2011 - It's Down to Seven

Happy New Year again! A new year means a new category in our Research Droids Reviews! We delve into Medicom Toy's rich Real Action Heroes line and the first candidate is Anakin Skywalker as he appeared in Revenge Of The Sith. This ultra cool figure is so awesome we wish we bought two (not really). But be sure to check out these amazing Japanese one-sixth scale collectibles over the next few days! TARGET Getting Limited Additional Shipments Of Wave 3 Of TVC

Posted by Paul | December 31, 2010 at 01:23 PM ET |

While the fabulous Return Of The Jedi wave of The Vintage Collection seems to have disappeared in general making many of us worry, it appears that TARGET has been fortunate enough to get the last few shipments. We visited six local TARGET stores this morning and found wave 3 at 50% of these stores. TARGET may just be your last chance to score this brilliant wave.

Xanadu Blood Showing Up With Greater Frequency At Retail

Posted by Paul | December 31, 2010 at 12:48 PM ET |

There haven't been many (if any) reports we have seen online of the Xanadu Blood being found at retail. We're happy to report that in the nick of time, they have shown up at both Walmart and TARGET in limited quantities before the close of 2010. We hope it continues to ship in stronger numbers in 2011. But if you're looking for this cool repainted vehicle, now is the time to start hunting for it.

Know Where To Go For Optimal Star Wars Toys Savings!

Posted by Paul | December 31, 2010 at 12:36 PM ET |

We are slightly shocked how quickly the exclusive Star Wars product is disappearing off of shelves. There is little to nothing left in our local stores. But hopefully you have made out and found some great stuff on sale. Depending upon your area, there are still some great deals to be had. Some things to keep in mind if you trek out on New Year's Day to find some last of the sale stuff: Tomorrow is the last day to take advantage of TRU's buy 2 get one free Hasbro promotion (this includes those big exclusives like the Slave I and TVC AT-AT). And TARGET has many of their Fall 2010 exclusives on sale for between 30-50% off! Lastly, there are the recent reports of Walmart marking down Jabba's Throne and the Imperial TIE Bomber for $19.00. You just never know what you might find.

TRU Still Has Some TLC And LC Items On Clearance!

Posted by Paul | December 31, 2010 at 12:16 PM ET |

We are still unbelievably finding the 2008 TLC Dagger Squadron B-wing Fighter for pennies on the dollar, so cheap in fact that we're tempted to get four and create each member of the squadron! Ranging from $7.48 to $14.98 in the Philly area, if you happen to find this clearance item at your local TRU store, make the trip to the price scanner and see what you can score! Also available, but no so great a deal is 2009's LC TIE Interceptor for $39.98. In case you didn't know, this is the only place where you can get the "generic" all-black sans ace stripes TIE Interceptor (Fighter) Pilot.

Latest The Clone Wars Wave Becomes The Easiest To Locate!

Posted by Paul | December 31, 2010 at 12:10 PM ET |

TARGET, Walmart AND Toys R Us are inundated with the Quinlan Vos/Cata Parasitti wave. We all sweated small bullets over this wave and it appears as if it's one of the heaviest shipped waves yet! Be sure to go out and grab yours. These figures are excellent for the most part!

Review: Concept Boba Fett - TAC - No. 15

Posted by Paul | December 31, 2010 at 01:03 AM ET |

It's quite a claim to state that Concept Boba Fett is Hasbro's best action figure. Our opinion is firmly rooted in our thankfulness to Hasbro for making it for us. He may have been an inevitable action figure, but it was something else when he started showing up on pegs in April of 2007. We hope it's had a similar impact on you and you've had the opportunity to take in the amazing experience of purchasing it. Check out the last Research Droids Reviews entry of 2010 and be sure to add your input by voting! We need you votes! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Rebel Pilot Biggs Darklighter - TAC - No. 14

Posted by Paul | December 30, 2010 at 01:40 AM ET |

We finish out 2010 in our Research Droids Reviews with figures from (what we consider) the best wave of the 30 (77-07) line. Rebel Pilot Biggs Darklighter may not be the greatest action figure in the second wave of the 30 (77-07) line, but he's a big step up from the 1998 POTF2 figure. He is definitely due for an upgrade, but this figure should satiate us for a little while longer. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Han Solo - TAC - No. 11

Posted by Paul | December 29, 2010 at 01:35 AM ET |

We finish out 2010 in our Research Droids Reviews with figures from (what we consider) the best wave of the 30 (77-07) line. 2009 gave us a great Chewbacca (Millennium Falcon co-pilot), but two years earlier we first got Han Solo which is actually a great figure even though he is a slight step back from the 2004 VOTC Han Solo figure. Review: Luke Skywalker - TAC - No. 12

Posted by Paul | December 28, 2010 at 01:04 AM ET |

We finish out 2010 in our Research Droids Reviews with figures from (what we consider) the best wave of the 30 (77-07) line. We hate to love the next figure that we check out today, Luke Skywalker [in his ceremonial duds]. It's technically an awesome action figure, but suffers from a very rushed (and much too pale) paint job. Please Hasbro, will you reissue this figure with a healthy skin tone soon? It will go nicely with the upcoming Han Solo (ceremony) figure in February's fifth The Vintage Collection wave! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Posted by Paul | December 25, 2010 at 01:25 AM ET |

Gentle Giant Ltd. unintentionally let down Premier Guild Members for the holidays this year due to unforeseen production delays of the Padmé Amidala Holiday Edition mini bust (now coming in January 2011). Fortunately, they were able to get the "also delayed" 2-1B (Surgical Droid) mini bust in time for Christmas (it was supposed to be a summer convention exclusive) and Research Droids Reviews looks at it in great detail. Due to the overwhelming response and positive feedback, we are bringing back Q&A With JTA this January. (Do we really need to take something away in order for you guys to respond?) As usual, if you have questions about anything, please send them our way. The format may change a little bit and we're going to be including fewer questions in each session, but let's see how it goes this time around. Anything can change. Thank you for your interest in this popular column; just please participate so we can keep it going strong! Thank you! Feel free to send questions now, but we will be posting a separate request for this in a few weeks.

Padmé Amidala, Commander Faie and Fox PGM Mini Busts All Delayed

Posted by Paul | December 18, 2010 at 09:29 PM ET |

Gentle Giant, Ltd. has sent out communications to Premier Guild Members that the 2010 Padmé Amidala Holiday Mini Bust as well as the Commander Faie and Commander Fox mini busts have all been delayed until January 2011. This is sure to upset some collectors. As a gesture, Gentle Giant, Ltd. has extended membership through January 31, 2011. But what does that mean for next year's enrollement is what we want to know! Will it always be in February for those that enroll every year?

Peek-A-Boo! We See You....Now! Packaging Variation: Cato Parasitti

Posted by Paul | December 18, 2010 at 04:51 PM ET |

JTA has just discovered a packaging variation for the Cato Parasitti figure and we haven't seen this reported anywhere yet, so we're taking credit for it. (We're only being funny.) Hitting stores in high numbers right this second, it appears Hasbro wanted to show off her beautiful mess of a face. (And they should because it's an incredible paint job. Read our review HERE if you haven't yet.) For skeptics who think that this helmet just flipped up: YOU'RE WRONG! There is a newly revised bubble which "blocks" and prevents it from falling back down to cover her face and we found about 5 others like this at Toys R Us right next to this sample. We honestly don't care about packaging variations, but many of our readers do, so here you go! Click through for some highly detailed shots!

Toys R Us Gouges Customers And Makes Normal Retail The Sale Price!

Posted by Paul | December 18, 2010 at 12:04 PM ET |

Toys R Us spreads holiday cheer by marking up The Vintage Collection to $10.99 each and then puts them on sale 20% off to make them normal retail what Walmart and TARGET is selling them for (althought they are currently cheaper as low as $6.00 because of their sales). What makes it worse is that they haven't received anything beyond a few shipments of the Revenge Of The Sith wave. Perhaps Hasbro is being passive aggressive and not sending them as many shipments. We'd like to think so, at least until TRU can get the greed out of their hearts and sell these figures for a fair price! (As you can see we're very irritated over their prices.) Click through to see more. But after this sale is over, we are recommending a TRU boycott, but more on that later.

Cato Parasitti And Quinlan Vos Wave Hitting Extremely Hard At Toys R Us

Posted by Paul | December 18, 2010 at 11:52 AM ET |

JTA is thrilled to report that Wave 5 of The Clone Wars line is hitting extremely hard almost every store we visited this morning. Of particular note, Toys R Us, while raking us over the coals with an unacceptable price hike to $8.49 each, has them on sale two for $9.99. We found 8 cases up on the shelves so it seems many should profit from this sale. Just get out there! Click through to see more. But after this sale is over, we are recommending a TRU boycott, but more on that later.

Review: Mustafar Lava Miner - TAC - No. 03

Posted by Paul | December 16, 2010 at 01:25 AM ET |

It's amazing how so many of the background characters from the films get treated like they're royalty in the basic figure line. The Mustafar Lava Miner (which technically isn't the correct name or designation for him) is the focus of today's Research Droids Reviews and we hope we can persuade you that this is a figure that is necessary for your collection, even if he is in a pre-posed action stance. (It works for him, trust us!) Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! The True Origins Of Darth Vader And C-3PO?

Posted by Paul | December 15, 2010 at 07:04 PM ET |

CollectorsWeekly.com has posted a fascinating article about two 1800s smoke helmets and how they bear an uncanny resemblance to the Star Wars characters Darth Vader and C-3PO. The resemblance is so strong that some historical collectors believe George Lucas' designers used them as inspiration for Darth Vader and C-3PO. The biggest clue? One well-known manufacturer was called Vajen-Bader. Click through to learn more! Again, this is a fascinating article, we suggest you check it out!

Review: Mace Windu - TAC - No. 06

Posted by Paul | December 15, 2010 at 01:05 AM ET |

Mace Windu from the 30 (77-07) line is pretty cool if you don't "play" with him. But if you're looking for incredible flexibility with all of his included articulation points, well, you may be left unhappy. Research Droids Reviews discovers Mace Windu is indeed likeable, but just not a definitive version of him. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! The Vintage Collection E2 Obi-Wan Kenobi Changed?

Posted by Paul | December 13, 2010 at 12:04 PM ET |

Famed eBay seller tunghori has The Vintage Collection Attack Of The Clones Obi-Wan Kenobi available for purchase also. Of particular note, it seems that either Hasbro has forgone the repaint or these are samples that missed the final paint touches. Click HERE (scroll all the way down) to see the carded samples Hasbro presented to us which clearly shows Obi-Wan Kenobi with a yellow undershirt and some different detailing in the brown colors. It also appears that there has been a new cut made for his Jedi robe as the drape and hang are different as well.

Raise Your Children To Not Be Bullies Please!

Posted by Paul | December 09, 2010 at 11:01 PM ET |

As Star Wars collectors, we sometimes fall out of the mainstream of popularity. But since we're adults (for the most part) we can deal with teasing we may get from our friends and acquaintances. But what about when you're an innocent young child? We came across a sad story (but with a happy ending) of a sweet young girl who has been bullied for being a girl who likes Star Wars thanks to JTA reader Richard. Parents of children: raise your children to embrace and respect those with differences or those that may seem "weird" on the outside. And love one another! Click through to read this great story.

Review: Invasion Of Utapau - SW [SOTDS] - Battle Packs

Posted by Paul | December 09, 2010 at 01:15 AM ET |

Blame JTA for the disaster that is the Invasion Of Utapau Battle Packs set. Of course it is quite pious of us to assume that we gave Hasbro the idea for this Battle Packs multipack, but perhaps it is because pride comes before the fall that the final result is just about the worst "realistic style" Battle Packs we have ever received. Research Droids Reviews rips the Invasion Of Utapau set a new one and while we do our best to remain positive in the reviews, it was simply impossible to do so for this release. Make TVC Return Of The Jedi Wave Your Mission

Posted by Paul | December 08, 2010 at 11:11 AM ET |

May we suggest that if you see the Return Of The Jedi wave of The Vintage Collection at retail that you pick it up immediately? Entertainment Earth is completely SOLD OUT of all 11 case assortments that they had on pre-order. And to be clear, their definition of SOLD OUT is as follows: "This item is sold out and no longer available to order. We do not expect any further shipments of this item and are keeping it on our website for informational purposes only." When Entertainment Earth runs out of stock, that's a pretty good indication that the product is drying up. We don't expect other online retailers to have stock for much longer either. This wave must have exceeded Hasbro's and retail's projected sales numbers because as much as we saw this wave in stores, the figures just aren't hanging on the pegs at all. Don't miss one of the greatest waves of figures Hasbro has ever done! It would be egregious!

The Vintage Collection Wooof [Klaatu] Error Found

Posted by Paul | December 04, 2010 at 02:38 PM ET |

There have been a few errors hitting the pegs lately. (If you haven't seen the latest and craziest error, check out Yakface.com's recent article HERE.) We just came across an unpunched Wooof figure that is missing his bandolier. Ever since those awful Mandalorian box sets were released by Entertainment Earth in 2007 (the absolute worst exclusives we have ever bought - after the Crimson Empire box set of course), collectors (in general) have been gun shy with any Mandalorian focused collectible released after them. Well, Research Droids Reviews discovers a reason to get excited about "generic" Mandalorians again because the Montross/Jaster Mereel (also an Entertainment Earth exclusive ironically) Comic Packs set is just incredible! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Don't forget we accept requests so e-mail us and be sure to vote in our poll at the bottom of the review with your opinion before leaving!
