A Closer Look At The Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer

The brand new season 2 trailer for The Mandalorian didn’t give anything away really, but it provided a few titillating glimpses at the places the show is going to visit. And we got a quick look at a few new characters as well. So what exactly did we see in the trailer? Click through for all the details!

The Baby Yoda show featuring the Mandalorian returns in late October

So let’s look at what the Mandalorian season 2 trailer gave away!

The very first shot of the trailer tells us that the Razor Crest has definitely seen better days!

Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer

A battered Razor Crest

Panels are missing from the fuselage, the cargo bay door is open and the engines are giving off sparks, while the Razor Crest is tumbling through space towards a very blue planet. Which may or may not be Mon Cala or Corellia which has shipyards. The Razor Crest is in dire need of some repairs. So something bad must have happened to it.

The dark streets of Corellia?

The streets of Corellia?

Now this is pure speculation, but the dark city scape could be Corellia. At least the overall aesthetics and visuals remind of Corellia as seen in the Solo movie. On the plus side Lucasfilm could re-use even more assets from Solo if the Mandalorian does go to Corellia for some reason.

The most famous planet in the galaxy, revisited yet again.

What would Star Wars be without desert planets?

This is most certainly Tatooine. Unless there are Offworld Sand People and Offworld Banthas now. So for some reason the Mandalorian returns to the desolate planet world, which may or may not have something to do with the mysterious person that picked up Fennic Shand’s body in season 1.

Future Starkiller Base?

Ilum or Hoth? Or neither?

This icy world could very well be Ilum. A later shot shows the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda in front of the entrance to a cave. Ilum was the place young Jedi got their Kyber crystals from. Later the First Order repurposed the planet into Starkiller Base. We also get to visit Ilum in Fallen Order and find out that the Empire had plans for the planet even back then. Chances are that we get to see Ilum, it makes more sense probably than Hoth or some generic icy planet, since Baby Yoda is force sensitive. Maybe he wants a lightsaber toy for Christmas (I mean Life Day) and needs a Kyber crystal. We will find out soon!

Either a generic ship or a Republic Gunship of some significance.

Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer

What kind of ship is this?

The somewhat blurry ship in the background could be a crashed Republic Gunship on yet another icy world, either the same we saw before or maybe a completely unrelated second icy world. Note the orange markings and remember them.

Fish and chips?

Mon Cala?

Since this watery world seems to have many Quarren roaming about chances are very high that we see Mon Cala here, home to said Quarren and Mon Calamari. It seems the Mandalorian needs a boat. Let’s hope he won’t encounter a white shark.

Live action Rebels?

Sabine Wren observing the Mandalorian?

This is definitely Sasha Banks, a female wrestler. Now the big question is who she is in The Mandalorian. People are convinced she’s Sabine Wren. Which would make sense, if Ahsoka does indeed make an appearance in season 2.

Who wouldn’t want an X-Wing escort?

Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer

Friend or foe?

The Razor crest is escorted by two X-Wings. Please note the brand new orange markings on the fuselage of the Razor Crest, which may or may not be somehow connected to the orange markings we last saw on the crashed ship on the ice planet. Has The Mandalorian joined some faction? Or did he feel the Razor Crest needed a touch of paint? Or did Hasbro call Lucasfilm and tell them to make a Razor Crest variant so they can sell another version of the ship with updated paint apps?

Friction. Not always your best friend.

Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer

That’s either an emergency landing or the ship is about to hit the ground at full speed very soon

Even though it’s very blurry and the fire doesn’t make things any better, the Razor Crest is still recognizable, you can see the general shape of the ship and the telltale engines. This is most likely yet another misdirection and we will not see how the Razor Crest is destroyed in season 2. But you never know. It might as well be that the scene of the Razor Crest limping to some planet, with very obvious damage to its hull, follows that fiery descent.

Someone got a wardrobe upgrade!

Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer

Greef Karga seems to be doing well

This could be Nevarro, the home base of the bounty hunter guild in season 1. Greef Karga certainly has a new tailor and is now sporting a beard. Let’s hope he’s not from some mirror universe! Cara Dune seems to be very happy to see The Mandalorian (I presume the two are about to meet him).

So when will we get the toys?

Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer

TIE-Fighters with foldable wings. Not available in stores near you!

The Imperial Remnants are still a major factor and we get to see quite a few TIE Fighters, Stormtroopers and speeder bikes! This could very well be Nevarro, at least the overall look of the place is similar. Maybe payback for what happened in season 1?

Either the same installation or clever misdirection!

Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer

Space Walls, scale 1:1. This playset is coming for the all new “Platinum Series”, MSRP is $1,000,000.

We are led to believe that this corridor scene is connected to the shot of the TIE Fighters and the speeder bikes rushing away immediately after. OR this could all be a clever misdirect and the corridor scene is not related to the other two scenes at all. Giancarlo Esposito hinted at the possibility that Moff Gideon may have his very own Star Destroyer, so maybe this is a corridor on Moff Gideon’s Ship? Or it is some installation with TIE Fighters and speeder bikes… you never know!

And that’s it, there were some other things in the trailer, most prominent is the Gamorrean fight club (remember the first rule!), but we cannot know where that is and who the people are the Mandalorian will decimate and the interior shots give no clue really where we are or who the people are. But it wouldn’t completely surprise me if the fight club is on Corellia, I think the people there would enjoy that kind of thing.

So what do you think? Will the show go to several iconic Star Wars planets in season 2? Mon Cala is almost certainly confirmed, as well as Tatooine, but what about Ilum and Corellia, will we see them as well or are the icy world and dark, industrialzed planet some other worlds we have not seen before? Will we see, as is rumored, Ahsoka and Sabine Wren? Who else could Sasha Banks be if not her? And the ultimate question: who will Baby Yoda force choke this time? Leave your own speculation and thoughts in the comments!
