JTA Presents: Evolutions - Pablo-Jill

Welcome to another one our JTA Presents: Evolutions features! Let’s check out how close or far we are from having an ideal Hasbro 3.75″ Pablo-Jill action figure. Have we arrived at definitive status yet? Weigh in and let us know what conclusion you’ll come to by clicking through and adding your two cents in the comments!

Pablo-Jill

It’s surprising to see many collectors feel that Pablo-Jill does very little for them and are a bit indifferent when it comes to the character’s action figures. Then other collectors think that he is one of the coolest characters ever introduced by George Lucas. Barely seen during the Battle of Geonosis in the unforgettable, action-packed arena, Pablo-Jill entered the Hasbro basic figure line in 2005’s The Original Trilogy Collection. The figure was excellent, but Hasbro produced a perfect specimen for the Legacy Collection [2] line, which was ultimately canceled. Thankfully, Hasbro worked him into The Black Series [Phase I] line for all to acquire.

The first quarter of 2005 was a precarious time for Star Wars collectors. Revenge Of The Sith was just “moments” away, but Hasbro always ensured there were figures on the pegs at all time. Things were quite different then. So they quickly cobbled together a couple of waves of all-new figures and smart repacks under a line of figures that collectors dubbed “The [Post] Original Trilogy Collection.” This version of Pablo-Jill looked great but lacked the necessary articulation collectors wanted to see. The figure’s paint operations stood out on this version of Pablo-Jill. And the figure held up well for years.

Pablo-Jill (#10) from 2013’s The Black Series [Phase I] line.

Everything changed in 2013 with the release of the all-new Pablo-Jill action figure. Hasbro gave the figure super-articulation, and also included “rocker” ankles which are a huge enhancement for 3.75″ scaled action figures. We’re not sure if the coloring is as perfect on this version of Pablo-Jill when compared to the character’s original release in 2005. But the inclusion of a soft-goods cloak and some of the best functional articulation ever worked into an action figure, The Black Series [Phase I] Pablo-Jill ranks as one of Hasbro’s most exceptional action figures of all time. For many, Pablo-Jill ranks as definitive.

Questions for discussion:

1. In your opinion, do we have a definitive version of this figure?

2. If we don’t have a definitive version of this figure, should Hasbro tool a new figure from the ground up again, or should they tweak a current sculpt to perfect it instead?

3. If the figure ranks as definitive for you, do you want to see it repackaged in vintage Kenner packaging (The Vintage Collection) if it isn’t already?

4. Add any other points of note or interest in the comments about any of these versions of Pablo-Jill action figures.
