The Black Series

Today I take a quick look at the aftermarket for Star Wars action figures. For this I focus entirely on TVC 2.0 and (mostly) recent Black Series figures that were released since the launch of TVC 2.0. And to make things somewhat comparable, I focused on figures that have a release in both TVC 2.0 and TBS. I didn’t look up all the TVC 2.0 / TBS releases, this is outside the scope of this article, but I think even a quick look at 18 TVC and 18 TBS figures on ebay can still tell us a thing or two about the aftermarket! So click through for more!

Gamestop will get yet another “Gaming Greats” Black Series figure. This time it is a Stormtrooper Commander from Force Unleashed with some battle damage and blue deco. Which means this is a legends figure, technically speaking. The photo was posted on Reddit, the figure should be available in North America very soon. Canada has a confirmed release date of March 1st! The US will probably not be far behind and other territories will certainly get the figure as well.
Hasbro is really making the most of their Original Trilogy Stormtrooper sculpt. Will you add this latest paint variant to your collection? Do you think more Force Unleashed figures may follow? What about a 6 inch scale Starkiller figure? And: why did Hasbro not reveal this figure at toy fair when the release is imminent? Thanks to “Cadesky” for the alert!

Photo Of Black Series Baby Yoda In The Box Has Leaked

A photo of the Black Series Baby Yoda, officially “The Child”, has appeared on Twitter. And in true leaker guild fashion the photo was taken by a potato camera. So you can barely see anything, but it appears to be the real deal! Thanks to Steven U for the alert!

The Black Series Zorii Bliss Figure Has A Removable Visor!

Hasbro Pulse revealed on Facebook that the upcoming Black Series Zorii Bliss action figure comes with a special feature: you can actually remove the visor to reveal Zorii’s eyes behind the mask! Now the question is if Hasbro sculpted more of the face or just the eyes and part of the nose. I suppose someone will certainly destroy the helmet of their Zorii Bliss figure to find out. Click on the photo below for the full resolution version! The photo real eyes look really nice. Thanks to Cybereye for the alert!

Purge Stormtrooper Box Variant Found!

Info about a rare Purge Stormtrooper box variant has appeared on the German Star Wars Figuren forum. The box doesn’t have the multilingual short biography on the back, but instead all five blurbs just repeat the English text. What is it with Hasbro and their various errors on Black Series boxes recently? Luke Skywalkwer anyone? Good luck hunting down the box variant and selling it for one million dollars on eBay! Let us know if you found it or maybe even have it in your collection!

The Black Series Sith Trooper Found in the US!

The regular release of the Rise of Skywalker Sith trooper has been found in the Disney Springs shopping center in Florida. Thanks to Darren V. from Facebook for the photo. It appears that it comes with two of the blasters that were in the SDCC exclusive release. I’m interested to see the card art for the Vintage Collection version. Will you be army building this trooper? Let us know in the comments!

What Do You Want For Force Friday And Beyond?

We’re in somewhat of a lull at the moment. Most figures Hasbro have already finished are still under a Disney embargo and nothing official is known. We do know that on Triple Force Friday we will definitly get figures for The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian and the Fallen Order video game. So let’s talk about what you expect, what you hope for and what you want! Both for TVC and TBS! And let’s speculate also if there will be any (Force Link) 3.75 in 5 POA figures at all, because so far there are exactly zero rumors about the latter. So click through for a discussion!

Even if she had only 10 seconds of screentime, I want that figure for TBS! (click for much larger version)

The Black Series Pet Peeves

Make no mistake, we have come quite a long way in the 6 inch Black Series action figure line. The line is undoubtebly at its best now in 2018, finally. Photoreal was a game changer. However, after 5 1/2 years some things have not changed, and some things could be addressed by Hasbro and improved upon. What things? Click through for my list of Black Series pet peeves.

Show Your Star Wars Collection

Here on JTA we discuss all things Star Wars, we argue about which action figure line is the best, we criticize Hasbro for repacks and at least some of us love to moan about the sequel trilogy.

But let’s talk about what we love: our Star Wars collection. We discuss action figures all day here on JTA – but we rarely get to see what you actually collect. So I thought it would be a good idea to create the opportunity to show everyone what you collect. (more…)
