Research Droids Reviews: October 19, 2011 – October 25, 2011

Capture Of The Droids - TCW [SOTDS] - Battle Packs
No new ground was broken for the Capture Of The Droids Battle Packs set. The new format axes another figure from the original five figure multipack, but with the reduction of another 3.75” figure comes a reduction in price which bring the price per figure a very palatable cost to collectors. C-3PO is the only figure that contains any differences from its previous release, and R2-D2 and Cad Bane (with Todo 360) are straight repacks.... (read the full review)

Luke Skywalker’s Tauntaun - TVC - Exclusive
Despite the many frustrating things like poor distribution and lack of many Original Trilogy toy concepts that we have experienced during the duration of The Vintage Collection, we really have to step up to the plate and give credit where credit is due.... (read the full review)

Landspeeder Vehicle - TVC - Exclusive
During the silver anniversary of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Hasbro decided to update the Landspeeder from scratch and made a very impressive vehicle and figure set for collectors to enjoy in the form of a Toys R Us exclusive. Packed in a very nice window box during 2002’s Star Wars “Saga” line, the Landspeeder brought a new level of authenticity to collectors that just didn’t exist beforehand.... (read the full review)

Search For Luke Skywalker, The - SW [SOTDS] - Exclusive
Every now and again Hasbro just doesn’t realize what choices they present to collectors at retail. Just moments after they released the Landspeeder Vehicle and Luke Skywalker’s Tauntaun singly in The Vintage Collection packaging for $24.99 each, they released the awesome The Search For Luke Skywalker multipack in the “Shadow Of The Dark Side” packaging which contains not just Han Solo’s Tauntaun, but also Han Solo and Rebel Trooper action figures as well! Obi-Wan Kenobi/ARC Trooper Commander - TAC - Order 66 (Series 2) (1 of 6)
When it came time to release Order 66 (Series 2) exactly a year to the day after the first set of six in 2007, Hasbro chose to take new liberties with what the concept of Order 66 actually was. (Actually, they just ignored the Order 66 concept....) (read the full review)

Anakin Skywalker/ARC Trooper - TAC - Order 66 (Series 2) (2 of 6)
One of the better sets in the Order 66 (Series 2) TARGET exclusives is the Anakin Skywalker/ARC Trooper two-pack. Just the Obi-Wan Kenobi/ARC Trooper Commander (1 of 6) set, this one is also based on the characters seen in Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars micro-series, but in realistic style of course.... Tsui Choi/BARC Trooper - TAC - Order 66 (Series 2) (3 of 6)
We pretty much expected that after the first six Order 66 TARGET exclusive sets that if future ones came that we wouldn’t get anything more than kit-bashed or repainted figures. But with the Order 66 (Series 2) sets, we did get an all-new figure which collectors were extremely eager to secure for their collections. That all-new figure is Tsui Choi and he comes paired with a very interesting BARC Trooper.... (read the full review)
