her needs, they communicated via the GH-7 Medical Droid and explained that their efforts to save her were in vain and that she was dying because she lost the will to live. Padmé Amidala was dying of a broken hear and nothing in the medical field could reverse this terrible emotional damage. Hasbro designed a Polis Massan action figure in the Revenge Of The Sith line and it was released relatively soon in the line. It is well sculpted and nicely painted. But we have to be honest and say we’re surprised to get a character like this before most of the clone trooper styles in the film.

The Polis Massan has a very thin frame, but Hasbro worked in an impressive 13 points of articulation. Along with this, Hasbro also included lovely accessories to accompany the figure as well. The Polis Massan comes with a removable head lamp, a blaster (which really wasn’t seen in the film) and a removable droid summoner that attaches via a hole on its shoulder. The figure has ball-jointed shoulders and ball-jointed ankles. Besides a ball-socket head, the rest of the figure includes swivel articulation. The figure is well proportioned and from what we can tell perfectly scaled to the characters in the film. Many of the Polis Massan look relatively identical and we believe Hasbro designed this figure to be generic, but based on source materials we have come across, this action figure could easily represent either Osh Scal or Dznori Xam (we can’t pronounce their names either). Some of the other Polis Massan are shorter and others wear different head coverings, so Hasbro has some other options to give us some nice variations of this figures sometime in the future.

Polis Massan is a very colorful action figure. His outfit is mostly teal with gold (but looks more greenish bronze on the figure) details and the costume has a patterned texture to it. There is a great amount of detail throughout the action figure. You can easily see a lot of time and effort went into making this figure as accurate to the source materials as possible. And the final action figure proves that Hasbro had good access to these source materials in order to successfully design the figure. While we’d love to see all figure updated with as much ball-jointed articulation as possible, this figure actually work well as is and we’ll be fine if Hasbro never updates it again (which is what we believe will happen). We’re most impressed with how faithfully Hasbro replicated the figure’s head sculpt. Granted, it’s a very simple design, but the way that the purple color from the back of the figure’s head subtly bleeds along the edges surrounding the mostly white face is exactly how it looks in the Polis Massans page entry in the Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith: The Visual Dictionary released in April 2005. The figure has a bizarre look, but it’s perfect for Star Wars.... and your collection!
