The Last Jedi's Presence At D23 Expo

Rian Johnson appeared on stage alone since Kathleen Kennedy is apparently on set with Ron Howard at the ‘Han Solo’ shoot. They showed some behind-the-scenes stills and the brought out Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Gwendoline Christie (which Johnson joked about already trying to get GoT spoliers from) and then they brought out the newcomers Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, and Benicio Del Toro. And, a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel. Read more after the jump

Next, Daisy briefly spoke about the filming in Ireland and said that she and Rian jigged for an hour on the last day of filming. John Boyega says he will be fighting a formidable opponent in The Last Jedi as Gwendoline stood in front of him looking intimidating (speculate away!).

Gwendoline joked that her Phasma costume gets a bit warm, so she just tosses a casserole in it and then its ready for lunch!

Kelly Marie Tran said she felt as though she had won the Golden Ticket when she was cast. Dern said it was the opportunity of a life time and she also said she would say the word “pew” in scenes when she used a weapon. They showed a picture of her from the film holding a blaster.

Benicio Del Toro said he saw the original when he was 10-years-old and told Johnson, “When you called, and told me the title, I said, ‘Let’s go!'”

Mark Hamill then joined the cast on stage. He joked, “It’s so kind of you to make me not stand next to Gwendoline. They said I’m too short for a Stormtrooper!”

“When I read the script, there were so many unexpected elemented, which is great in a Star Wars film, because it’s getting harder and harder to bring new stuff to the table. This is a real game-changer.” Hamill shared. Game changer…good or bad? you decide…He then said, “I’ve learned to express that alot more artfully.” as a reference to his critical comments of Rian’s script.

Hamill said that he would make a comment like, “You can’t please everyone.” and then the headline will say, “Star Wars bound to disappoint says Hamill!”

They showed a behind-the-scenes video showing new looks and a lot of new creatures.

In the video, Daisy says that the film is, “unexpected but right” and will have people saying, “oh my god” over the events in the film. Daisy then said that this film feels like it’s own thing. The video ended with Carrie Fisher saying, “it’s about family, and that’s what’s so powerful about it” oooohh my.
