Star Wars: The Force Awakens will reportedly pass the $900 million mark at the domestic box office and the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box office this weekend. The Force Awakens will become just the third film to pass $2 billion in sales. Two James Cameron directed films, Avatar and Titanic, are the only other films to reach that milestone. Although The Force Awakens is running roughly $140 million ahead of Avatar at the domestic box office, it will be virtually impossible to pass Avatar's $2.7 billion global haul (and likely take a re-release to come close). Variety has the full story.

Variety is reporting that Ride Along 2 has knocked The Force Awakens out of first place at the weekend box office. After ruling the box office for a month, The Force Awakens slipped into third place. Leonardo DiCaprio's The Revenant also snuck ahead of The Force Awakens. Despite falling out of first place, The Force Awakens will finish with an estimated $32 million for the weekend which will push the film past the $850 million mark at the domestic box office. Final adjustments will be available Monday.

JJ Abrams responds to the criticism that The Force Awakens is a rehash of A New Hope and he admits it was in so many words. He also offers additional insight on why it's more than just a rehash. In the comments, do not nastily challenge every perspective that differs from yours and don't tell others they're wrong for having a different opinion. Keep it friendly. Agree to disagree and if an exchange gets out of hand it will be deleted. Flickering Myth has the full story.

Here's a set many people have been waiting for: Star Wars - The Ultimate Vinyl Collection. This cool box set is officially released tomorrow. You can check out the details (and pick this up if need be) on Amazon.
This comes as no surprise... Star Wars: The Force Awakens will officially be the highest grossing movie in the U.S. by the end of today, overtaking Avatar in just 20 days (It took Avatar 7 months to reach this mark!). With just 2 million to go it's a safe bet that record falls today. It's great to be back on top! Get more stats over at The Hollywood Reporter!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens quietly moved into second place all-time for its domestic gross yesterday, clocking in at $686 million... just 74 million behind number one Avatar. TFA should easily surpass Avatar by the end of next weekend, putting a Star Wars movie back at the top where it belongs! Worldwide TFA is currently seventh all time ($1.4 billion), with quite a ways to go to claim that top spot (Avatar holds that with $2.7 billion). TFA should see a big international boost when it releases in China's huge market on January 9th.

/Film.com has an AMAZING article on 20 deleted scenes from The Force Awakens (with images). Did you know that there was supposed to be a flashback scene with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker on Bespin (from a different angle no less) in the film? This is why we received both action figures in The Force Awakens toy line! This and much more awaits you! Check out the article! Many of these scenes would have absolutely enhanced the current cut of the film.

The Force Awakens is making headlines across the globe. Here at JTA is no exception! Between our three discussion articles so far we've amassed over 1500 comments! My family and I had the pleasure of attending The Force Awakens at a private showing rented out by the Kentucky Star Wars Collector's Club (KSWCC) this past Thursday, organized by long-time friend here in Lexington (and KSWCC member/former president) Kevin Lentz. After letting it soak in for a few days, Kevin posted his thoughts of Facebook today. What he wrote mirrored my feelings as well and I thought it would be a great addition (and opposing perspective) to our other reviews we've had on the site. Kevin agreed to let me post it here as another point-of-view for our viewers to read. Enjoy... and thanks Kevin for sharing!
It's official! The Force Awakens has shattered box office records (as if we had any doubts). With over $500 million in the opening weekend, it shows no signs of stopping. The New York Times has the full story!

To answer my question from last week, the streak of great episodes ends at two. Click through for the full review of Star Wars Rebels: Legacy.
This was the winter finale of Star Wars Rebels, so there won’t be any Rebels reviews until the show returns in January. However, during the break I will be posting reviews of Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes. Beginning with the episode “Cat and Mouse,” I will be reviewing Star Wars: The Clone Wars in Star Wars chronological order. When Rebels is off, expect reviews of The Clone Wars. I’ve been having fun revisiting this great series and I hope you will too. Oh, and I hear there’s a new Star Wars movie coming out soon.

These new movies won’t just be sequels. That’s not the way the transnational entertainment business works anymore. Forget finite sequences; now it’s about infinite series. (more....)
