Review: Battle-Damaged Darth Vader - TLC - GH 3

Posted by Paul | March 01, 2016 at 12:25 AM ET |

The Greatest Hits subset of figures in The Legacy Collection's first wave was short-lived, and Hasbro began incorporating "extra" figures like this with the BD (instead of the GH) designation after the initial four. Check out why the Battle-Damaged Darth Vader was a perfect addition to this line in our Research Droids Reviews today! Big Changes In Our Hardback Novel Collecting Guide!

Posted by Chuck | February 29, 2016 at 12:15 PM ET |

Our Hardback Novel guide was in need of a major overhaul since the release of the Canon novels. With the release of so many post-Return of the Jedi stories in the new canon timeline, it was hard to fit them into the timeline with the post-Return of the Jedi Legends stories. We have now broken our guide up into three sections, hopefully making it easier (and clearer) to follow for those interested in keeping track for their collections. Stop by and have a look at the changes!

TFA Comes Up Empty Handed At The 88th Academy Awards

Posted by Mike_Taber | February 29, 2016 at 11:11 AM ET |

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was nominated in five categories, but ended up with zero wins. The Force Awakens lost to Mad Max: Fury Road in three categories and Ex Machina in the visual effects category. C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB-8 made an appearance to honor John Williams' 50th Oscar nomination though. Williams came up short in the highly competitive Best Original Score category. Iconic composer Ennio Morricone received his first, and long overdue, Oscar for his work on The Hateful Eight. Even though The Force Awakens didn't take home any awards, I want to congratulate the cast and crew on their nominations. Regardless of your feelings towards the film, it's clear that a lot of care went into making it. To the cast and crew of The Force Awakens, congratulations on your nominations and thank you for taking us back to a galaxy far, far away.

Huffington Post: "Even More Hope For A Gay 'Star Wars' Romance"

Posted by Paul | February 27, 2016 at 10:52 PM ET |

The Huffington Post attempts to light the internet on fire with an article that focuses on JJ Abrams and his feelings about introducing gay characters into the Star Wars films. While more is developed in the article too, JJ Abrams states that Star Wars now is about inclusivity (does this mean instead of exclusivity?) so it would make sense that these types of characters have always been there and is open to the idea of introducing them as such. (Does this also mean that Star Wars is definitely not about a great universal story anymore and just agenda? – The Force Awakens seems to support this thought already in many ways.) Needless to say, after quickly skimming through some of the heated comments and exchanges already posted, I couldn't help but notice a quote from a gay man who wrote (more....)

Unkar Plutt: More Than Meets The Eye!

Posted by Paul | February 26, 2016 at 08:44 PM ET |

If you read our review and participated in the discussion in the comments for Unkar Plutt, you may have noticed a comment from a very important person revealed a special feature that was worked into the figure as an Easter egg to give a nod to a scene in the novel. Well, this is the deal. Unkar Plutt's swivel right forearm is removable and in its place you can attach the Build A Weapon part which helps put this novel storyline together. Pretty cool! It's always great to know the backstories to these action figures! Keep 'em coming! Check out the revised gallery and review HERE!

UPDATE: We have also learned from one of our Facebook readers that a supposed deleted scene exists where Chewbacca rips off Unkar's arm!

More The Black Series Six Inch Finds, This Time In Virginia

Posted by Chuck | February 26, 2016 at 02:42 PM ET |

JTA reader Dana has the latest The Black Series finds from today in Richmond, VA. Thanks for letting us know!

I just stopped by a local Walmart and found great success with the 6 inch black series. Along with what I purchased there was another flametrooper and a tie fighter pilot. The 3.75" figures were almost completely sold out of even the peg-warmers, which I hope means they are getting more stock soon. Oh, and the Jango rang up for $18.92 compared to $19.84 for each of the other figures.

Store reports are still pouring in on the latest figure finds. This time, Brett from Illinois writes in with his The Black Series and Build A Weapon figure finds...

I look at your site everyday for updates and new finds throughout the country. I wanted to share a couple of my finds this week. Since Tuesday I have found two 3.75" Rey resistance outfit figures, three 6" Captain Phasma black series figures, a 6" Han Solo black series and 6" Jango Fett black series. I found them at Target's and Walgreens. I will keep everyone posted with my finds in Illinois. Thank you. -Brett

Latest Three Waves Of Build A Weapon Figures Hitting Across USA!

Posted by Paul | February 25, 2016 at 09:07 AM ET |

The Princeton NJ Walmart on Route 1 has received their first new batch of figures since November today and I was fortunate enough to find the Finn (FN-2187) wave. We are also getting reports from many of our readers that the other two waves including Nien Nunb and Admiral Ackbar are also hitting. The sweetest thing about these new finds is that they are ringing up for $6.94 each which is on average $1 cheaper than most everywhere else these figures can be found. Good luck and let us know of your successful store reports!

The Latest Build A Weapon Cases Showing Up As Wave 1

JTA reader Chris sends in a helpful observation for those still looking for the latest Build A Weapon figures. The moral is, if you see an unopened case of figures, always check it out! Thanks for the tip Chris!

Something I noticed on a fresh case of Old Han/Resistance Rey today at Target in west Texas was that it was designated as Wave 1 and not the appropriate Wave number. I don't if others have seen this but I wanted to mention it in case people see Wave 1 boxes and don't open them.

NYTF Hasbro: The Yellow Dot Group Interview

Posted by Paul | February 18, 2016 at 10:10 AM ET |

At Toy Fair this year, Hasbro divided the fan sites by yellow and green dots. Green dots meant you got to go to the showroom first and yellow dots meant you got to interview Hasbro first. JTA was part of the green dot group (hear our audio of the interview HERE) so we missed the yellow dot interview. Ultimate Toy Collector has just a portion of this interview on video, but you can check it out here starting at 21:30. Special thanks to friend Steve U. for alerting us to this video.

No More Banana Yellow Visors, Lenses Or Goggles!

Posted by Paul | February 16, 2016 at 01:14 PM ET |

Our own darthmo Photoshopped this image to illustrate the easy way Hasbro might take addressing the wrong color lenses on Maz Kanata's goggles. But you can rest assured that Hasbro designer Steve Evans, who mentioned during the Hasbro presentation at Toy Fair that he spit out his Froot Loops (while coming across this image on our site), said that it's a lesson learned and we can expect to not see "banana yellow" visors/glasses from here on out! Good news indeed!

Star Wars Tsum Tsum Collection Now At DisneyStore.com!

Posted by Paul | February 16, 2016 at 12:40 PM ET |

The Tsum Tsum collection of Star Wars figures are now available at DisneyStore.com. Special thanks to our friends at Yakface.com for the alert!

At Toy Fair this year, the Droid Factory/Build A Droid concept was brought up again. And it was made crystal clear that Hasbro could STILL make them and that the ones at Disney are a totally different product with different sculpts (in case you didn't know this already). During the Q&A at Toy Fair, Hasbro loosely alluded to the idea that discussions were had surrounding bringing this back possibly in some sort of exclusive program (where they are multipacks of pre-assembled Build A Droid figures and not the pack-in premium we're used to in the past) and that we should stay tuned. Almost three years ago, after running on the steam of the brilliant 2012 SW [TPM 3D] Royal Starship Droid Battle Packs set (which uses four Build A Droid sculpts), JTA worked up this article which over 3400 readers saw and received over 100 comments, let's see if we can double that this time. So make your opinions known. Now that we know Hasbro is reading, this is your chance to voice your opinions and wishes for what you want to see if this concept is brought back again (and we have a good feeling about this). Droid-focused blogs and Facebook pages like The Astromech Collection and The Bad Motivator, please get your readers here and have them post their opinions and wants. (more....)

NY Toy Fair: Hasbro Round Table Interview Session Audio

Posted by Paul | February 14, 2016 at 04:35 PM ET |

There were a great number of changes this year in the format of the Hasbro Toy Fair presentation and in general the event was organized extremely well. But with change comes some discomfort. One of the more uncomfortable changes this year was the "round table" interview session. For the first time that I can remember we weren't granted one-on-one interaction with the Star Wars brand Hasbro team, which I felt was very unfortunate (and something we're going to express to Hasbro). I felt I couldn't press for the answers I needed. Instead, we sat in a group and spouted off our questions. (Maybe that was cleverly planned.) Click through for more.

JTA Visits Star Wars and the Power of Costume: The Exhibition

Posted by Chuck | February 14, 2016 at 04:33 PM ET |

Discovery Times Square reached out to Jedi Temple Archives for a special invite and to see if we would cover the Star Wars and The Power of Costume: The Exhibition being held there. So we did. The displays were simply stunning, and the path through the stunning visuals offers a close interaction with actual Star Wars costumes and props that only can be appreciated while seeing them live in person. Most of us will never get this close to these costumes again. Click through for a complete gallery of the costumes we saw, and be sure to keep it here as Discovery Times Square is going to be providing an exclusive coupon code for any of our readers who want to visit the exhibit sometime in the future. You have some time as the exhibit will be open until September 5, 2016.

The Vintage Collection Isn't Returning? What, Are You Nuts?

Posted by Paul | February 13, 2016 at 06:39 PM ET |

With any rumor report we post, there is always a [small] risk that it could be simply just that.... a rumor. We hope our readers know that in general we have some pretty hefty sources out there. We don't get our rumored information from Hasbro, so we never understood why everyone ran to Hasbro to confirm or deny our rumors. And then the gloating that would transpire after they said "no" because they weren't ready to talk about it. Either way, that's neither here nor there. Despite playing coy the last couple of events, Hasbro has said today, and I quote them, "the return of The Vintage Collection is not a matter of if but when." They know how badly we want to see its return and they will work with Lucasfilm for an optimal time to see its re-release. People asked supplemental questions like about its format (whether the figures will come super-articulated or simply articulated) and quite honestly, both methods have been discussed. They did say that they would like to keep it a super-articulated format. We're thinking the 40th anniversary of a very special Star Wars film may be a perfect time to rebirth this glorious collection of action figures. Stay tuned! "Tell your sister, JTA was right."

UPDATE: Don't blame Hasbro for the five points of articulation in TVC thought. That was the other fan sites who suggested that. We rebuke that notion wholly and will fight for super-articulation ONLY.

Is The Star Wars Toy Line Inadvertently Being Sabotaged?

Posted by Paul | February 09, 2016 at 11:29 AM ET |

Is the collector-focused Star Wars line sabotaged? Is Hasbro's toy line in general always going to be like an upstream battle? Are we being told what we should like? Yeah, that sounds about right in this day and age. (more....)

eBay Seller tunghori's Store and Auctions Suddenly Show Up Empty

Posted by Chuck | February 09, 2016 at 08:20 AM ET |

JTA viewer Alientek has pointed out that long time eBay seller tunghori's store has become suddenly empty, as well as his auctions. For years tunghori has brought hard-to-find loose figures and newly revealed figures to collectors, usually at reasonable prices. Does this mean he's finally been shut down? We'll have to keep an eye on his store to see if it fills back up or disappears altogether.

Titanium May Have Returned To The Star Wars Line, But These Haven't!

Posted by Paul | February 08, 2016 at 09:51 PM ET |

JTA reader Jason A. sends us an image of a very old item showing up at his local NJ Walmart. This figure is from the Revenge Of The Sith/The Saga Collection era and the line was cancelled rather abruptly. They are 3.75" scaled die-cast metal figures. They were quite nice, but the line was sadly unsuccessful. I asked Jason what the UPC looked like (if it had been manipulated in some fashion) but I haven't heard back from him yet. Usually when product this old arrives at retail is usually just another complex case of theft.

More Reasons To Loathe Walmart - As If There Weren't Enough Already

Posted by Paul | February 08, 2016 at 09:44 PM ET |

It's old news that third party vendors are selling stuff on Walmart.com. But it REALLY becomes salt in the wound when it is Walmart's own exclusives getting scalped by these other sellers. JTA reader Gavin B. had to share this disturbing image with us.

TFA Set To Cross $2 Billion At Worldwide Box Office

Posted by Mike_Taber | February 05, 2016 at 03:49 PM ET |

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will reportedly pass the $900 million mark at the domestic box office and the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box office this weekend. The Force Awakens will become just the third film to pass $2 billion in sales. Two James Cameron directed films, Avatar and Titanic, are the only other films to reach that milestone. Although The Force Awakens is running roughly $140 million ahead of Avatar at the domestic box office, it will be virtually impossible to pass Avatar's $2.7 billion global haul (and likely take a re-release to come close). Variety has the full story

The Vintage Collection: Magnificent, Unwavering And Astounding

Posted by Paul | February 05, 2016 at 11:23 AM ET |

There is an unstoppable aftermarket force when it comes to The Vintage Collection – the greatest Hasbro invention ever. And it is becoming overwhelming. Some of the most common figures that peg-warmed during its original run are commanding ridiculous amounts of money and ones that were hot at their release are nearly untouchable if you're interested in purchasing them today. Check out just what some eBayers are getting for these modern classic gems. It makes us wonder if this collection will one day compete with the actual vintage Kenner line from 1978-1985, because right now some of the TVC are more expensive than the figures from the 70s and 80s.... carded too! And now that we know that Hasbro doesn't have access to all of their older and recent sculpts, we may NEVER see many of these masterpieces again.

We Need A The Black Series Six-Inch Greatest Hits Assortment....

Posted by Paul | February 03, 2016 at 09:27 PM ET |

One of our readers directed our attention to what The Black Series [Phase I] Anakin Skywalker figure is commanding on the aftermarket. We personally never saw this wave hit retail, but we're just as shocked at what it's selling for on eBay. There are so many figures Hasbro needs to reissue in this line. It's definitely time to release a "greatest hits" case assortment out on the market to help kill these aftermarket prices.

Thankfully, it looks like Hasbro has truly crafted a nice collectors' item and I hope the line succeeds. JTA Canadian reader Daniel McG. found these in Montreal Quebec today.

Hasbro Doesn't Set The Prices, So Walmart Will Rollforward!

Posted by Paul | February 03, 2016 at 08:21 AM ET |

We told you that Walmart was the worst retailer to get an online or brick and mortar exclusive collector line. We even told Hasbro the same thing. Despite Hasbro assuaging us that Walmart knew what they had in this exclusive line and were ready to take it on full throttle, we don't see the fruits of any labors paying off now. Many of our reader have yet to see this line at all, and many others haven't see anything past wave 1. Now that new figures are arriving in select stores and online, people are taking advantage of the line's scarcity... including WALMART! Now, we know that third party sellers are scalping these figures right under Walmart's nose (on the same product page), but it seems that Walmart doesn't want to miss any of this action and have now upped the prices of their own exclusive line as high as threefold on some figures. This is what WALMART was selling Rey for a few hours ago (prices fluctuate all the time). This isn't a third party seller. Will this never end? Thanks to the many of you who wrote in upset about this.

Our Recent TBS6 Rumor Reports Reveal Future Rogue One Figures?

Posted by Paul | February 01, 2016 at 08:37 AM ET |

Remember our recent BREAKING NEWS reports (HERE and HERE) on upcoming The Black Series figures and how there was a portion on each that had code names? SPOILER WARNING! MakingStarWars.net has posted "code names" for characters in Rogue One and they match almost word for word what our rumor list has provided. It looks as if these "ambiguously named" future TBS6 figures are indeed from Rogue One! It will be interesting to see how all this changes since Rogue One was pushed out until the end of the year. Special thanks to JTA friend Adam H. for directing our attention to this article! We also now don't expect Hasbro to talk much or acknowledge these figures at Toy Fair this year.
