Review: Luke Skywalker (In X-wing Fighter Gear) - Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | March 29, 2013 at 08:14 AM ET |

Gentle Giant Ltd. seemed to have better success making human likenesses on their older Mini Busts as compared to their modern ones. Luke Skywalker (In X-wing Fighter Gear) is a perfect example of this. See our anakysis in our Research Droids Reviews today. Click through for our Research Droids Reviews recap and see what recent reviews you may have missed,

If you are still on the hunt for the final wave of The Clone Wars figures, it looks like these are not getting any cheaper. The prices individually have steadly gone up on both Amazon.com and eBay. However, if you are looking to score the entire set (and a few extras) they can be had for around $17 each after shipping if you buy by the case right here on Amazon.com. That's a far cry from some of the prices these are demanding individually! These are still offered at some overseas etailers too, so check all of your options before purchasing!

Review: Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) - Mini Bust

Posted by Paul | March 25, 2013 at 11:21 AM ET |

The Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) Mini Bust is a mess. It's intended to be Luke Skywalker from Episode VI, but it's actually something you'd see him look like in the Expanded Universe instead. Are you aware of this? Learn about it in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight)

If you read Adam Pawlus' Q&A at GalacticHunter.com this morning, you probably read about the "greatest hits' wave of The Vintage Collection and where it is. Spoiler: he believes it probably isn't happening. After considering this, I realized that we all should have figured this out a while ago. See what I mean by clicking through.

Posted by Chuck | March 24, 2013 at 09:16 PM ET |

Ki-Adi-Mundi is part of the massive attack to destroy a Geonosis factory churning out dangerous new battle droids. Damaged by enemy fire, the Jedi's transport crashes short of the designated landing point. As he pushes forward, Ki-Adi-Mundi and his squad enter a cave where they are attacked by Geonosian drones. Review: Emperor Palpatine (Executor Transmission) - OTC - SWS.com

Posted by Paul | March 24, 2013 at 12:31 AM ET |

Emperor Palpatine (Executor Transmission)

Who's more foolish? The vendor that won't bail struggling retail out by replacing peg-warmers with new product or the retailer who would rather cut its nose to spite its face than discount these items that will NEVER sell under normal retail or sale conditions? I can't help but metaphorically shake angry fists at both local Hasbro reps and this particular Toys R Us in Philly who are either playing a game of chicken with the horrid stock of TVC figures its had since 2010, or they just are so aloof that it has no bearing on them. Look at this madness! Oh, and yes, there were some TPM figures there too: all Qui-Gon Jinns and one or two others.

As we celebrate 1400 Research Droids Reviews today (we don't even know how that's possible), we are ecstatic to present to you what is easily one of the finest high-end collectibles ever produced by Sideshow Collectibles. Forget about what you think you know about the 501st Legion. What Hasbro and even other high-end licenses have done for this character are at best mockeries when compared to this work of art. If you want to see the absolute greatest collectible representation of the 501st Legion from Revenge Of The Sith, then please take time to peruse the Clone Trooper (501st Legion: Vader's Fist) Life Size Bust from Sideshow Collectibles. 32 photos and commentary await you. Review: Asajj Ventress - Life Size Bust

Posted by Paul | March 22, 2013 at 06:33 AM ET |

It's extremely rare to find a collectible of a realistic interpretation of Asajj Ventress as she appeared in The Clone Wars, but Sideshow Collectibles came through in the form of a "life size" scale piece. Posted by Paul | March 21, 2013 at 06:23 AM ET |

An animated Battle Droid that can hold a droid blaster with BOTH hands? Yup! This really is the best animated Battle Droid action figure available. If Hasbro could have just remembered to use legs from another figure they had in their parts warehouse, this figure would have been definitive. See what we mean in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Wicket - OTC - OTC #17

Posted by Paul | March 19, 2013 at 07:42 AM ET |

If you had to choose one figure that looked blatantly dated in The Original Trilogy Collection, you'd probably pick Wicket. Good for representing the OT, but not good for aesthetics or articulation, see why we think a totally different candidate may have worked better in the line in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: R2-D2 - OTC - OTC #12

Posted by Paul | March 18, 2013 at 09:16 AM ET |

It probably can be said that except for a few scene-specific "outfit changes" that R2-D2 looks the same both in the Prequel and Original Trilogy. Check out the 2004 flavor (based on a 2000 sculpt) in our Research Droids Reviews on this figure today. Starting out life as an Episode I interpreation, Hasbro used the figure again to represent its appearance from Episdoe IV. You'll want to pay attention to this one! Keep in mind that these are STILL NOT the "greatest hits" TVC assortments.

We once saw on a fan site how to put the 2010 SW [SOTDS]/The Vintage Collection Imperial AT-AT back into the box. It was almost like an online manual. A reader of ours needs this tool so he can disassemble his and pack it away for moving. If you are aware of this online source, could you email usplease with a link? Thank you!

Thank goodness for our News Archives, because JTA reader John M.S. came across this post a year after the fact and writes in with the answer! Click through for his very helpful information!

Sideshow Cancels C-3PO Life Size Bust 2.0!

Posted by Paul | March 06, 2013 at 05:25 PM ET |

If you recall, during the summer of 2011, Sideshow Collectibles showed off a second version of the C-3PO Life-Size Bust. The link to this article is HERE. This second interpretation of C-3PO was to sport a shiny and clean finish as compared to the Tatooine-battered first version. We have just learned that Sideshow Collectibles has cancelled production on the second version. They were unable to replicate the finish that they advertised so ultimately had to cancel the piece. Many collectors were hoping to secure this piece with the second version since the first piece has been sold out for a while now and only available on Wait List. With only 750 pieces made, if you're interested in this collectible, click HERE to place your Wait List order. What a shame. We were really looking forward to a clean version of C-3PO. And it's not often that Sideshow Collectibles ever cancels an officially announced item like this! If you need to be persuaded, check out our full gallery of this beautiful piece in our Research Droids Reviews right HERE.

Review: Lando Calrissian - OTC - OTC #32

Posted by Paul | March 06, 2013 at 05:52 AM ET |

One of the finest figures from 2004 is Lando Calrissian, a figure you had two opportunities to purchase in two different packaging styles. But one line look is a lot better than the other. Besides, Lando received slightly tighter paint operations the second time around too. See what we're talking about in our Research Droids Reviews today. Walmart Puts The New Hasbro Twelve Inch On Clearance Already?

Posted by Paul | March 05, 2013 at 05:31 PM ET |

Of course Murphy's Law would work against me as I find a potentially "breaking" news story, so I am going to need our reader's help for confirmation. (I left my cell phone at home today so I couldn't snap visual proof.) To my "expected" surprise, I found the new 12" figures on clearance at my local Walmart for $10.00 flat. Any Walmart price ending in "00" means clearance price, or it has in the past. (Every other Hasbro item ended in .96.) If I remember correctly, I thought the price of these were $12.96. If anyone out there can help confirm that this is true in their area too, please let us know!

Review: TIE Fighter Pilot - OTC - OTC #21

Posted by Paul | March 05, 2013 at 06:06 AM ET |

Do you need your TIE Fighter Pilot to be super-articulated, or just able to sit in the seat of a cockpit? That is probably the best way to assess this figure. Review: IG-88 - OTC - OTC #27

Posted by Paul | March 04, 2013 at 06:16 AM ET |

Hasbro had some difficulty making modern IG-88 action figures look much different than the 1980 Kenner figure. But that's because the vintage Kenner figure was such a great action figure. The obvious choice to repackage for The Original Trilogy Collection was a figure from 2000's Power Of The Jedi line. It's the topic of our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Hasbro: "Too Bad, So Sad"

Posted by Paul | March 02, 2013 at 07:42 PM ET |

It's hard to believe we have reached an era with regards to our Hasbro Star Wars collecting that an image like this (see it after clicking through) is such a sight for sore eyes. A "brand new" wave of figures with lots of new parts but repeat characters is hardly something that would suck the air out of the room, but that's how starved the USA market has become for good (and new) product at retail. Before you get too excited, this image is from Canada, but we thank JTA reader Jamie D. for rubbing it in nonetheless. :)

Review: Greedo - OTC - OTC #22

Posted by Paul | March 02, 2013 at 05:52 AM ET |

Review: C-3PO - OTC - OTC #13

Posted by Paul | March 01, 2013 at 05:58 AM ET |

What a fine figure the Millennium Minted Coin C-3PO figure is. It's so good that Hasbro reissued C-3PO in The Original Trilogy Collection. But are you aware of its roots? We lay it all out in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.
