Clone troopers are stationed on Coruscant to maintain order and provide for the many distinguished visitors who come and go from the planet. The troopers must be constantly vigilant against plots and attacks from the Separatists and their supporters.

The Coruscant Landing Platform Clone Trooper is an awesome figure to finally have cast from the Revenge Of The Sith Clone Trooper (III 41) figure mold. And the "41" works well not only in sculpt but in "spirit" too since he is a member of the 41st Elite Corps. We digress. Hasbro has been slowly but surely making each of the Episode III film specific clone trooper battalions in this super-articulated mold. As one of the few clone troopers made available as action figures that actually appeared in the film, it took some time to get the five core clone troopers released by Hasbro (based on a super-articulated mold) including the 2006 TSC [Utapau] Clone Trooper (SAGA 026), the 2007 TAC 501st Legion Trooper Saga Legends, the corrected 2006 TAC Shock Trooper Saga Legends, the Saleucami Clone Trooper from 2007's TAC Treachery On Saleucami Battle Packs) and now this one. As you can see, Hasbro has made the most of this fantastic sculpt, and for us, it is an extreme highlight to get the final clone released in this sculpt from Episode III. And it has well been worth the wait. Although this brand of clone was first attempted in the 2005 ROTS Clone Attack On Coruscant Battle Packs which was a TARGET exclusive. It utilized the not-so-great 2005 ROTS Clone Trooper Deluxe sculpt (the firing jetpack one). This "gray" clone trooper was then shortly reinvented again for the 2005 ROTS Clone Trooper To Stormtrooper [Version 2] Evolutions set a short time later and became arguably the best one thanks to its great sculpt and awesome battle-damaged details. Now Hasbro has delivered him for the third unique time in 2008's The Legacy Collection. While the Evolutions version is fine sculpt and has a magnificent paint job, it suffers from being the slightest bit too short and having a helmet that appears the slightest bit too big. Also, this new version is much too clean by comparison and should look dirtier like the figure in the Evolutions set. Since the two major aspects of the Evolutions figure are out of scale, the figure is not as perfect as it could be. A disproportionate action figure always makes collectors wish for a better version. Plus, there were other details missed on older versions. These issues have been resolved with this release.

One of the most important details missed on all other Coruscant Clone Troopers is the “five square dots” pattern across the right breast. This distinct pattern is also replicated on the forearms. There is blatant detail here, and it’s great that Hasbro didn’t blow it off this time around. They seem like simple details, but they do wonders for making this clone trooper look so distinct. The pattern is sharp and explicit, and it is movie accurate. It may not seem that tiny squares could do much for a clone trooper, but this figure is proof that it does. For the first time, Hasbro has repainted the antenna on the back of the figure with a silver-colored wash, and it works very well. We are surprised that Hasbro expended some cost to paint these accessories. After all, because it is a bulky accessory, most fans display their clone troopers without it. For us, the antenna is an accessory that we feel never worked too well on any clone trooper released. And the time and attention they gave the antenna would have been much better spent on some dirt or battle-damage on the clone itself because he is in need of something else more important. The gun is painted in a similar way. It's been an unfortunate move forward to remove all dirt and battle-damage from the military characters. This new approach is not a good thing. Again, unless a clone trooper is coming directly off of the assembly line, his armor should show some of the effects and damages of war. A clean clone is aesthetically displeasing and unrealistic. And because it is so easy to dirty the clone troopers, we don't know why this is being omitted, even if it is a cost issue. Moving along, Hasbro ensured further attention to detail. They also made sure to paint the entire surface area of the calves and shins in gray, unlike the Battle Packs version where the backs of the legs were left white. This was a rather glaring error on the old figure, and it is much appreciated that Hasbro got it right here. We feel that the underrated Coruscant Landing Platform Clone Trooper has finally received its due credit and while it may not be a 'definitive' version of the figure due to its rather bland paint job, it sure comes close.

The bonus here is that we have a Coruscant Landing Clone Trooper in perfect scale with the other clone troopers made from the same tooling. This figure was released as part of an inserted "surprise" (but honestly expected) “Repacks & Repaints” wave 3 that Hasbro seems to be including annually into the basic figure lines each year. And if Hasbro keeps including great choices and clever ways to repaint or repack existing action figures to get “new” figures out to us, then these rehash waves are certainly more than welcome to us. In fact, we would prefer to have an annual repack/repaint wave. It adds variety to the basic line and affords us an opportunity to get figures we may not receive otherwise in the basic line. It is cost-effective and collector-welcomed at the same time. Getting "new" characters out to collectors using existing molds with almost no new-tooling needed at all is something that Hasbro needs to do to ensure they have the proper tooling budgets in place for all-new figures. Getting a cool character like the “gray” clone troopers from Revenge Of The Sith excites collectors sometimes even more than an all-new figure. Part of a motley crew group of Star Wars characters, the Coruscant Landing Platform Clone Trooper will accent your collection in a very positive way. The Clone Trooper (Coruscant Landing Platform) is an excellent figure to the line and has perfect timing to bring a new angle to the main line of figures. We are thrilled to have him as part of the basic line and we expect to see him repacked in Saga Legends down the road. You may have not taken the time to ponder this, but The Legacy Collection has also given us a carded Saleucami Trooper as well as a carded Clone Trooper (327th Star Corps). This means that we finally got all of the clone troopers that appeared in Revenge Of The Sith as single-carded basic figures now. And for many obsessive/compulsive collectors, this is a great thing! We of course say that with great affection! After all, that also describes us as well! This one is a must-have for your collection. Don't be left out in the cold without it!
