Han Solo Outfits Ranked By io9, Then JTA Ranks Their TVC Availability

I typically am not a reader of anything io9 publishes. It’s not an outlet that I visit and their content rarely resonates with me. However, today, an article they published yesterday caught my eye as it popped up in my notifications. They ranked the Top 15 versions/outfits of Han Solo across the Star Wars saga (major motion picture films only). The article got me thinking about how far has Hasbro comes to giving collectors 3.75″ super-articulated interpretations of these different Han Solo characters. After my analysis, I felt a little sad. We’ve received some magnificent mini works of art, but there are SO MANY versions they haven’t updated in The Vintage Collection yet, and some are so overdue it’s now criminal. Original Trilogy, Sequel Trilogy, and “standalone story films,” are all reflected in this Top 15 list. Then I’ve added my analysis to show the toy perspective. Check it out!

15. Han Solo – Return Of The Jedi (Tatooine/Battle of Carkoon)

This iteration of Han Solo is represented in the form of 2018’s TVC Han Solo (Carbonite) (VC136) from Jabba’s Palace (Adventure Set). It can also be represented by 2011’s TVC Han Solo (In Trench Coat) (VC64) figure. An update down the road, including all-new tooling and Photo Real, would be appreciated.

14. Han Solo – A New Hope (Stormtrooper Disguise)

This iteration of Han Solo is represented in the form of 2019’s TVC Han Solo (Stormtrooper) (VC143) figure. It’s probably as close to definitive as we’ll ever see.

13. Han Solo – Solo: A Star Wars Story (Corellia)

There is no super-articulated interpretation of this character. The closest we have is a 5POA figure from 2018’s SW [S] Han Solo’s Landspeeder vehicle set.

12. Han Solo – Solo: A Star Wars Story (Vandor-1)

There is no super-articulated interpretation of this character. The closest we have is a 5POA figure from 2018’s SW [S] Mission On Vandor-1 multi-figure set.

11. Han Solo – Return Of The Jedi (Endor/In Trench Coat)

This iteration of Han Solo is represented in the form of 2011’s TVC Han Solo (In Trench Coat) (VC64) figure. An update down the road, including all-new tooling and Photo Real, would be appreciated.

10. Han Solo – The Force Awakens (Standard Outfit)

There is no super-articulated interpretation of this character. The closest we have is a 5POA figure from 2016’s TFA Han Solo Build A Weapon figure.

9. Han Solo – Solo: A Star Wars Story (Mimban)

There is no super-articulated interpretation of this character (yet). The closest we have is a 5POA figure from 2018’s SW [S] Han Solo (Mimban) figure. A version for The Vintage Collection was in the works for early 2019, but plans were halted. Hopefully, Hasbro will return to them and finally release this figure one day.

8. Han Solo – The Force Awakens (Starkiller Base)

While we don’t have this iteration reflected in The Vintage Collection, one was produced for The Black Series [Phase III] Walmart exclusive line as 2016’s TBS [P3] Han Solo [TFA] release. Hopefully, Hasbro will update the figure with Photo Real and re-release it in The Vintage Collection for a definitive release.

7. Han Solo – Solo: A Star Wars Story (Standard Outfit)

This iteration of Han Solo is represented in the form of 2018’s TVC Han Solo (VC128) figure. An update as a “carry-forward” figure down the road, including Photo Real, would be appreciated because this is one of the worst painted TVC “2.0” figures of the entire line.

6. Han Solo – Return Of The Jedi (Standard Outfit)

This iteration of Han Solo is represented in the form of 2011’s TVC Han Solo (In Trench Coat) (VC64) figure. An update down the road, including all-new tooling and Photo Real, would be appreciated.

5. Han Solo – Solo: A Star Wars Story (Deleted Scene: Imperial Pilot)

This iteration of Han Solo is not reflected in any format to date. Hasbro used to make some FANTASTIC “deleted scenes” figures in The Vintage Collection, so hopefully, they’ll get to a figure like this one day also.

4. Han Solo – Return Of The Jedi (In Carbonite Block)

This iteration of Han Solo is represented in the form of 2018’s TVC Han Solo (Carbonite) (VC136) from 2018’s TVC Jabba’s Palace (Adventure Set) Walmart exclusive.

3. Han Solo – The Empire Strikes Back (Hoth)

Unbelievably, Hasbro has not given us a definitive release of this iteration of Han Solo in The Vintage Collection. Past, and admirable, efforts like 2007’s VTSC Han Solo (In Hoth Outfit) and 2011’s SW [SOTDS] Search For Luke Skywalker TARGET exclusive are alright, but we need a finalized and definitive version ASAP. It’s the 40th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. Now seems like a perfect time.

2. Han Solo – A New Hope (Standard Outfit)

This iteration of Han Solo is represented by a couple of figures, depending upon your point of view. 2004’s VOTC Han Solo and 2011’s TVC Han Solo (Yavin Ceremony) (VC42) figures are excellent. But an update down the road including some all-new tooling and Photo Real would be appreciated.

1. Han Solo – The Empire Strikes Back (Bespin)

This iteration of Han Solo is represented in the form of 2020’s TVC Han Solo (Bespin [Bespin Outfit]) (VC50) reissued figure. It’s probably as close to definitive as we’ll receive of this character.
