How can a figure with 14 points of articulation be so bad? We actually say that somewhat affectionately about The Original Trilogy Collection's Luke Skywalker [as Jedi Knight] figure. The packaging is great, and the likeness isn't terrible, but the articulation is seemingly pointless. See what we mean in our Research Droids Reviews today. How frustrating is it that the R5-D4 action figure from 1979 is technically more accurate than the modern ones? (Well, that depends upon your own point of view.) There is no universal agreement as to whom the Snaggletooth action figure is meant to represent. Is this Takeel? Is this Zutton? Is this Rachalt Hyst? Some even believe Snaggletooth is an amalgamation of all three! Kenner used a picture of Rachalt Hyst on the packaging, but it goes without saying that the intent of all vintage Kenner figures was to mirror them from the films and not The Star Wars Holiday Special. So it's very likely that Snaggletooth just suffered the same costume, accuracy and aesthetics issues as Hammerhead and Walrus Man did, etc. Still, some collectors feel otherwise. What do you think? Gentle Giant Ltd. surprised us all when they announced they had plans to reproduce a replica of the Cantina Adventure Set for the Jumbo Vintage Figures line. It's not an exact replica, but it's pretty darn close. See it from every angle and with all four Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures for which it was designed. (For the record, this playset came without any figures.) Stay closely engaged with us as we continue to visit some recently released collectibles in this line in our Research Droids Reviews. He has been called everything from "Butt Face" to "Ponda Baba" but you probably know him best as Walrus Man. No matter what you deem his name to be, he may be the most inaccurate Kenner action figure from the entire 1978-1985 run (save for the characters with the obvious name change errors). Gentle Giant Ltd. was sure to bring all of his inaccuracies forward to the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line and he looks fantastic. It's our opinion that one of the biggest omissions to The Vintage Collection was Momaw Nadon. But have no fear because Gentle Giant Ltd. has released a one-sixth scaled version of Hammerhead and placed him in "vintage styled" packaging. It's not easy being Greedo, a character we love to hate and one of the first bounty hunters we ever saw. The vintage Kenner action figure of him wasn't 100% accurate, but we didn't care in 1979 and we don't care today. Thankfully Gentle Giant Ltd. doesn't care either and happily added him to the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line! It appears that Gentle Giant Ltd. tried very hard to give collectors the most accurate version of Yoda, The Jedi Master in one-sixth scale. For those of you who don't know, this was the new name Yoda got when he was placed on a Return Of The Jedi card back. But his figure also went through a drastic metamorphosis, not just the card back. Sadly Gentle Giant missed a couple of important details. Stay closely with us as we visit some recently released Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures in our Research Droids Reviews. The VOTC Boba Fett is another fine figure that has aged very little in almost a decade from its original release. The views expressed here about the VOTC Stormtrooper are solely those of the author, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Jedi Temple Archives. The VOTC Stormtrooper is one of the most overrated figures of all time. Why so many collectors fell for it escapes us. Utterly useless below the waist, a Stormtrooper action figure MUST have ball-jointed hips to be useful. We continue our analysis on this annoying figure as we revisit the first 12 of nearly two dozen action figures that served as forefathers to the incredible The Vintage Collection. The VOTC Chewbacca is pretty much amazing. Allthough based on his appearance from Episode VI, it was the first time Hasbro nailed his likeness and scale, and collectors finally realized just how big he actually is. The "Vintage" Original Trilogy Collection Yoda action figure was an admirable attempt to mirror it after the figure from the eighties, but not all went right with it. The Lando Calrissian The "Vintage" Original Trilogy Collection figure is underappreciated. OK, so it has swivel elbows, but the figure's lower body movement is incredible and can attain more impressive poses that many other super-articulated figures, even those with ball-jointed hips. See why you need to overlook the swivel articulation and appreciate this figure for what it brings to the table. OK, so maybe See-Threepio (C-3PO) isn't the greatest action figure ever made. That doesn't mean we understand why he gets a ton of unnecessary flack. An admirable effort, this version of the protocol droid looks incredible as far as deco is concerned, but so many collectors are unwilling to accept that because he doesn't come with 14 points of articulation. May the fourth be with you! Is there a more perfect figure to celebrate Star Wars Day than Luke Skywalker as he appeared in the very first Star Wars film? The most super-articulated version of Luke Skywalker up to that point, Hasbro indeed attempted to make this the consummate Luke Skywalker action figure, but it has one or two issues that need tweaking. Join us in revisiting the first 12 of nearly two dozen action figures that served as forefathers to the incredible The Vintage Collection.
