On Friday Big Shiny Robot reported that Clone Wars veteran Justin Ridge will replace Filoni as the supervising director on Star Wars Rebels. Don't panic though, Filoni isn't going anywhere. Click through for the full scoop

A Lucasfilm spokesperson provided the following statement to Big Shiny Robot:

"Dave is still just as involved as ever - overseeing all aspects of Star Wars Rebels production as Executive Producer and occasionally directing episodes.  In many ways, mentoring Justin and moving him into the role as Supervising Director has made it possible for Dave to be even more immersed in the writing and story structure of the show as well as creatively overseeing future animation development. Justin started with Lucasfilm Animation on the first season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and worked with Dave before that on Avatar: The Last Airbender, so they've been working together for quite some time."

Well that's encouraging. Losing Filoni could've been disastrous for Rebels. In my opinion, Filoni understands Star Wars and how to tell Star Wars stories better than pretty much anyone not named George Lucas. While I'm glad Filoni is still overseeing Rebels, the more interesting news is that he will be "creatively overseeing future animation development." Could he be prepping the next animated Star Wars series? If so, what era or subject matter would you like to see Filoni and company tackle next? Let us know in the comments below!
