Where Do You Stand With The Vintage Collection Reissues?

Frustrated collectors often joke about how many repeat action figures we’re getting in The Vintage Collection. It’s become a chronic issue, that many are relabeling the second coming of The Vintage Collection as “The Repack Collection.” Yet, there is a great divide in opinion on how beneficial these repacks are. Getting decade-old action figures updated with Photo Real is a huge benefit in my eyes. And many of the action figures Hasbro chooses to re-release are classics, and I feel deserve another stab at retail. (more….)

The issue is that fans of The Vintage Collection “2.0” are getting dragged through two sets of repacks. The first set of figures are characters never released in The Vintage Collection, but in past lines like any of the past 3.75″ The Black Series line, or The Legacy Collection, etc. They’re all repacks, but they’re also “NEW” for The Vintage Collection. On top of the figures in this “FIRST SUBSET” of repacks is another SUBSET. Hasbro is also re-releasing past The Vintage Collection figures from the original run (2010-2013) with the aforementioned deco updates, but with the original VCXX number.

The images directly above reflect all of the repacks we’ve received from the original run of The Vintage Collection. And we’re not done yet. Before we get ANY BRAND NEW figures in The Vintage Collection this year, we have another set of four REPACKS from the original TVC run including Darth Maul, Anakin Skywalker (The Clone Wars), Obi-Wan Kenobi (The Clone Wars), and Wicket. As much as I adore Ewoks and love the character, I will NEVER understand how Wicket won one of the exclusive slots as a repack. I can think of half a dozen of desperately-needed other characters that needed re-release before this one.

On top of eleven action figure repacks, Hasbro also re-released Boba Fett’s Slave I (also with major deco enhancements and few new other things packed along with it). It’s excellent to see a fantastic vehicle like this again, but when will we start receiving a steady stream of newness for the line? Hasbro can’t take advantage of our graciousness for too much longer. Collectors are becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of new offerings. That said, where do you stand with The Vintage Collection repacks. Are you happy to see them? Just some of them? Or are you buying all of them? Let us know in the comments!
