Longtime JTA reader and 3.75″ super-articulated enthusiast Mike R. sent us some disconcerting news about his #backthebarge order. It was canceled because of a PayPal time window protocol. Could this be the reason we’re starting to see orders fall off? Click through for more.
JTA,
I’ve seen the articles about the backing numbers going in the reverse and seen them myself from constantly refreshing the page…
I may have an answer? Not sure though.
I called PayPal and I was told that my initial “pending” transaction to Hasbrotoyshop of $499.99 had indeed fallen off after a week which was expected. Even the Haslab site says the “pending” charge may fall off.
I was concerned that the charge had disappeared so I called PayPal.
Here’s what PayPal told me:
The initial pending charge of $499.99 to Hasbrotoyshop did fall off on my account. However, Hasbrotoyshop only has up to 30 days to actually capture the funds and finalize the charge or the transaction will be “Cancelled”.
Now, I’m not sure how this has effected the number totals so far if any, but if the two different PayPal reps I spoke to are correct, and the uncaptured and un-finalized funds after the 30 day window causes those orders to get cancelled….. people that used PayPal for the Barge in the initial first week or so of the campaign may have already had their orders permanently cancelled? Hence the backwards slide?
This definitely warrants some additional looking into.
I have my first backing done on Feb 19th and PayPal told me to call back after the 30 days are up which would be in a few days to see if the charge is still valid or if it got cancelled.
I’m backing a second Barge in the next few days just in case.
I will be extremely pissed if I THINK I’m still a successful backer only to find out the charge was cancelled after the close of the campaign because the final capture window has been exceeded as per PayPals rules.
Maybe some additional calls to PayPal and maybe to Hasbro can shed some light on this?
Mike R.
