Maybe there is some precedent set for a Star Wars film getting released in December. Maybe The Force Awakens isn't alone. The Academy Film Archive has revealed a supposedly never-before-seen "Revenge Of The Jedi" teaser yesterday which shows that Episode VI was planned to have a December 1983 release date. Check it out!

Happy 39th Birthday to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (you're over the hill next year)! And also Happy 33rd Birthday to my most favorite Star Wars film of all: Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi!

Happy 14th birthday to Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones! I guess I could say something sarcastic like " you sure look a whole lot better after Episode VII" but I wouldn't say such a thing. In all seriousness, you're responsible for creating our clone obsessions. And we hope Lucasfilm Ltd. finishes off that awesome "generator sequence" one day and re-releases it as a special edition or something.
StarWars.com has teased a new Star Wars Show trailer. More to come!

Sources for Variety have confirmed that reported frontrunner Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) has been cast as Disney's new Han Solo. Yes, this is really happening. Ehrenreich will star in the Han Solo standalone film set before the events of A New Hope. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing and the still untitled film is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018. Lord and Miller are known for taking the worst ideas and turning them into something enjoyable, but this seems like an impossible task even for them. The idea of a young Han Solo movie has felt misguided since its inception to me. Maybe Lord, Miller, and Ehrenreich will prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath. What do you think? Comment and let us know!

Speaking to animation director Rob Coleman, Lucas said of “his ultimate framing device” that: “The entire story of Star Wars is actually being recounted to the keeper of the Journal of the Whills—remember that?—a hundred years after the events of Return of the Jedi by none other than R2-D2.” (more....) Extra special thanks to JTA stalker Ayem Mayhem for alerting us to this very interesting article!

O.M.G. Did Entertainment Earth just spill the beans on Rey's last name? SPOILER WARNING! Click the image below to see what her name just might be! (As if you didn't know already!) Out of respect to others, do NOT discuss the name in the comments! But those who don't want spoilers should just stay away! Special thanks to JTA reader Barry J. for the detective work!
UPDATE: Pablo Hidalgo has "confirmed" via Twitter that Entertainment Earth's listing is NOT correct. It was fun speculating! EE has some updating to do on that case assortment listing now!

Now that we've had our first look at Rogue One and a front runner has apparently emerged in the search for a young Han Solo, the standalone Star Wars films are beginning to take shape. Rogue One looks promising but I'm still dreading the young Han Solo movie despite its strong creative team (Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Lawrence and Jon Kasdan). I just think a young Han Solo movie is a fundamentally misguided idea. Hopefully Lord, Miller, and the Kasdans can prove me wrong. Right now Rogue One and the young Han Solo movie are the only confirmed standalone films, but what kind of stories do you want to see? The long-rumored Boba Fett movie? A Porkins origin story? A movie explaining how Admiral Ackbar knew it was a trap? Personally, my vote is for an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie starring Ewan McGregor. Obi-Wan is one of the most popular Star Wars characters, Ewan is willing to come back, and you have the entire time period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope to tell a story. Why hasn't this happened yet?
Deadline is reporting that Hail, Caesar! actor Alden Ehrenreich has emerged as the front runner in Disney's search for a young Han Solo. Apparently Ehrenreich pulled ahead of other actors who were up for the role after an impressive performance in a recent screen test. The still untitled film is scheduled to be released on May 25th, 2018. Check out the full story on Deadline.com.

Our friends at Yakface.com have received some preliminary information about the TARGET promotion happening surrounding the release of The Force Awakens on Blu-ray April 5th. Click through for all the details. We have also heard rumblings (but sadly have no proof) that 18 NEW FIGURES will be released that day. But please take that with a grain of salt until it is confirmed. It could just be some of the new figures already out now. Also, many stores have already put out the dedicated product kick displays sans The Force Awakens media (just the related products and toys). Check your local ads for TARGET coupons which include $10 off star wars merchandise totaling $50 or $25 off star wars merchandise totaling $100. Let us know what you find too!

Sabine Wren will have a much bigger role in Star Wars: Rebels season 3. That's what io9.com is reporting! This will be wonderful, as long as they're able to diminish her use of modern American vernacular like "Seriously?", "For reals!" and whatever other expressions make me cringe my neck. (I am partially exaggerating, so don't take the criticisms all too seriously. Seriously!) Here is to Sabine Wren getting some decent and honorable screen time!

Dave Filoni likes to think so. Speaking at the premiere screening of the Star Wars Rebels season two finale, Filoni stated his belief that Captain Rex was present during the Battle of Endor. Filoni said,"I really do think that Rex is that guy on Endor." The character that Filoni is referring to is Nik Sant, the old, bearded rebel soldier who was a part of the Endor strike team led by Han Solo in Return of the Jedi. SlashFilm has the full story. So what do you think?

Don't forget that the season two finale of Star Wars Rebels airs tonight at 9:00 pm on Disney XD. The hourlong finale entitled "Twilight of the Apprentice" will feature the long awaited reunion between Darth Vader and Ashoka Tano! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has narrowed down their search for a young Han Solo to a handful of actors. The shortlist is said to include Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Alden Ehreneich (Hail, Caesar!), and Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction). Disney has reportedly met with over 2,500 actors but it appears they are now in the final stages of casting.

Earlier today, Disney announced that Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will make a fifth Indiana Jones film. The latest entry in the iconic franchise will be released July 19th, 2019. There has been no word if George Lucas will have any involvement, although it seems unlikely at this point. Just keep Shia LaBeouf away from this movie at all costs. I don't know about you, but I'll be there opening day for this one! Check out Variety for the story!
Aren't we done with Vampires yet? Gossip site TMZ.com claims to have the first images from the Croatian set of Star Wars Episode VIII. But it looks like we're going to see a Vampire dinner party in this one (or something similar). I don't see "Star Wars" in any of these pictures really. Click through to see them all, but BE FOREWARNED that there are potential spoilers here!

One of the most controversial scenes in The Force Awakens came at the end of the film. SPOILERS FOLLOW. After returning from Starkiller base, Chewbacca walked right past Leia and Leia hugged Rey instead. There was no moment between Leia and Chewbacca following the death of Han Solo. In an interview with Slash Film, Abrams admitted "That was probably one of the mistakes I made." Abrams went on to explain the rationale behind Leia hugging Rey instead of Chewbacca and conceded that it felt almost like a slight, "which was definitely not the intention." Check out the full interview.
On Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger provided an update on the upcoming Han Solo standalone film. Iger confirmed that the Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed film is an "origin story about Han Solo and Chewy." Although widely assumed, this our first conformation that Chewbacca will play a major role in the movie. So there you have it. We'll be getting a Han Solo and Chewbacca origin story in 2018 (which still sounds like a terrible idea). Get the full story after the jump!
