TSC – Wave 2 – Battle of Coruscant
#010 R2-D2:

Okay, I have to be honest here. I'm a bit burned out on R2 repaints/ re-sculpts. So I wasn't much looking forward to this figure. Thankfully there were some nice surprises that made it worth buying, barely.

Here are my subjective and objective reviews for the figure:

Head Sculpt:
Well not much different from other R2 sculpts. Not impressed here, but it fills the bill. Same telescoping trick it’s had before. Meh, not much more to be done at this points.
Rating 2.5 out of 5 Holocrons

Articulation:
Well considering R2 himself isn't too articulated, there’s not much more we could hope for with a figure at this scale. Swivel legs, pivoting ankles, the head thing notwithstanding, it’s nice to see the third leg and wheels again on his "feet."
Rating 2.5 out of 5 Holocrons

Paint Application:
Same standard paint as we've seen countless other times, but with an added dirty wash to it. Makes him look a little more "lived in."
Rating 2.5 out of 5 Holocrons

Overall sculpt:
Typical of what we've come to expect from R2 sculpts. Not bad at all, just uninspiring. I really can't think of much for Hasbro to do to spruce up the figure itself.
Rating 2.5 out of 5 Holocrons

Accessories:
THIS IS THE AREA that makes him worth buying! The container, lamp, and two piece "lunchbox," easily make this worth owning. If I'm not mistaken you could have gotten the same things in the Dagobah X-wing that was released a few years ago. But if not, then here’s your chance!
Rating 5 out of 5 Holocrons

Customization possibilities:
Okay, unless you're a glutton for punishment and want to outdo the Entertainment Earth 5 packs of Astro droids, or make your own paint scheme, there’s really not much to do here. Since we did just get those exclusives, I don't see much of a need to repaint this little guy.
Rating 2 out of 5 Holocrons

Playability:
The figure itself is just more of the same old, but the accessories can make the diorama if you're utilizing him for that purpose. IF this is for a small child, then I recommend NOT giving it too them, unless you squirrel away the accessories until they are old enough to play with them. They are small and the child could choke, or just as easily lose them. Still the figure and accessories have merit and R2 can be used for many different scenes..
Rating 3 out of 5 Holocrons

Overall Score:
Not really a figure I wanted to see released again. The accessories really helped sell it for me. (See Hasbro, sometimes added accessories DO help sell figures). Knowing that the big "H" likes to have core characters available, it’s understood that we would see an R2 hitting shelves again.
Rating 2.5 out of 5 Holocrons
