What is the goal and purpose of Hasbro’s crowdfunding platform HasLab? To give fans the opportunity to get items that could never succeed at retail? That is the basic idea. But is HasLab really just that? A platform that gives hardcore collectors things they would never get otherwise? Or is HasLab something else entirely? I believe HasLab is evolving into something very different from what it is intended to be. Why? Click through for a  discussion!

That’s what Hasbro is saying

TVC Fives Is A Little Short For An ARC Trooper!

Just when you thought there was nothing else to complain about with Hasbro, another irritating thing rears its ugly head. The Vintage Collection ARC Trooper Fives, now arriving from AMazon and still unofficially announced by Hasbro, is notably out of scale with the rest of the Clone Trooper/Commanders in the line. That means the dreadful upcoming TVC Captain Rex will tower over this figure because that’s the tallest clone sculpt of all! Special thanks to JTA reader John C. for the news and image!

HasLab TVC "The Child" Unlock Will Come Carded

CNET has revealed more images from the Razor Crest campaign, including a mock-up of The Child (Nevarro) on a TVC card back. Click here for the full story. It remains to be seen if The Mandalorian will also come carded.

The 2nd stretch goal for the Razor Crest was just revealed. And it’s none other than Baby Yoda aka The Child! He comes with his 2nd crib he had towards the end of season 1! In his left hand Baby Yoda is holding his favorite toy in the world, the metal knob from the control lever. Which was absent from the cockpit renders. How do you like that stretch goal? Also, do you think Baby Yoda might also see a single release (with his first crib) later in 2021? You can back the Razor Crest here to get Baby Yoda in TVC!

HasLab Razor Crest Reaches 8000 - First Stretch Goal Unlocked

With 8000 backers we are now getting (what we should have already gotten) the first stretch goal featuring an escape pod. Let’s hope when they finally reveal the next stretch goal it will be something a bit more exciting! Have you backed it yet?

Posted in Hasbro
Tags: , ,

What Will The 2nd Stretch Goal Be For The Razor Crest?

The Razor Crest is 352 backers short of reaching 8,000 backers, which means two things: the escape pod is greenlit and the 2nd stretch goal should be revealed in the next few hours, probably when people in North America wake up again. Now the big question is, what will that 2nd stretch goal be? Could it be a Baby Yoda figure? Prisoners in carbonite? A flight stand? A second escape pod? Or maybe some lights for the cockpit and cargo bay? What is your guess? Also, at the pace the Razor Crest gets backers the question is if maybe an ultimate 3rd stretch goal will be added once 10,000 have been reached. Or do you think two stretch goals is all the Razor Crest will get? Also: the first person to guess the 2nd stretch goal wins the internet for today! So leave your guess in the comments!

The 2nd stretch goal should be revealed on Tuesday

S.H.Figuarts The Heavy Mandalorian And Armorer Revealed

S.H.Figuarts is focusing more on The Mandalorian! The Beskar Mandalorian and Baby Yoda aka The Child were released a few days ago and are shipping to me, I’ll get the figures by the end of the week (hopefully). IG-11 is coming next month and hopes are that he is much more accurate and a lot better than the Black Series offering. But SHF is not stopping here, the Heavy Mandalorian and The Armorer are also coming to the line. Now the big question is: will collectors outside of Japan still want these figures when Hasbro is offering a great Heavy Mandalorian figure and just announced the Armorer as well? As usual materials used (SHF is known for using very high quality plastics) and accessories may be the deciding factor here. Click through for some additional info and photos!

UPDATE: The Armorer web exclusive figure is already available for pre-order from various Japanese etailers!

Where Is That Refocused Attention For The Kenner 96, Hasbro?

This past February, the biggest news from NY International Toy Fair was that Hasbro refocused their efforts to bring us what they’re calling the original “Kenner 96.” They even made a slide describing this new “initiative.” They launched this new effort with the Power Droid. It was the first figure announced to fall under this criterion. (more….)

Hasbro, it’s time to execute Order Darth Revan (VC150) on the latest repacks for The Vintage Collection. The Battle Droid isn’t a terrible inclusion, but two of the others included made up the Great TPM 3D Debacle of 2012. Another was part of a wave that bottlenecked distribution in early 2011 (Anakin Skywalker), and lastly, a figure that’s needed an all-new sculpt since 2008 (the TIE Fighter Pilot) is perhaps the worst of the foursome. This wave is a no-win situation. Please do better. Here are some ideas: General Grievous. Rebel Trooper (Echo Base). Shae Vizla. Clone Trooper (501st Legion- the rarest TVC figures from the original run). Kit Fisto. Jango Fett. Grand Moff Tarkin. Luke Skywalker (Dagobah Landing). ARC Trooper Commander. Starkiller. Weequay. Emperor’s Royal Guard. There are SO MANY OTHERS that should have come before these four.

The HasLab The Vintage Collection Razor Crest is fully funded as of 5:35 PM ET! That’s quite a success. It was backed in just over 24 hours. Is that a HasLab record? Congratulations to all who participated in this HasLab project. The first bonus unlock is an “escape pod add-on” feature, perhaps the worst unlocked bonus ever?

Yawn. Hasbro made us wait so long for the Phase I Clone Trooper Lieutenant that we don’t even care about it anymore. Besides, the tooling is so old and tired now that the articulation system is terrible by today’s standards. Also, why did they give the packaging red color flashes? They used “yellow” for The Saga Collection for Episode II, and it made the most sense. What are they going to do for The Phantom Menace now? (more….)

As you know, Ollie’s stores got multiple case assortments of The Vintage Collection in enough quantity to make a big deal about it and posted the news in their ad the week they went for sale. If you’re a collector of The Vintage Collection, you know that MANY of the figures that arrived at Ollie’s never made their way to brick and mortar stores like TARGET and WALMART. A lot of collectors saw the Rogue One Stormtrooper for the first time at Ollie’s, and on clearance to boot. One of the case boxes from the same Hasbro distribution center went to Ollie’s. And then we have another picture of a Walmart case from Walmart with the local label pulled back for comparison. What we discovered is not unexpected, but still disconcerting. It provides proof of how frustrating the current state of distribution is. Click through for more.

The Mandalorian Wins Five Creative Arts Emmys!

While the main event is scheduled for Sunday, the Creative Arts Emmys for the more technical categories were already awarded yesterday. And The Mandalorian won in five categories! Emmys were awarded for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series, and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program. And while movie or tv awards are rather arbitrary and even though fewer people care about award shows each year, this is a very deserved win for The Mandalorian in these technical categories. So congratulations to the VFX, sound, camera and production design people who helped create The Mandalorian! Their hard work more than paid off!
The Mandalorian could still win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series and Giancarlo Esposito could win an Emmy for his portrayal of Moff Gideon (he is also nominated for his role in Better Call Saul), but the competition is tough and a win seems unlikely in either of these categories.

Review: Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder) - TBS6 [P4] - TESB02

Reminder That Funko Continues To Give Fans What They Want

This has been revealed earlier this week (on Yahoo Entertainment), but I’d still like to point out that once again Funko is not only the first to market, but also the first and only company to even have the figures at all: Jedi Training Luke and Leia from the The Rise of Skywalker flashback scene. Opinions about the movie may be divided, but almost anyone would agree that the third sequel was the most toyetic of the three episodes. And even though sequel based merchandise does not necessarily sell like hot cakes, I would think that OT based figures from a flashback scene might find a lot of fans, no matter the scale, of course this could be released in both lines. Who wouldn’t want a Jedi Knight Leia and Jedi Master Luke in their prime on the shelf?
Would you want these two figures at least from The Rise of Skywalker, or do you think Hasbro should forget the sequels altogether and focus on The Mandalorian and missing OT/PT figures instead, provided there are only so many release slots and the number of figures each year is rather limited?

This post contains affiliate links. At no additional cost to you, JTA may receive a commission if you click and make a purchase.

Disney Movie Insiders (formally Disney Movie Rewards) launched their physical rewards section today after a long hiatus stretching back to almost a year ago. With the launch, there are currently 9 theatrical Star Wars posters available, including several from The Rise of Skywalker, The Last Jedi, and Rogue One. The site has had issues all day today with actually redeeming rewards for a poster, but it seems to be working now. If you are still in need of some posters and have the points, stop by and pick them up. If you don’t have points you can always buy them on eBay for what would amount to buying the posters for about $10-$20 (depending on which one you choose).

In 1984, new packaging for Star Wars figures was introduced for the European market. A cost containment initiative, the new packaging sported three languages of the Return Of The Jedi logo for a “one size fits all” approach. Although a “three-logo” design was created for The Power Of The Force line (as evidenced on some ‘boxed’ toys), it wasn’t carried over to the basic figure line’s card design. They continued to use the three Return Of The Jedi logos instead. Although the word “Trilogo” is found nowhere on the packaging, the term is universally adopted by all Star Wars collectors to describe this line of figures.

Today we revisit Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot. Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot comes with all-new card art based on a film-ou from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. See the full Trilogo card art and additional notes by revisiting 1982’s THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot figure HERE.

The Vintage Collection Wicket (VC27) re-release is an odd choice. But we’re thrilled to report it might be the best evidence of Phot Real deco in all The Vintage Collection. While imperfect, Hasbro got Wicket very close to screen-accuracy with updated deco focusing on the cowl as well as the figure’s fur and facial features. For The Vintage Collection “2.0” lineup, Wicket received a significant amount of updating. In our opinion, Wicket’s Photo Real deco is stunning. Star Wars collectors now have FIVE carded versions to track down of Wicket (VC27). We took the time to break it all down for you by producing an all-new 100-image gallery complete with both versions (2012 and 2020) featured, comparison shots, diorama shots with Kenner’s Star Wars: Ewoks figures, and a breakdown of what separates the two releases in the Collector Notes. Check out this excellently updated figure in our RDRs now! There’s more difference here than you may realize.

1982 THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Zuckuss: Trilogo Update

The Vintage Collection Obi-Wan Kenobi (VC103) went sky-high on the aftermarket, so it makes sense we’re seeing the figure again eight years later. Hasbro re-released the figure with improved paint operations and Photo Real. For The Vintage Collection “2.0” lineup, Obi-Wan Kenobi received a significant amount of updating. They even changed the pitch of the character’s head on the card art. In our opinion, the Photo Real deco is stunning, if you can find the right sample that is. The colors are quite different on the re-release. We took the time to break it all down for you by producing an all-new 76-image gallery complete with both versions (2012 and 2020) featured, comparison shots, diorama shots, and a breakdown of what separates the two releases in the Collector Notes. Entertainment Earth is starting some trouble on Instagram. They’re asking for Star Wars fans to vote on their favorite Star Wars line: The Black Series 6″ line, or The Vintage Collection. As of this post, The Vintage Collection is forging ahead of the 6″ line. What will the end result be? Most people who collect TVC aren’t even on Instagram (unempirical data assessment). The Vintage Collection Anakin Skywalker (VC92) broke the mold for The Clone Wars line in 2012. Since then, the realistic style became the “norm” for this Star Wars source. For The Vintage Collection “2.0” lineup, Anakin Skywalker received a wealth of updates. The Photo Real deco is stunning if you can find the right sample that is, and the scar is more pronounced now than ever. Also, and we didn’t notice this until now, the skirt was installed backward on the original release. Did you know? Hasbro spun it around for a proper drape this time. The colors are quite different on the re-release, that Anakin Skywalker almost feels like an all-new figure…. sort of. We took the time to break it all down for you by producing an all-new 72-image gallery complete with both versions (2012 and 2020) featured, comparison shots, diorama shots, and a breakdown of what separates the two releases in the Collector Notes. As of this post, The Vintage Collection Darth Maul (VC86) figure ranks as the 22nd most-visited review in our RDRs database. Now, it’s time to revisit the figure and get that rank higher since Hasbro re-released the figure in 2020 with significant changes. Another wise repack in The Vintage Collection “2.0” lineup, Darth Maul now comes with Photo Real deco, a flatter matte paint job, and significantly revised packaging (both card art and figure placement). We took the time to break it all down for you by producing an all-new 120-image gallery complete with both versions (2012 and 2020) featured, comparison shots, dioramas, and a breakdown of what separates the two releases in the Collector Notes. Review: BB Units [Red/Black] - Galaxy's Edge Trading Outpost

We finish up the BB Units for the Galaxy’s Edge Trading Outpost line. They aren’t from the Disney Droid Factory line. They’re from the 5POA TFA/SW [TLJ] Two-Packs sub-lines, which means they don’t split in half or have a lot of movement or play features. It’s a disappointing development. Let’s conclude with the BB Units [Red/Black] set. (more….)

First Look At The Mandalorian Season 2!

Entertainment Weekly offers a very first look at The Mandalorian season 2. While the article is extremely light on season 2 details, it reveals a few tidbits about what to expect. According to the article season 2 will widen the scope, and other characters may also get a bit more focus as new storylines are introduced. The “big bad” of the season will be Moff Gideon, and the article teases that Gideon will also spent some one-on-one time with Baby Yoda. Even though the EW article will not tell you all that much about the upcoming season it is still worth a read as it also sheds some light about what’s going on behind the scenes on set and the thought process behind the show. We learn that Favreau will do nothing without Filoni’s approval and that Gina Carana asked Pedro Pascal to remove his helmet in his scenes with her when the camera is only on her, because it helps  her with her performance when she can see his eyes and face.

Are you looking forward to season 2 of The Mandalorian? What are your expectactions, what do you want to see?

Sunday Fun: The True Size Of Star Wars Toy Vehicles

Star Wars is, among many other things, known for its enormously sized space ships. Hasbro has made quite a few of the smaller vehicles for The Vintage Collection, and they even gave The Black Series a few vehicles. However, the toy versions are somewhat undersized. But what if Hasbro made scale accurate Star Wars vehicles? What would be the size? Ever wondered how big a Black Series AT-AT or a TVC Star Destroyer would be? Click through to find out!

Today we revisit Bespin Security Guard [B]. It didn’t come in standard Trilogo packaging. Instead, it was packaged in what the collecting community deems as “Trilogo Hybrid” packaging. The card front is nearly identical to the Kenner Return Of The Jedi Bespin Security Guard [B] figure, while the back features the Trilogo logo and figure group shot. The review’s Collector Notes are updated with this information. See the full card art and additional notes by revisiting 1982’s THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Bespin Security Guard [B] figure HERE.

Today we revisit ARTOO-DETOO (R2-D2). ARTOO-DETOO (R2-D2) has an interesting Trilogo card back. C-3PO was repositioned, and both characters received a strong orange wash over them. Eventually, the name of the figure was changed to Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2) (with Sensorscope), but that took some time. See the full Trilogo card art and additional notes by revisiting 1982’s THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK ARTOO-DETOO (R2-D2) figure HERE.

The Captain Cardinal 6″ figure is a new character for the line. But it’s all old parts, so it disappoints a little. Are you looking for a figure that resembles a Sith Trooper? Because that’s what this figure is. (more….)
