This week I went to a local toy show. They recently moved locations from Glendale to Mesa. That is much closer for me, and the new venue is easily five times larger than the old one. One could find toys from any line and any of the last several decades. Take a look and be jealous!

While Lucasfilm won’t confirm anything usually quite reliable trade magazine Deadline has learned that Damon Lindelof is working on a new Star Wars movie. He will work with a yet to be named co-writer on the script. According to Deadline Lucasfilm have also found a director for the project, the two times Oscar winner (for documentary shorts) and Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, so not Bryce Dallas Howard or Deborah Chow who both have worked on The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Lindelof is certainly best known for LOST (he was showrunner with Carlton Cuse, JJ Abrams left after the pilot and had no input after that) and how everyone ended up in a church in the Afterlife, he also is responsible for critically acclaimed shows like Watchmen and The Leftovers. As far as movies are concerned Lindelof wrote Star Trek Into Darkness and the Alien prequel Prometheus, and both movies do not necessarily excel in the script department. If you wonder what happened to Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, it was removed from Disney’s release schedule for good in September, it had been removed before, then it was reported Jenkins is back… and now the movie seems to be really dead. There is no word yet when or if Taika Waititi will begin filming his Star Wars movie. There is a tentative release date for a Star Wars movie in 2025. It seems Star Wars will keep its focus on Disney+ series for the time being.

UPDATE: the Hollywood Reporter believe they know who the co-writer is: Justin Britt-Gibson, who worked on series like Counterpart. They also say that the movie will be standalone, but that it could be expanded into a trilogy. The movie will allegedly be set in the Sequel Trilogy continuity, and characters from the trilogy may appear in the new project. Filoni may have been present in the super secret writer’s room when the project was conceived. Take all this with generous doses of salt. As usual.

Nielsen have finally added Andor to their weekly streaming charts, which have a delay of about four weeks. And Andor has pretty good ratings, the series accumulated 624 million minutes in the US, according to Nielsen. It is the series with the lowest number of episodes in the charts. Nielsen does ignore people watching the series on PCs and a few other devices, but the numbers are still an accepted industry standard for popularity. How does Andor compare to the other Star Wars live action shows? Click through for a few more details!

Hasbro released their financial report for the 3rd quarter yesterday. And the toymaker failed to meet targets and suffered a major revenue decline. However, not everything is doom and gloom, and when you look at the report in detail you can see that what matters to us most here, Star Wars, is still performing well. The Eye concludes the second arc of Andor’s season 1. Were the two preceding episodes worth all the wait and slow build-up? Absolutely. If you’re a George Lucas-era Star Wars fan and collector, you likely feel that the whole IP is insufferable under Disney. Don’t worry; we’re not going down that path here. However, the focus of Disney Star Wars has affected Hasbro’s toy line the most. But as I looked back since the re-launch of The Vintage Collection in March of 2018, I realized that Hasbro did an admirable job of getting many characters from The Empire Strikes Back out to collectors, including MANY I never anticipated we’d see in the modern line. The upcoming Tales of the Jedi series gets a new poster. Click below to check it out. Tales of the Jedi debuts October 26th on Disney+.

I would not fault you for thinking that literally nothing happens in the latest Andor episode. However, I argue we get a very compelling character study instead, something Star Wars has maybe never given us before. So there are things to talk about of course, even if there may be no action, no battles, nothing that series like The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett have in spades. But in some ways Andor is much more interesting than any Star Wars series before. So read my spoiler review for the latest episode and let’s have a discussion, just click here or on the banner!
