Hasbro Fan First Friday: The Black Series Reveals

The very first Fan First Friday of the new year just ended and a big focus for The Black Series was the Lucasfilm 50th anniversary event. The Black Series will get  several figures in the 50th anniversary line, almost all of them repacks/repaints. One figure gets a retooled photoreal headsculpt however! Click through for all the details!

UPDATE: Photos added!

The Lucasfilm 50th anniversary is a big focus

Hasbro first talked about the Kenner style figures which were already revealed yesterday, so I am not going to talk about them here again.

But the 50th anniversary line doesn’t stop with these three figures, Hasbro will honor all the movies and The Phantom Menace will also see various 50th anniversary releases.

  • The Battle Droid
  • Mace Windu
  • Jar Jar – who only comes with the spear and misses all the other accessories from the deluxe release
  • Qui Gon Jinn who gets a retooled head. The existing headsculpt with the extra eye piece didn’t work out for photoreal, so Hasbro retooled the head.

All of the above figures are Best Buy exclusives! Pre-orders open at 1 pm!

One more figure was revealed, an all black repainted Clone Trooper figure (using the 2.0 sculpt) that will appear in The Bad Batch show.

So basically, only repaints or repacks were announced for The Black Series this time. However, Hasbro introduced a new concept, by talking about pipeline releases. Please check out the dedicated article for that to see what actual new figures Hasbro announced!

And here are some photos of the figures in the box or on the card!

It’s the same old Battle Droid we got before. My version came with incredibly warped legs and suffers from plastic that is too soft. I hope the repack uses better plastics!

Mace is a good figure. Now you can get him on a Phantom Menace card.

Is it a bit cheeky to repack Jar Jar so soon and to only give him his spear as an accessory? You decide!

Photoreal Qui-Gon with a retooled head may be the most exciting figure in the 50th anniversary line-up so far.

Retooled head!

And here is Qui-Gon out in the open. The retooled head looks a lot nicer than before! The extra part for the eyes never really looked right, in my opinion.

All the 50th anniversary figures revealed today are BEST BUY exclusives! Pre-orders open at 1pm later today! Happy hunting!

The only “new” figure revealed is a repaint of the brand new Clone Trooper sculpt. He is all black now and is labeled as an “Elite Squad Trooper”. He’s from The Bad Batch, the new upcoming animated series about the characters first introduced in season 7 of The Clone Wars.

And out of the box

The new clone sculpt, in all black! He only comes with one blaster as an accessory.

And that’s it. The figures in the pipeline are a lot more interesting for me. What do you think of today’s reveals? Are you excited for the 50th anniversary repacks/repaints and yet another clone trooper variant? Do you think Best Buy is a great retail partner for Hasbro?
